I'm surprised how much it really helps to have motivational friends! Glad to join you :)

So true! Hard to remember, but developing awareness of when we are about to eat for the wrong reasons is half the battle. If you are aware you can make a decision about what is really best for you - dealing with emotions or diving into food.

I don't know about the calories, but I love the lettuce wraps. They are an appetizer but totally large enough to eat as a meal. You at least eat some lettuce with the tasty bits :).

Fat people do yoga! We even teach yoga :) I second a previous poster, you can always call the yoga studio or teacher ahead of time to express your concerns. Not sure where you live, but I highly recommend a Bikram method Hatha yoga class if there is a studio in your area. It is a beginner class, and the heat helps keep you…

I don't have recommendations for a juicer - we got ours at bed bath and beyond. But for easy and tasty beginner juices, I recommend adding carrots. They are really sweet and tasty, mix it with apple or orange. You can add a little ginger too . . . some may argue that carrots have too much sugar but I think it is a good…

Ask when you go, they have lists printed up that are amazingly up to date with all of their foods that fit special needs diets - like gluten free, vegan, etc. They are usually brightly colored and hanging on a wall by the frozen food section. You can pick one up and use it as a guide around the store! I'm vegan, and it's…

Thanks everyone. Hodar, I like what you said. I think I'm going to do every day and track it on here. I know it can fluctuate for lots of reasons, so I'm more interested in the overall trend.

I'm thinking of weighing myself every morning, first thing. I know there are small increases and decreases, but the "reports" on here tracks it all, so you can just watch for an overall downward trend, instead of getting stuck on particular numbers. Anyway, that's what I'm thinking :).

I love those moments of inspiration! A great "A-ha!" moment :)

Thanks for the information, Azdak. That makes sense to me, though I do think that it is possible to burn a high number of calories during class due to the intensity of the postures. I don't have anything but my experience to back that up though. I think that it is important to always listen to the body a little bit too,…

I agree with previous poster, I think there can be a range depending on how hard you are working and the heat/humidity of the class. Though they are all supposed to be the same (105 degrees and 40% humidity) there can be some variation. I would say anywhere from 500-1000 calories is a good range. I always input the…

I went vegetarian about 17 years ago and have been vegan for the last 9 or so of those years. I'm just now learning how to cook - I've survived on prepared foods, vegan "junk food", and a few staple recipes. I'm interested in changing my whole relationship to food, which includes spending more time preparing it. I've also…

I eat my exercise calories, though sometimes I can't manage to eat them all. Like a previous poster, I'm at 1200 calories a day, so if I do Bikram yoga that burns a ton of calories and I definitely need to eat more. And, I've been having success so I think I'm doing it right!
