I'm no expert on this but I do believe that too much protein can harm your kidneys IF you are not burning it off otherwise (hard workouts inducing muscle growth). A good question for a nutritionist.

I use Hummus as a sandwich spread in place of Mayo. Garlic Hummus with Roast Beef, or the roasted red pepper with Ham or Turkey Breast. Sometimes I had a little tabouli as well.
