Sure I do, I don't always want to exercise or eat healthy but I know I need to if I'm going to make any changes.

Thanks for the links. I do a somewhat modified 5x5 program to fit my needs. I've had good results with it in the past but I honestly don't remember what my diet was back then. I guess I will try to drop a few lbs while I'm still getting back into shape and then bulk up later.

Do you think it's possible to have a slight reaction to gluten? My wife seems to think her body just can't handle too much of it but it's fine in lower doses.

Ideally I'll use MFP to log food and Fitbit to log exercise. Also check out the Fitbit user group on here. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1290-fitbit-users

Just do whatever works for you. Just keeping a food diary and getting to know how many calories are in certain foods and how many calories you burn a day can be a huge help. I've never had the patience to weigh all of my food but I don't mind eating the same things for breakfast and lunch most days, so I really only needed…

I have a Fitbit Charge HR and I don't find it to be very accurate. The sleep tracker is awful, it has no idea when I'm sleeping versus when I'm awake and lust lying there or watching TV. The heart rate monitor is nice to have occasionally, but it kills the battery and I'm not sure how accurate it is. It's hard to say how…

Why do you consider not lifting from the beginning to be your #1 mistake? Personally, I've done things a couple different ways. I lost probably 25-30 lbs doing mostly cardio and some resistance training but nothing too heavy. After a while I was able to run for miles at a time and the lbs started to melt off easily. I felt…

Seems like I am more prone to injury lately and my metabolism has slowed down so it makes it tougher to lose weight. I can't push myself like I used to, and I have to concentrate more on stretching and proper form than before. And I now care more about waking up without back pain than I do about losing a few lbs or gaining…

Yep, seems like the more I work out the more I just want to eat. I've found coffee works great for keeping my appetite in check at work. Not sure what it is, but as long as I sip on coffee all morning I rarely get hungry.

I don't think it's a fad at all. There are many people with a legitimate gluten intolerance or Celiac disease and others that might have it but aren't even aware of it. If you research signs of gluten intolerance it will list a number of things that are fairly common, so people might assume if they have 1 or 2 of them that…

I just started taking antidepressants a couple months ago and I really don't feel much different. My doctor even increased my dosage after the first month. It may have helped out my cravings for certain things but I really don't feel any happier or less anxious, and my sleeping hasn't gotten much better. The main thing I…

I need some new active friends, hit me up!

Thanks! I actually started to take antidepressants too, which I think were a big help in quitting smoking. Then after I did that it gave me the confidence to make the other changes. It's amazing once you make a conscious effort to make one change it can snowball into other changes. I do enjoy most sports but the only thing…

My fiance gets this, only when it's cold outside. I get something similar, but I get very itchy in my scalp once I start to sweat unless I work out frequently. And it only happens in the colder months when there is very little humidity.

IMO for weight loss you should try to get all of your protein from food. Shakes just don't seem to fill me up as much or for as long as solid food. So it really depends on the rest of your diet. For instance if you are a vegetarian or something and struggle to fulfill your protein needs, but can spare a couple hundred…

It's not that much more difficult. It's probably harder than it was when you were in in your 20's but you can still do it. Well, I'm "only" 38 but I'm starting to like the way my muscles are looking after only a few months.

Other than getting a trainer, I would clearly define what your goals are. Losing 40 lbs is a great start, but you can do that by diet alone. How many days a week do you think you can make it to the gym and for how long each day? Does your gym offer any classes you might be interested in? Do they have any other facilities…

I agree Insanity is great for cardio and core, but it doesn't do a whole lot for your upper body other than push-ups. In my opinion combining it with some strength training a couple days a week is the way to go.
-
My all time favorite for cardio is Bangarang by Skrillex. I'm not even a huge fan of electronic stuff, I just love it for running. For weight lifting any Rage Against the Machine is always good.
-
Why did you start the Insanity program if you were enjoying going to the gym and jogging? Insanity is really just all cardio though and it doesn't have a whole lot of upper body work other than push-ups. The way I see it you have three options: You can follow the Insanity schedule and add some weight lifting at the gym a…

I use Jefit personally, but you could also try Gymprovise.

Currently at the gym 5-6 days a week. 30-60 minutes of cardio, 30-45 minutes of weight training. 1-2 days a week I work out from home with some sort of fitness DVD or yoga. Also one rest day if I'm too busy to work out.
-
It's not that cut and dry. Cardio generally burns more calories minute to minute than lifting, but lifting and HIIT will burn more calories post workout, and lifting will help build muscle which will make you look better and burn more calories by boosting your metabolism (in theory). So most people will say weight training…

Oh come on, I have to push myself just to go to the gym every day, you mean I have to push myself farther once I get there too? But actually, it's legs and core day, which means the more I push myself, the less I will be able to walk tomorrow. But that's never slowed me down before so I don't expect it to today.
-
I usually just walk and do some light yoga, and treat it as a recovery day.
-
Do you mean short on protein but HIGH on calories? If you're short on both then you just eat more. If you're short on protein but high on calories I would ask yourself what's more important, losing lbs or gaining strength. I'd also ask yourself if you can make up for either of those the following day.
-
It's a good program, you get a decent workout in 30 minutes a day. But that's the thing, it's only 30 minutes. Great if you're busy and have limited time, but if you have the time and want to burn more calories you may want something longer on occasion. You can always to the Cold Start video if you have extra time though.…

You're doing upper body exercises every day, so there will be some overlap and working the same muscles too often is counterproductive. I do back/biceps on Day 1, chest/shoulders/triceps on Day 2, legs/core on Day 3, then once a week I'll do a yoga/recovery day. This gets me at least 2 days rest per muscle group, which I…

Yes, this! I'm kicking myself because apparently we have a very nice gym at the hospital right by our house and I locked into a year at another gym without actually checking it out. I just assumed it would be to expensive. I still have no idea how expensive it is, but I'm not really liking my current gym and wish I would…
