I have a friend who had lap band surgery. She was very overweight and wasn't willing to exercise or watch her nutrition...she did it because she was lazy and wanted results without having to work. However, she found out that it was a lot stricter on her nutrition to have the surgery than if she just would have started…

Good point!

Wow, lots of wonderful ideas!!

Actually, our bodies burn off the calories from carbohydrates first, then fat, then proteins.
-
I always go over on protein as well. The RDA suggests you to consume around 36 grams of protein for every pound of body weight. So if you weigh 170 pounds, you need about 61 grams of protein each day. If you go WAY over on protein, it could cause some issues with your kidneys, but it would have to be a pretty large amount…

The best form of protein is from whole foods - lean meat (chicken, turkey, etc.), egg whites, cottage cheese, tofu, etc. There are some good protein supplements out there, but finding one that dissolves well or tastes good by simply mixing it with water is hard to find. I've tried a few from Walmart, GNC, and other places…

Cracked black pepper & a little garlic powder (not garlic SALT). Spray w/a little butter flavor cooking spray then sprinkle on the seasoning!

Wow, awesome advice everyone! I will have to break out my 24 oz. water bottle again, it has a straw built in also and just make myself sip on it all day until I get into the groove again. I like the idea of not allowing myself to drink anything else unless I have at least 8 oz. of water first! Thanks everyone!!!!

Claire, Hang tight! What type of exercises are you doing at the gym? If you're doing cardio only, then add in some strength training. Muscle burns fat, so work on building some lean muscle. Also, I read someone say "fat turning to muscle"....fat does not turn into muscle, nor does muscle turn into fat. They are two totally…

I feel your pain! I crave carbs....crunchy stuff like chips. I'm not much on sweets but during that time of the month I want them also. What I do is keep some York Peppermint Patties around and allow myself to eat one. I eat if very slowly and enjoy it! I've also found that the mini 3 Muskateers Dark Chocolate Mint candy…

Tomorrow is a new day! Good thing we get re-do's, huh? LOL! Seriously though, you didn't undo everything you've already accomplished. You could either workout to burn off some of the extra calories or workout really hard tomorrow! It's good that you realize that fast food is NOT a good idea. So just pick up tomorrow and…

Hi twogirls! How did you lose that first 7 lbs.? Start tracking your calories...every little thing you eat! If you overeat by 100 calories per day, you could gain approx. 10 lbs. in a year. So it's pretty important to write down everything you consume in a day; including what you drink. If you drink regular soda - STOP!…

I agree w/most everyone here...MFP figures in your exercise deficit already. Don't force yourself to eat more calories that aren't needed. No one should ever go below 1200 calories per day! Your body will go into starvation mode and will begin to store fat in order to protect itself. Just because you may not feel hungry…

Wow, 9 lbs. is awesome! Great job!! I've never done the South Beach diet, but have heard great things about it. I've tried Weight Watchers but didn't like the fact that you're eating so many processed foods. I would say to stick with it a few more weeks (at least). How many calories a day are you eating on the South Beach…

I've been involved in the fitness "world" for about 3 years now, as a personal trainer & a fitness coach. Having buddies is a great way to help keep each other accountable and motivated. Just a few things...diet alone is not going to get the results you want. You must add in strength training & cardio, along with…

First...congrats on reaching your goal!!! That's awesome! Remember, it isn't unusual for our weight to fluctuate a couple pounds from time to time, depends on the time of the month, if you're under any stress, too much sodium, etc. One day of bad eating is not going to ruin all your efforts. Did you weigh yourself at the…
