Stick with it...it takes 3-4 weeks before you start seeing anything appreciable. Do take your measurements...you will likely see a little decrease in waist measurement before you notice the scale moving.

What did you want to be when you grew up? : I wanted to be in the military and work with airplanes What do you do now? : I am an Air Force officer and Aeronautical Engineer What career would you do if you could do anything right now? I have the career that I want...4 years from military retirement, working on aircraft…

This. When I travel, I make sure the hotel has a good fitness area or there is a gym close by where I can get on the treadmill and do some weights. At the airport, I do the same thing...walk the terminal before it's time to board. 4-5 laps in an Atlanta terminal for example can give a nice walk and get a lot of walking in…

It's hard to say what's going on with your knee without having it examined. I was having severe pain in my right knee, so I had it checked out. Some of my pain is from osteoarthritis caused by wear and tear over the years. Extra weight can cause this. To counter it, I get injections every 9 months. If you are just starting…

After about 10 lb. lost. Some clothes that had been getting tight started to fit right again. It was hard for me to notice by looking in the mirror, but when I measured my abdominal circumference I saw that I had lost almost 1/2 an inch.

Stick with it. You have been working on this for 14 days...may take another week or two before you start to have noticable changes. Took me 3 1/2 weeks before the scale started moving in the right direction...and even went up about 2 lb. Once I started losing, it stayed pretty steady at 1.5-2lb per week. Now, after 90…

I can't stand to drink plain water either. I use Mio quite a lot. I know that the artificial flavors and sweeteners are not the greatest thing for you, but I use just enough to add a little flavor and think it's better than the 2-3 diet sodas I used to drink every day. Adding a little 100% fruit juice, as others suggest,…

Height: 5' 8" Heaviest: 202 lb Lightest: 168 lb Current: 172 (relapsed while I was finishing PhD...lots of late nights writing depending on caffeine and sugar to stay awake...and living on 4-5 hours of sleep with no exercise) Goal: 165 lb (I may even try to get to 160 lb, but will make that decision when I hit my goal and…

Missing a day of working out is ok. Like many others have said, your body needs rest to recover and repair/build muscle. I personally work out 4 or 5 days per week. Wednesdays and Saturdays are my days off. I try to get a long run in on Sunday mornings if I can manage to get out the door before the kids get up. I just have…

It took 3 or 4 weeks before I started to lose. Your body is making adjustments to your new routine. Just stick with it and weight will start coming off. I did start to see my waist measurement decreasing in about 2 weeks. It was small...maybe 1/4 of an inch but it was noticeable in how my clothes fit.

I'm not. I choose whole grains instead of processed carbs...whole wheat bread and pasta, whole grain rice, etc. I minimize the sweets (but can't avoid Reese's cups completely). When I eat chips, I eat rice chips with hummus or fresh salsa. I eat lots of fruits and veggies as well. When I get a sugar craving, I find that an…

Preventative medicine is as important as crisis response medicine. Going in to have check-ups and assessments of your health (especially since you have greatly improved your health) can identifiy problems and deal with them before they become crisis response ER visits. I grew up as a country boy who only when to the doctor…

I have switched to almond milk...40 cal/cup and as much calcium as regular milk. Good in protein too.

I do this after every 5 lb lost. Glad you posted this...I knew to do these things already, but I'm sure many do not.

Mine is $26/month. I use LA Fitness in my area because they have many options. Treadmills, ellipticals, rowers, bikes, and stair climbers for cardio. Free and Machine weights for strength training. An indoor pool for swimming (which I mix into my routine), basketball courts and organized leagues, and tons of classes that…

I weigh in first thing in the morning after using the restroom and before eating. I have found that weighing after working out results in 2-3 pounds less. I do a combined running and weight routine 4 days per week and sweat a lot during that time. So, I lose a couple pounds of water weight. I thing the most accurate…

I don't think so. I have played the yo-yo game for years. I can get near my target, but once I quit being diligent about watching what I eat or relax my exercise routine, I begin putting weight back on really fast. I'm always either losing or gaining...this time I want to get to my goal and maintain. So, I will have to…

You're off to a great start! Keep it up and you'll be wearing those 32 jeans before you know it.

Not always. If my wife wants me to taste something or I have a little nibble here or there, I may not log it. If I have more than just a taste, I log it. Some say that "calories are calories" and that you can sabotage your weight loss (and that is very true), but I have managed to average 2-3 lbs per week for the last 6…

Timex Iron Man Road Trainer HRM. Easy to use and watch is water resistent. I had the FT7 but it was flimsy and had probelms with lost communication between chest strap and watch. I wasn't confident that the calorie estimation was accurate since it dropped comms a lot. The chest strap on the timex is much better, I have…

I would personally like to take a week-long mountain biking trip at Moab. Had a friend take a guided tour a few years back and said it was awesome. I personally hate road/city biking...too boring...riding on fun off-road trails is more my speed. Unfortunately, I don't see that in my future in the near term...have to wait…

Amazing! Great job and congrats! You are truly an inspiration.

I don't share with my wife anymore either. She is not focused on getting fit and gets very self conscious when I talk about how much I've lost, show how my clothes don't fit anymore, or mention how my running pace and strength are improving. I once thought that sharing what I'm doing and the success I'm having would…

I have one and love it! I wear it all the time. Using the fitbit allows me to see how active I am when not working out and adjust my allowable calories accordingly each day. I track exercise using a HRM, but use the fitbit for everything else.

Yes! If you want to have a good estimate of the calories you take in, you need to measure portions. Just guessing may be ok for some people, but some things are very deceptive. Take nuts for example...calorie dense food (~170/serving for almonds) where a serving is 1/4 cup or about 30 g...a handful of nuts is more like 1.5…

Running usually suppresses my appetite. I do eat either greek yogurt (Fage 0%) with fruit or drink low carb protein shake. Body needs good carbs plus protein to rebuild itself after working out.
