Join us at the Atkins Support Group. Go to the Groups tab to do that. How much artificial sweeteners are you using, diet soda, and Atkins bars? If you use more than the equivalent of 3 packs a day, it can cause carb cravings. 8 ounces of diet soda is the equivalent of one pack. Diabetics are now being advised to not use…

No bananas on a low carb or low GI diet! Low carb, 100 grams a day or less has been found to help PCOS and many other conditions. As long as you don't feed sugar cravings, they will go away and not come back.

You need to do resistance training, not cardio, to tone. So no it won't.

Since he sees you every day, he may not really notice how much you have lost because it has been a subtle change for him.

I don't count anything that doesn't raise my heart rate for a prolonged time as exercise. That is the definition of exercise.

There is no way you could eat - you said binge - on fruits and vegetables and not go over your calorie limit. The WW plan formula is based on 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and just because they have 0 points doesn't mean they have 0 calories.

If you have only maintained on 1200 calories for years, why do you think you can add more? You've probably slowed your metabolism with years of not eating enough.

If you don't eat enough protein and do weights while losing, you lose a lot of LBM. Cardio just doesn't do the job.

The salads didn't sell enough so its only a good business decision to drop them. People talk all the time about wanting healthy choices at fast food places but when they are offered, they don't buy them.

There's weight and calories in that liquid you drained. You should have weighed it with the liquid and then rinsed them after weighing.

The body has absolutely no requirement for carbs to stay alive. It requires protein and fat and without adequate amounts of them you will die. When you cut back on carbs (which are converted to glycogen for energy), the body burns fat after converting it to glycogen. The reason most people regain after a low carb diet is…

You can add me. I'll be the group grandma (I'm 72) but I'm doing good with low carb. Ask away if you have questions. Maryllama, you can go to www.atkins.com and click on the Learn Atkins tab and get all the info you need to get started.

Having surgery is not cheating. It is a tool for weight loss. They not only have the after effects of the surgery to deal with, but a very strict diet. You should never compare yourself to anyone else, not even if they were they same weight, height, age and sex when you started. Every body is different and will loose at…

I'm a daily weigher but I only compare today's weight with that of the same day last week. Then I get a better picture of what's going on. The National Weight Loss Registery says 83% of those who have kept the weight off for at least 5 years are daily weighers.

I'm in Virginia so not the deep south but I find I can get flavorful low carb meals anywhere I choose to eat. My husband was a chef at a 5-star restaurant and one thing I learned from him is if you don't see it the way you want it on the menu, ask. They will usually accommodate you. If we go to an Italian restaurant, I get…

It's a fact of life that men lose weight faster than women because they have more muscle on their bodies. A pound a week is within the healthy weight loss range. Your expectations are way off. If you aren't heavy lifting, you could add that to preserve lean body mass and lose more fat. A low carb diet has amazing results…

Fear of hunger is not a reason to keep eating all day. It's okay and even good to experience hunger. You aren't going to faint or get weak unless you don't eat for several days. Choose one day and go without lunch. See how you feel, what happens. Thin people experience hunger and put it on the back burner.

90 calories of sugar is robbing your body of 90 calories of good food nutrition.

Your obesity has an affect on my life because my insurance rates will be higher because you will require more medical care. People are starving and you are stuffing yourself. You are taking up more resources than necessary. A fat person doesn't appear to value themselves or they would take care of their body. I was one of…

Would you tell an alcoholic to have a day off? It's just the same with us where food is our drug of choice. You don't take days off because it undos what you have done and could set you on another road where you gain even more. Instead you plan a reasonable diet where you can eat out occasionally and maybe have a treat…

If you don't do weights, you can look fabulous but still be fat inside. You need to burn fat and not muscle while losing weight and cardio can't do it.
-
If you are losing 1-2 pounds a day and only have 15 pounds to go, you are losing more muscle than fat and that is dangerous. If you are really under a doc's supervision, he must have graduated at the bottom of his class.

Weight loss is 80% calorie counting and what you eat and 20% exercise. Weight lifting is important because it builds muscle and muscle burns more calories than fat.

You can get one for around $10 at Walmart. After the age of 40, our metabolism slows and we need to eat 100 calories per day less for every decade than when we were in our 20s and 30s - for example, if we ate 2000 calories then,. in our 40s we need no more than 1900, 1800 in our 50s, etc. Or we can exercise more. Portion…

I see a cheat meal in the same light as telling an alcoholic he can drink on the weekend if he abstains all week. All they do is set back progress.

Your body does not see every calorie as equal. It needs adequate nutrition so it is important to eat a healthy diet. Fast Food should seldom be eaten if you want to be healthy.
-
Your body counts every calorie even if you don't. No juice is acceptable - eat the whole fruit. It fills you up more and has fiber.

The ADA has reversed its opinion of low carb diets and now finds them helpful for diabetics and pre-diabetics.

You couldn't eat 1200 calories of bread and lose weight. If you kept it up very long you'd be dead. The body has no requirement for even 1 carb but requires protein and fat for life. What you eat is just as important as how much.
