  • In my experience that's when I'm about to drop weight (assuming I'm not undereating and experiencing necessary hunger). After hitting maintenance, it was due to TOM or eating/drinking too much artificial sugar.
  • ^HMMM....that is an interesting way to do it...I'd never thought of doing it that way.
  • ^agreed...I'm not sure why I'm having so much trouble getting my weekends to a bit more respectable. I've always liked the say you can have it all, you just can't have it all at once! I guess I focus a lot on maintenance because it was a difficult transition the first time and what led me to regain 10 lbs so I want to be…
  • I was following Tosca Reno's recipes from the "Clean Diet" cookbook and book. I still use a lot of the recipes, but the "clean" lifestyle just isn't for me. I can no longer eat 5-6xs a day and as much as I want to be a full fledge health nut it's just not sustainable for me.
  • Honestly the skinny cow's aren't for fuel at all...I have a sweet tooth...and I'm sure there are things that I could do to curb it, but I'm not sure I'm interested, it's been an issue my entire life and I have tried in the path to find other ways to deal with it and nothing really seems to work. I've even gone with the…
  • This just proves what poor memory I have! I completely forgot about all that stuff! LOL! I've been trying to "allow" intermittent splurges when craving arise to hopefully decrease the all out deliberate splurges on the weekends, clearly that's not working so maybe it's time to get back to saying no more often if I'm going…
  • Thanks Beila! I'm working on the creamer thing. M-F I'm down to 6 Tbsps. My coffee mug is HUGE so at best I may be able to get myself down to 4, this is a work in process. I agree with the odawalla bar thing. At the moment I've moved my afternoon snack to right after lunch or as part of my lunch because I find not eating a…
  • ^Does MFP show a refined vs natural sugar breakdown? I wouldn't base your comments on F-Su in my diary. I am already completely aware those days need work. M-Th is pretty balanced and how I *try* to eat as often as possible. Low carb would be hard for me based on my personally preferences and being a runner. I am also not…
  • I guess my issue is that I like to splurge on the weekends and I'm pretty sure there is nothing I can do to change that about me. So in all honestly I guess I'm asking how can I do that and still lose weight. And all I can come up with is eat low durning the week so there's room to go over on the weekends. I just need to…
  • I am tracking on the weekends, that's how I know I'm WAY over. But I get what you're saying. Right now I easily hit 2500-3000 F-Su (Although sometimes since Sunday is my long run day, that's actually not going "over"). So if I could scale that back and like you said hit maintenance my deficit wouldn't be as high for the…
  • Of course let me clarify before I get attacked, I am a firm believer in what works for you and have no problem with any eating style if you enjoy it and can do it comfortably and in a non obsessive way.
  • Getting rid of processed foods is a good venture, however, IMO I think everything in moderation is fine unless you have some specific medical condition or your are training for a fitness competition or trying to get very lean. I keep watching, myself included, people going from one extreme to the other. Not caring what we…
  • For me binging has nothing to do with hunger...it's completely emotional I think. There are times I may overeat because I'm too hungry, but not binge. I agree I need to break the cycle and find something else to do...what that is I don't know. So far the hunger part of this fast is easy as can been, which I'm grateful for…
  • Unless you are rock climbing six miles there is no way you burned 1400 cals on a 6 mile hike. I'd either get a heart rate monitor or eat maybe 1/3 of them back if that.
  • If you're not a breakfast person, you're not a breakfast person. There's nothing that says you HAVE to eat breakfast, ok well maybe there is, but seriously do you know how many people I know within a normal body weight range that don't eat breakfast. As long as your cals a in the right range and you're not binging or over…
  • My take is this, in the big picture it does not matter. The ONLY thing that matters is what works for you and what you can sustain for enough time to lose the weight you want and then maintain that lose over your lifetime. You can get into all the specifics of blood sugar and this and that, but I have done a ridulous…
  • Hi there! Congrats to all! I'm training for my second half, it's in August. I'm using this training to prep for a full (hopefully) so I'll peak at 15 miles. Super excited and I love it! I started running last year at about 185 lbs, I could barely run for 5 mins, but I kept at it and here I am today rarely running less than…
  • If it works for you work it! Just mix it up like you and everyone said and work different muscle groups different days. I've been working out daily for probably a year, but one of my days is just walking, so that's kind of a rest. Also listen to your body and do not feel guilty if some days you do need a rest.
  • Hmmm....I wish I could say I've had the same experience. It took me 4 years to lose all my weight (granted there was a pregnancy in there) and I still have loose skin in my tummy. HOWEVER, I will say that over this last year of maintaining it has improved dramatically and it is becoming more and more apparent that I need…
  • I always just count all of it. But I use really low cal stuff like Newman's Own Balsamic Vinegret and only 45 cals per serving so it doesn't really take away from my day. Honestly unless you are meticulously weighing everything, fruits, veggies and even packaged items, your calorie counting is just an estimate anyway, so…
  • Yeah, I apologize for calling it anorexic, that was a little harsh. I think ESE as it was intended is probably great, I think my issue is the way these guys and gals are using it and what's weird is they are very close with Brad. Maybe I'm missing something I dunno. I will say that many of them are getting down to the…
  • So Godbless can you explain a little more on why you do it? It's ok if you don't want to. Is it so you can eat a little more on nonfast days or to make up for "cheat days" or because it gives you more energy or because you think it will help you lose faster?
  • I think you're right, I have heard a few stories of people using it "correctly" so to speak. And if that fits into your lifestyle, then great. I guess I'm super concerned about this idea or culture of people who are doing pretty intense exercise and eating so low (aka well below BMR). I guess I also just don't understand…
  • I think I'm in total denial about food addiction, I know I need to go there, I'm just not sure I'm ready and I want to believe some day I can practice moderation - maybe like a social alcoholic:)
  • Thanks everyone, it's good to know I'm not alone. I guess I'm just frustrated to have lost all this weight and made all these changes to my life and still struggle. I was under no disillusion that weight loss would solve "everything" but man food issues are a toughy. I guess I just have to keep fighting, persistence was…
  • ^^^seriously? You equate CL to diet soda? Ok, the chemicals are similar, but isn't that a bit of a stretch? What if I drank 32oz of water the ate a packet of CL, would I still not be drinking water? Bottom line, if that's what you need to do to get you water in, go for it. Would plain water be better? Absolutely. But some…
  • Redhead, what makes you think you'd be overweight at a 10? I'm 5'6, not overweight and as I mentioned often wear a 10.
  • So when I hit my "goal" I was an 8/10, now 10lbs above I'm still an 8/10. I feel really good here honestly, but societal pressures say...I'm huge...ridiculous right? So in the back of my mind I'm hoping to lose the extra 10, because the 8/10s are a little snug, and another 10 to hopefully get down to a 6/8. Because why?…
  • ^ well thanks for ruining all the fun LOL! Seriously though, I try my best to limit my chemicals, preservatives, etc. but life is too short and I'm already too OCD to stress about all of it and if that's the way I'm going to get in my water well...keep informing this masses though - we need to know the truth!
