  • I admit to be currently addicted to the Starbucks Spinach/Feta/Egg wrap... as I've been grabbing it on the go lately. When I make breakfast at home I usually prefer toast and scrambled eggs (1 full egg + .75 cup egg whites) OR oatmeal OR a whole grain cereal with either skim milk or almond milk.
  • Just goes to show that it never hurts to take the initiative to ask for special instructions when ordering food :) Nicely done :flowerforyou:
  • Yes, carbs are so bad for us that they are our bodies first and most desired source for fuel (note that sarcasm  ) Like what has been said... it's the QUALITY of the carbs you eat. If you fill up on empty and nutritionless white carbs, then yes it's going to have a negative effect. But if you fill your carb quota…
  • Well, it makes sense to me since hypertrophy is created by overload. I've done both P90X and the Slim Series. P90X focusing on lower reps with higher weights, and the Slim Series focuses on high reps with lower weights... but both encourage going to failure (or right on the brink)... and, you know, I actually got a little…
  • I was doing that for some months, and then it popped underneath me... now I'm scared to do it again
  • Having a plan is a BIG part of success... congrats on developing a routine that you are enjoying :)
  • Indeed... get a video program. I started with P90... but there's lots of programs out there. Get one that comes with a series of videos as well as a laid out workout calendar that tells you what to do and when. I recommend any of the programs released by Beachbody.com (if you want, check my site and I have previews of a…
  • When you workout do you do push-ups or chin-ups (even modified ones)??? It's all about the principle of specificity... you can't get better at something that you don't do. So, I'd recommend adding these things into your regime. For push-ups... bring 'em down to your knees. When you can knock out 20-30 on your knees then…
  • If your heart rate was actually that close to your max you'd have felt light headed, dizzy, overheated, perhaps been quite red in the face, and you would've been totally out of breathe... so, my "guess" is that the machine was not correct. However, if you notice this as a pattern you'll definitely want to bring it up to a…

  • From my "rant thread" http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/29555-fitness-training-a-rant
  • The problem with consuming too few calories is then where the body will go for it's energy sources. Sure, you may lose weight faster (for some), but you must realize that this weight loss may not mearly come from fat but a loss in muscle mass and bone density. We NEED to eat enough calories so that our bodies don't start…
  • Yoga lovers... where are ya?
  • :flowerforyou: For anyone who may have missed...
  • I TOTALLY disagree with this statement. I find that power yoga makes an even more intense statement. Power Yoga involves an even stronger mind/body connection... because keeping in connection with your body and your breathe while doing flow poses is insane, and I LOVE it! I also find that power yoga has helped me gain…
  • I started with P90 (Power 90) which has both strength and cardio videos... really good for beginners. Slim in 6 is also good for beginners.
  • My personal opinion :) P90X vs. Barry's Boot Camp ---> P90X all the way! 10-Minute Trainer vs. Slim in 6 ---> 10 Minute Trainer b/c of more variety Turbo Jam vs. Tae Bo Boot Camp ---> Turbo Jam (I'm a Turbo Junkie) There is also a new program coming out mid-December called ChaLEAN Extreme! It's Chalene Johnson's extreme…
  • I'd consider pilates more as strength training... however, you'll want to enter it in the cardio section so that the site counts the calorie burn. If you search "mat pilates" in the cardio area it should come up with a base calorie burn.
  • Hey all! I don't believe I've posted here yet! So, 4 years ago I did my first downward dog position... NEVER thought I'd learn to love yoga. 4 years have passed and here I am... I LOVE yoga. In fact, I am now a yoga instructor. I currently teach once per week, a power yoga style, for the most part. I just love the way the…
  • Did you take measurements besides just lbs. on the scale? I mean, depending on where you are starting at it IS possible to gain weight but lose inches and look better all around. What about clothing size... how are your clothes fitting now as compared to then?
  • Can I bump my own thread? :flowerforyou:
  • Thanks for the input! The wheels are turning :) :) :)
  • SG - AWESOME! :flowerforyou:
  • melly - it sounds like you have a pretty good schedule going there. Do you take at least 1 rest day each week, though??? It's always good to take a rest day... or take one day per week to just do flexibility training. Muscles need to be stretched and rested in order for them to fully recover :)
  • Yes, wear fitted clothing that allows for a full range of motion. A mat is needed (so if the gym doesn't provide them, which they should, you'd want one). A towel (particularly if you use a gym mat you will want a towel to put under your face for any prone positions) A positive attitude! :) Pilates is hard at first, but…
  • I just eat the whole seed.
  • And also... It's fine to do cardio if you are super duper sore... eventually you'll find your body adapting more so that soreness won't be as intense. If it's pain, however, then you'd need to back off (and possible see a doctor if you are worried about having done damage to the joint or have a muscle tear, etc.). It…
  • What does your current schedule look like? How often do you lift weights? What exercises do you current do for lifting weights (and how heavy do you lift)???
  • Pilates = Love  It seriously trains the core SO well, and hits it at all angles.
  • And PS... the Lion is a legit Yoga Pose... but I still think it looks silly (though stretching the facial muscles does have it's benefits)
  • Hehehehehehehehehheh.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyxpXgS5deU&feature=related
