3.15?!! OMG. Is that not a little extreme?! What time do you go to bed - 7pm?! As we know, everyone is different and if this works for you then good on you. Its a little too hardcore for me though as I always wake up tired no matter what time I get up! What works for me? Location & climate. Hot & sunny and living by the…

I'm the same about going to the gym. So I tend not to go much or when I do, I dont enjoy it so I go out of necessity. You could try antidepressants as they can help if you have depression. Sometimes, stress can cause depression/low mood or similar symptoms so make sure you can relax as much as possible & resolve any issues…

Thanks.

Thankyou, it makes sense. More things to think about!

Thanks - I'm trying all avenues to find a solution to my lack of motivation. Depression is another avenue that I've already explored. My doctor was not that helpful and despite having anti depressants (last year) & CBT this year, I dont feel much different. Even the doctor said exercise more, you'll feel better! Tried…

Thankyou. Thats all makes good sense & is encouraging me already! I do 5km in 27 mins, by the way! Well, the one time I could stay focussed for that long. Ok, so if I start small & do 20 mins on my gym visits, I reckon eventually I'll stay in there for longer.

Sorry, but equating letters to numbers is meaningless & not exactly scientific! The message: change your attitude - yes, I agree, I'm sure that will work. But still points back to the original issue - how to change an attitude - how to get motivated to change. That clip did not inspire me to run to the gym & do a hard…

I was just wondering what you thought of it, thats all. Whether it inspired you & why you thought it was an inspirational quote montage. Anyway, I'll watch this one & tell you what I think.
-
Just watched it. What does it mean to you? Does it inspire/motivate you?
-
Ok then, I reword my issue : I cannot become motivated. I do want it.....I wouldn't be here if I didnt, but I could use some help getting there. Maybe if we define 'motivation'it might help. To me, motivation is the will/desire to do something. Motivation is not setting and/or reaching goals.

So is it even worth doing 20 minutes of weights twice a week? I seem to have high standards & I thibk a workout is only worth doing if its a proper workout!
-
Blimey. Cant do 36 holes in a day. 18 is enough for me. Thats usually 5 hours of walking & swearing. Yes its exercise, but not what I'd consider a 'workout' or something thats going to give any visible results
-
Thats exactly my point. I'm looking for it (within myself or elsewhere) but I haven't found it yet and I dont know where else to look. My only excuse for not exercising more is that I'm not motivated enough to do so. Which brings me right back to where I started.....how do you find motivation?!
-
Thanks, good to know I'm not the only one who doesnt get addicted to it. Isnt 10 minutes of exercise a waste of time? I've read that you need to do 45 mins of cardio to get any benefits? (not that I can last 45 mins - I get bored after 20). Thats partly my problem, I hate wasting my time on things so if I exercise for no…

I commend you on your weight loss. Truely fantastic. My issue is this: i know & can see the benefits of regular workouts & I'd love to have the motivation to go to the gym every day. I'd love to see some change in my body & inner happiness. I'd love to be fitter for general day to day health. But......you may be right....I…

Me? I'm not dieting at the moment but in the past when I had been aiming to lose weight, I lost 1-2 lbs a week which seems to be about normal. So 7lbs in about 7 weeks for you is good.
-
Nice! Probably wouldn't work for me 'cos the desire of being a sexy MF is not why I drag my *kitten* kicking & screaming to a gym once a week. Although there are plenty of people at the gym who do think they are gods gift!
-
No, perhaps you misunderstood. There are no immediate noticeable effects of me not exercising today - unlike not washing, ironing etc. Of course there are long term effects but I was refering to the immediate visible effects of doing/not doing something. You did indeed supply advice/tips and thankyou for that, but it…

Yes, not much, but I would say beaches, sunny weather, wine and photography - although thats more of a hobby than a passion. I'd be the first to admit that I dont have much of a life, but until I can emigrate to Australia I cant see much changing. I even had Congitive Behavioural Therapy earlier this year for my 'lack of…

Yes but its a strange kind of apathy. I (and the others) want to do lots of exercise, go to the gym, look/feel a bit more healthy etc but lack the motivation to do it. We realise the benefits of exercise but for me anyway, I don't care enough about these benefits to do exercise every day. Personally, I do try hard when I'm…

Ok, I dont understand the competition thing but you make some good points & suggestions. Also, talking at the gym? Surely if you can manage any more than one word per breath you're not doing it hard enough?! I'm not a group activity kind of person which is why I assume the gym is the best option. If I lived by the sea I'd…

Yes, not a bad website that. However, there was an article that says " When you start to exercise, you start to feel better about yourself, you get addicted to the feeling. And then you chase it – exercising more, making better diet decisions, taking better care of your body." I still dont get this 'addicted' feeling. Some…

Compete against yourself?? Thats not much of a competition!
-
Leave it in the can, salt, pepper & squirt of salad cream. Job done & no washing up.
-
Well you have a definite & specific goal so that might help with motivation nearer the time, once you realise there isnt long left to hit your goal. I suspect next year seems so far away and its too soon to be hitting the gym hard? I had read somewhere that setting goals helps with motivation. Well you still need the…

Its good that you have a feeling of acomplishment after a workout. Thats a positive to work on. Doesnt make doing the workout any easier but it might at least help with motivation, if you know you'll feel good at the end of it. I think that would certainly help me, if I felt good or had that 'buzz' that people talk about.…

Thanks for the tips. Nice to know I'm not the only one. I find running too boring but there are a few sports i like which may be 'exercise' but it doesnt seem strenuous enough to be worthwhile in terms of fitness. Its not that i make excuses for not going because usually i make the effort to go but just sit in the car park…
