Just a quick note to mark my place. Still feeling under-the-weather. Gained a pound because I'm only eating saltines and graham crackers. Best to all. Mary in south Florida

Well, came down with a mild flu which feels like it may turn into a head cold, too. I can only eat saltines and graham crackers. On the bright side, my schedule is cleared and I'm enjoying some movies on TV. Renny - My cholesterol went up like that once, too, but then the next test showed a 50 point drop, so it may just be…

Congratulations on the rain!!! Hey - I did pick up The Storied Life of ... and it's lurking around here somewhere. So, let's go for it. I'm over 1/2 way done with Pale Blue Eye now. How are you, Lenore?

Got my 40 minute walk among the mangroves accomplished this morning. Yesterday I made some pumpkin bread and realized that 100 calories was equal to 1/20th of the loaf  so I will be freezing some of it. I might have to bring in the cat to the vet because her eyes are runny and she has puss in one of them (sorry for…

It's raining this morning so I'm not sure I'll get my walk this morning. I used to walk in the rain, but when I moved to Florida, people told me it's not safe because of all the lightning here. Robin - Thanks for the onion soup instruction. I'm sorry you haven't been sleeping well. DeeDee - I'm chuckling about the story…

Good Morning! The ankle is better today so I'll be taking my walk among the mangroves this morning, although I'm getting a late start. My plan is to go to the gym this afternoon to lift some weights. I also need to get some paperwork finished that I volunteered to complete for my former employer. The cooking class was so…

You've told me just enough to whet my appetite. I'll be looking for that book. Yeah, Ben is a bit of a lightweight. I'm going to a cooking class this afternoon - something my daughter-in-law arranged for us. Two glasses of wine apiece. Egad - I'll need a ride home. Still working on Pale Blue Eye, but skipping some of the…

Good morning! I'm going to a cooking class this afternoon. My daughter-in-law set this up for us. She just joined our family in May so we are having fun establishing a friendship. I have no idea what we will be cooking. The restaurant has a spanish name. But we each get 2 glasses of wine! I think my son will have to gather…

yanniejannie - thanks for the parmesan/olive suggestion; I think its a great idea to have some go-to food substitutions. I tried the acupressure technique to quell cravings (pressure point is located in front of ears) but all it did was make my jaw hurt LOL! I've started taking an evening course about the plants and…

Jackie hit the nail on the head - I want more of the flavors. I think that's why I backslide, too; after a long day of making tough decisions and dealing with all of those aches and pains (I need both of my knees replaced), I just want a burst of something delicious. That burst of something delicious used to be dancing or…

I'm with you about keeping the group together; it keeps me connected with MFP even when I'm not psyched up to eat healthy (gasp). You are tempting me with the Spencer-Fleming series! I must get caught up. Unbroken sounds really intense. I wonder if you ever read Gone Girl, and if so, how was it? My son and I are going to…

I have a confession to make: I'm skipping this month's book. I've started a time-consuming class about Florida plants and animals, and I have this on-going health problem that's really stressing me out that I need surgery for. I'm just going to do some easy reading and jump in during the next round, whether that be…

It's another sunny day in south Florida! Got in a nice 40 minute walk among the mangroves. Starting a natural history class tonight and I am looking forward to learning more about Florida's plants and animals. Before my knees gave out, I had a fantastic job monitoring frogs, salamanders and birds. Best job everr!…

Love the pictures you all have been posting! :D Taking baby steps today, but did get in a good 30 minute walk to the post box to mail some bills. Bought a few more Halloween decorations at Big Lots today - really like that store. Have a great afternoon and evening, everyone!

Just stopping in to say hi to everyone. Already way too frustrated by the new system to make a longer post.
-
This new system they have instituted makes it way too hard to post anything. I am now on a "spam" watch and locked out for 2 minutes because I tried to post the October book discussion twice within 60 seconds. What will happen if I try it again? A free trip to Guantanamo?

It's finally about bed time, thank goodness. This decision about what type of medical treatment to get is too difficult. Ever since I told the doctor's office last week that I was getting a 2nd opinion, they've been hounding me for a decision. Well I had my second opinion this afternoon and it was different. That darn 1st…

Happy Monday, MN Margaret - would love to read that book. Yanniejannie - I would love to have some of that brisk weather down in south florida char316 - as one who stayed too long at my last job, I encourage you to change your career/job; it's so much less stressful Moeggep - I love water aerobics too and must find a place…

I'm Mary, currently from south Florida. I'm posting for the first time. I've decided to engage with weightloss and fitness as if it were my job. I'm currently not working because of knee injuries. I have a decision to make this week about whether to have an operation my gyn wants to do. Goals are: Make my health decisions…

I haven't read One was a soldier yet. If I get that now, I'll never get to our Oct/Nov read! I've decided not to get the Florida dl because I'm going to remain a California resident for now. I'll find the book some other way. How is everyone? I can't believe it's nearly Halloween already. I really miss the snap in the air…

I found it at the library; although that is a score, it comes with a catch. I can't get a library card until I get a Florida driver's license. I'll find a way, but like Mady, I might not start right away.
-
Oh, I was hoping to get it at the library because it's an expensive used book. I'm going to see what the library has to offer and get back to everyone.
-
That's a big book - I'm game. Let's make it our September/October book, if Mady hasn't read it already.
-
We're caught up with Russ and Claire now. There's some kind of bonus if you preorder the Soldier book - she will send you a signed manuscript page, if you mail her the receipt, according to her website. I have enough paper for 1 person so I didn't bite.

Are you a farmer at heart, L?

Good morning diamond gals, I can't believe I survived that wedding! I've been in a post-trip coma for a week. Can't say I'm actually emerging from it yet, but I'm working on it. Loved that Kingsolver book and I'm looking forward to L's pick for October. I'm trying to read The Pale Blue Eye but will gladly put it down for a…

You could try detaching your goals about relationships from your fitness goals. What I mean is, compete against yourself by getting a fitness test at a gym, for instance, and work to improve your stats for endurance and perceived effort. Sign up to compete in a race and focus on getting ready for that. Eat wholesome foods…

It is problematic. I believe many people don't complain when the noise is bad because they don't want to make the problem worse; as in, you never know who is going to open that door when you knock on it - are they going to retaliate in some way? I wouldn't just assume that everything is OK just because no one complains -…
-
Nice to see you again, Lenore. The Kingsolver book is for September. Happy reading!

I heard about the quake. My daughter's friends apartment in Napa was destroyed because the plaster came off the walls. She is going to stay with my daughter, which leaves me homeless for now. But I'm going anyway. Something will work out. It makes it exciting.
