  • My Food Diary? Don't you mean My Fitness Pal? I checked into MFD (as opposed to MFP) it looks a bit souped up...but it costs $9 per month. Thanks to Mike this one is free...and the people here are awesome and help each other out...best boards I have seen anywhere. Welcome!
  • Weight loss banners (tickers) are under tools.
  • This story originated from Susan Leonard, the wife of Mark Leonard - AKA the Mayfair Mall Santa. There is a book on Amazon..."Christmas Miracles" and Susan actually submitted a feedback customer review: Rediscover the mystery & hope of Christmas! Great book!, September 17, 2008 By Susan Leonard (Atlanta, GA) - See all my…
  • An easy way to put together your sandwich components here is to pick meal...with nothing else added yet. Then add Tuna, then Mayo, then relish, and your bread...once all entered...then save it as a meal called Tuna Sandwich. If you do it that way, you have the nutrient calculations done here for you and you can simply…
  • I always take a shower...I get ready for about 5-10 minutes, workout for 30ish, then 10-15 minutes to shower/dress...of course I don't have to blow dry my hair or anything either. I have to shower to even feel comfortable going back to work.
  • I usually just count water and flavored water - but I think there is often times some confusion about "water". If you read many articles it's not always about "water" - but fluids, so things like soup, juice, water, teas - even fruits and vegetables. Water happens to be a calorie free way to get the fluids you need (and oh…
  • It may not seem like a lot...and sort of a crash diet..but that's also based on their weight going in...if they lose a lot of weight...then the meal plan is more in line with a lower weight. I watch a lot of the "where are they now" segments on the show...and most have all continued to lose weight even after leaving the…

  • Laird...you got it. Most of the time as you consume more water your body no longer needs to "hoard" it to nourish itself...as it now get's water regularly when it needs it. As such your body starts to flush out the reserves it holds onto. By the way, this is also something that is done for people with hypertension…
  • Couple of things 1) eat a lower calorie breakfast that day 2) try to eat early mid-afternoon - so you don't have to eat lunch and maybe not dinner 3) focus on salads if you have them, and vegetables, and of course white meat turkey 4) try a little bit of potato/stuffing/yams...but only a little to enjoy 5) If you are…
  • I am tracking sodium...and I am trying to stay below 2,000...but can't. Most "low fat, low calorie" lunch foods (soups, healthy choice meals, etc) all have a fair amount of salt - i think it's to make otherwise bland low cal food taste better to consumers. Unfortunately, I blow through that everyday...so i am trying to eat…
  • It's before - just like a quarter pounder burger is 1/4 before it's cooked. I have heard about that card size piece as well.
  • Being Catholic - now that was funny!
  • I think PeeJ has a good point - and you shouldn't always think about it as getting to your healthy weight - which it is...but it's about de-stressing. When I am on a treadmill, with radio in my ears and watching something funny on the tv monitors, I zone out about everything - including the fact that I am exercising. It…
  • Here's a great website to go to for this (I wouldn't stick with them to track calories as MFP is by far the best...but this is a great tool!) http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php?process=resubmit&count=2 The recipe you just gave - put it in there...and how many servings...and it will calculate the nutrition…

  • If you really took an egg, and only used the egg white - that may be about right. Usually, however, if you use carton egg whites, they are usually anywhere from 3 tablespoons or 1/4 cup for a serving...so they basically give you the amount as if you had a whole egg...is about 25-30 calories...so if you took just the egg…
  • Welcome welcome welcome - feel free to ask questions, seek advice, find buddies....you have come to the right place to get more fit!

  • Tom - I went to the website The Foundation for Better Healthcare where they have a calculator for energy consumption - and put in the same exercise...but different body weights Someone 200-219, walking briskly for 15 minutes would expend 80 calories, 30 minutes 160 Someone 180-199, walking briskly for 15 minutes would…
  • Oh yeah...and the lighter you become as MFP helps you out - the lower your calories burned becomes. At a higher weight, you burn more calories at the same heartrate as you do when you are lighter - I found out I had to update my HRM profile as my weight came off - there was a definite difference in the calculations when i…
  • Robin, First of all the HR that you mentioned is much higher than mine ever is...usually my low is a bit lower than that, my high is in the 160s, and my average is in the 140's - and at 35 minutes I burn about 450 calories. So the fact that your average is that much higher your calories burned would be higher. I think the…
  • So you get the free meal - and they don't pick from your list of 10 possible choices? Sounds to me they weren't serious all along...and they weren't fair about buying you lunch...you should have had a say in were you were going. Like the others though, I am not sure I would have necessarily backed out - I too have been to…
  • Alicia - you have to get the progresso light soups...I have a microwable one in front of me now (and they are also loaded into MFP). It says 60 calories per serving, about two servings, and it says on the front side 100 calorie per package. Right above the nutrition label it says: This entire package contains about 2…
  • I usually do a microwave light soup (progresso or Healthy Select) - which are only 100 per container (almost two cups of soup)...then a Healthy Choice Meal (usually select 240-290 calories) - they come with a fruit cobbler dessert - so I get my sweet tooth filled...and all usually 350-400 calories between both and fills me…
  • You should watch Carson Kressley's show on Lifetime...he talks about body image and how to get over it...especially given all the work you have done and the changes you have made. It's all in perception...and he is good at making women understand how to change that perception...it's a pretty good show!
  • That's right - you have enough energy stored in your body fat - which you are trying to lose i would imagine if you are here...so you begin to use your stored energy to meet basic body functions...yeah!!! Having said that, if you go too far below that, or below the threshold, your body will start to slow down your…
  • How long were you on the treadmill? I do 3.5MPH...and to get my heart rate into my various zones...I go from the 11degrees to 13 degrees incline (so less than you) and in 1/2 hour (30 minutes) i am usually around the low 300 cals (300-330). Having said that, my heart rate would usually then be between 133 to 150...if you…
  • Gooch - many times the machines are programmed for average size/weight people...not sure of your HRM, but my Polar RS400 has me put in my vitals...height, weight, age, etc. As such, it is personalized to my body and therefore what my caloric burn is most likely to be. I too would go with your HRM. And Rider is…
  • HRM is Heart Rate Monitor...and is really most effective if you know your Heart Rate Zones to make sure you are exercising in the right zones. I have the Polar RS400 and it has been great in tracking the training efforts on my heart and calories burned. Definitely worth investing in some sort of HRM.
