  • At the risk of being facetious, turn off the TV and concentrate on your workout. 30 mins intensive will do you far more good than 1hr plodding.
  • It should be about health as well as weight. Whilst you will initially lose weight without exercise you will inevitably plateau. Exercise increases your metabolism and help flush out toxins. Exercise does not have to be going to a gym. As others have mentioned, walking, swimming, dancing etc are all forms of exercise.
  • I always take my running kit with me as a lot of hotels don't have gyms and it's a great way to see the local area, I plan a route using Runkeeper and/or Google maps. Food wise I find it ok, you tend to get healthy choices and I adopt the mindset of eating similar things to what I have at home. For instance, as great as…
  • Agree, somtimes less is more and I would bo the weights completely differently. What is important is that it works for you so well done, keep up the good work

  • There's lots of considerarions and as already mentioned getting your gait checked for running is essential. I know you probably dont have money to burn but if you can get a pair for gym work and a pair for running. They will last longer - by "resting" between sessions, overall and it will stop you from having to compromise…
  • I'm maintaining, have been for a few years (dropped form 84kg to 70kg). I used to use another site to log my food but after way too many synching issues a friend told me about MFP. I let myself have bad days just make sure I have good ones either befofe or after. I'm 46 height 176 cm Weight 70kg Body Fat 13% So over all…
  • Ortiginally N Wales now London Use the site mainly for maintenance,
  • Back to the running, as you're in London try parkrun, www.parkrun.org.uk They have 5k runs all over the place and are great to get back into running
  • Does you Uni have a running club? That would be a good place to start as there would be a safety in numbers mentality. As for the comments, whilst you shouldn't have to put up with them treat it as a NSV, try and take the positive out of it .

  • UFC is a great workput a coupkle of my friends do it and absolutely love it. Fruit Ninja is meant to be good too as it is primarily a fun game that makes you get a sweat on
  • I have to be honest I disagree, I think that they're pretty inspirational. Yes they are taken out of "reality" but that is no different to any rehab type program which is exactly what it is. I have seen a few follow up programs and virtually everyone seems to continue to lose weight. I haven't seen the results two -three…
  • Stay away from Naan, and where possible anything with Ghee (butter) Rice should be fine in moderation, I usually go for King Prawns as loweer in calories. If you have Chicken make sure you specify breast meat, some restaurants will give you thigh otherwise. If you have a curry with sauce, take the meat out and just have a…
  • As you are still new to the gym I would recommend a couple of days off a week. It does depend on your workouts though, if you're mixing them up between resistance and cardio your body can recuperate between workouts. Intensity is more important than frequency though so there's no point in going just so you can say you've…
  • I use Runkeeper and think it's excellent. I use it in two ways,: 1) To upload my runs from my Garmin Forerunner 305 and be able to track my activity 2) Times when I wont have my Garmin with me I use my iPhone to track (yes it's less accurate but it's still pretty damn close) If you use the app to track it's not perfect,…
  • It depends on where you go, what you do and for how long. I am off to Kenya next week for a fortnight. I don't think that there's wifi so no logging in for me. Personally I will keep a mental note of what I have on a daily basis but not beat myself up if I go over, I will go for two or three runs, swim (most days) and…

  • I have to be honest I never subtract resting calories. If you did I guess you would divide by 24 as resting calories are literally no activity.
  • Google is everyones friend
  • Check your shoes are the right ones for you and get your gait analysed. They could be brand new but if they're the wrong ones you'll have problems.
  • It depends on your diet. you may be getting enough protein from your every day food. The thing to remember about protein shakes is that they are supplements i.e. they supplememnt your diet and don't replace normal food. If you exercise with with moderate intensity and regular then a good whey protein shake post exercise…
  • You must get your gait checked and then you can look at which running shoe suits best. Anyone who says Nike, Asics, Mizuno etc are best are only talking about what suits them. Go to a proper store, they will video you running on a treadmill for free and then rcommend the right typ of shoe. It will prevent a lot of pain…
  • Peanut butter and jam sandwich - always seems to work well
  • Is there any pain or swelling? I suffer from arthritis and my ankle swells and stiffens, I tend to find lots of self massage, flexions and Ibuprofen works. Probably not the best way to look after myslef but..................
  • If it is working I would stick with the current routine until you pass your test or mobility improves. The gym will still be there in six months (if it isn't you made the right decision) and you'll get an idea of what it's like. You should also ask for a guest pass so you can try it out and get a feel for the place. Most…
  • My quwestion would be is it relevant to weight loss / healthy lifestyle. Whether you're a Republican, Democrat, Labour or Conservative it has nothing to do with what you eat how much you exercise - therefore irrelevant. Paleo, low carb, WW, Atkins etc. do so are relevant
  • essentially a single leg squat with the "resting" leg out in front of you
  • Pistols for Quads - Weighted dips for Chest - Bent over fly's for shoulders (Rear delt is often missed) - Good mornings for Hamstrings
  • Running will generally burn more calories than spinning. That said I think you should do both as it is not just about the calorific burn. Cycling and in particular Spinning ahs been proven to help with running and a varied / balanced workout schedule will produce better results than keeping to one esercise regime.
  • Adidas kanadia for off road Mizuno Wave for road running - won't be buying them again though
