  • I'm 46, but I'd still consider Ashley Banjo! ;) Though my first pick has to be Alexander Skarsgard...
  • It's great stuff. :) I use it in my little low-carb flax-meal breakfast muffins (not low-cal, just low carb! About 235 cal per muffin, but only a couple of net carb grams), and they taste great. (1/4 c flax meal, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp splenda, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 egg, 1 tsp coconut oil--mix everything up in a mug, then…
  • Modcloth.com, ShabbyApple.com, BostonProper.com ... I'm a Crossroads Trading/Buffalo Exchange shopper myself, but you may or may not be in a city that has those stores!
  • Train for THIS, then. :) http://runforyourlives.com
  • Another Whovian (and all around nerd/SF geek) checking in! :) Feel free to add me.
  • Losing weight for a wedding is OK... but losing weight for the marriage and life to follow is so much more meaningful. :) Think about all the wonderful adventures your life holds in store for you, and how healthy you want to be for all that stuff... a wedding day is a wonderful thing, but a healthy life together is what…
  • I'm using this one: http://www.figleaves.com/us/product.asp?product=Shock-Absorber-Run-Sports-Bra&product_id=BB-B5044&size=&colour=Black --it's amazing. Best sports bra I've EVER had, and I'm way above D in the alphabet! I also have an Elomi sports bra (from the same site)--it was good, but the wires dug into me a bit as I…
  • I definitely agree with Eleanor (above)--mix-and-match vintage is wonderful without being too costume-y. I tend to use lots of vintage costume jewelry (thank goodness for my city's annual Goodwill Glitter Sale!) and mix it with jeans etc. Check out the dresses at modcloth.com and take a look at Bernie Dexter's designs and…
  • Mine will be a strange collection, and somewhat older than most... Crowded House Hothouse Flowers Elvis Costello Kate Bush The Cure I've seen three out of the five live. :) There are so many more, but these are the five that come to mind right now, I guess because I'm in a wistful, nostalgic mood tonight.
  • Maybe get her a special toy that she ONLY gets to play with on the days when you get to work out in peace... like a REALLY special toy with flashing lights and noises and glitter and ponies and pink ruffles (some, perhaps not all of the above...) that will make her crazy with joy! :) As soon as she bugs you, you take the…
  • Outside the park, I've had great experiences with the Candy Cane Inn. Have also stayed at the Anaheim Plaza recently--it's very no-frills but really affordable. Candy Cane costs more but is lovely. The pool is in a pretty garden, and breakfast is served by the pool every morning. Quick free shuttle to the park. Tips for…
  • I LOVE yoga. But hate hot yoga... that's an entirely different thing. Torture... ugh. But regular yoga is awesome. :)

  • Madam Vashtra and Jenny. The Awesome Victorian Silurian Lesbian Duo. :) They were lots of fun. More Neil Gaiman. And please, oh, please, let TERRY PRATCHETT write an episode.
  • Hi!
  • I adore River... wanted to be her for Halloween but didn't get my act together in time!
  • I just keep popcorn around. Those little 100-calorie bags. Generally, that's what I restrict myself to after dinner--either a small bag of popcorn or a piece of fresh fruit. I hate going to sleep hungry! But if you really want to just STOP, the idea of brushing teeth and applying willpower sounds ideal.
  • Yep! Eat your exercise calories--that way you're getting fitter, you're still losing weight, AND you have enough energy to keep working out! I consider it my reward--I still have the same net calories at the end of the day, so I'm still losing. I know it may seem rather counterintuitive, but it works out just fine.
  • As someone else mentioned, great shoes AND a really good sports bra, especially if you're anything above a B cup! Without my Elomi sports bra I would seriously not be able to run at all!
  • This is tough for me... my husband is in very poor health, but isn't willing to do much about it. Unfortunately, the more weight I lose, and the higher my fitness level gets, the worse he feels. :( But... I keep going. My parents were in a similar situation once--it took a long time, but my Dad eventually came around! My…
  • Rather than planning small goals (though that's an awesome idea too!), I have taught myself to think in terms of small (non-food!) rewards for eating well and exercising regularly. A pedicure... a book I've been wanting... a new pair of earrings... a glass of really nice wine with dinner (OK, so that's sort of a food…
  • How do I manage it... honestly? I simply keep reminding myself exactly why I'm doing it. For my daughter. Because I want to be there when she graduates, and dance at her wedding, and hold my grandchildren, and attend THEIR college graduation, and stay as healthy and active as possible as I get older. And right now, while…
  • 1) Measuring/weighing portions and reading labels semi-obsessively. 2) Walking/jogging (C25K and just plain old walking around the beautiful lake near my house!), and yoga. 3) MFP. 4) My daughter--I want to stay healthy for her sake as much as my own! 5) My rising energy levels as I lose the weight and exercise more!…
  • I've been eating my exercise calories back consistently since I joined MFP back in the spring. I heed the advice of those who caution against going into starvation mode. I want to have the energy to keep gaining strength as well as losing weight, so it makes perfect sense to re-fuel myself after I work out. So far, so…
  • 45 here! I've lost 31 lbs so far, starting in spring (watching portions, walking/running, and yoga/pilates). It can be done!
  • This is wonderful stuff. Add a little garlic to it... mmm. And make an omelette with the leftovers! I love love LOVE Swiss chard, especially the rainbow kind. I sautee the stalks in a little olive oil and garlic, then throw in the leaves and a bit of water and put the lid on till it all softens up. Best. Vegetable. Ever. :)
  • Ratatouille is great, and so is Low-fat Moussaka--just make the bechamel with skim milk, broil the eggplant instead of frying it, and cut back on any cheese in the recipe! Last time I did that it came out just great.
  • I've been doing regular yoga (not in a heated studio) and it feels great! I'm gaining strength and muscle tone, and my posture is WAY better. I don't think it's doing much for weight loss, but that's what the walking/running I do is for, I figure. But I do think that the yoga--hot or otherwise--is great for core strength…

  • I'm hoping for 145, would be ecstatic about 150, though!
  • Endomondo. Love it.
  • My saving grace at dinnertime has been carefully measured portions combined with lots of zucchini, spaghetti squash, or salad to "pad out" the meal so I don't feel hungry! For example--when I make spaghetti, I'll have just 1/2 cup of noodles and 3/4cup of meat sauce, BUT I'll put everything over a pile of steamed zucchini…
