My morning smoothie is pretty simple - 8 oz of orange juice, a couple hand fulls of kale, some strawberries, and a scoop of protein powder. If I'm going to be drinking it right away I add chia seeds to it, but not if I'm taking it in to work for later.

I wasn't experiencing vertigo per se, but I was getting dizzy and nearly blacking out in class for awhile. I upped my calories and it totally stopped. Could also be dehydration. This post is from a few months ago, any update for us?

I'm a Bikram certified teacher and I loved that book. Really shed some light on things that previously everyone knew about but didn't talk about . . . since he's written the book there have a been a number of sexual assault allegations filed against Bikram. About time, IMO. Let me also say that I am a devoted yogi who…

I second the idea of making a smoothie to devour right after class - I have done this for my 6 a.m. classes as well. I would chug it in the car on the way to work after class. The other option you have is to wake up 2 hours early, eat something like a banana or a lara bar, and go back to sleep until you need to wake up.…

Did you figure anything out with this yet? I would say it has to do with either holding your knees in too close together or letting them open too wide; most students let them open too wide.

I used to say that trying to get enough protein was ridiculous, and that you don't really need that much. But then I started listening to my body. I feel better when I get more. I don't have any recommendations for protein powder for you because the ones I like are all stupid expensive. I like to have a protein smoothie…

I think green juice is a great plan - and if your rash is detox - which it probably is - nothing to do but let it happen as it pushes this stuff out of your system. Whenever I take a break from hot yoga and then go back, my skin breaks out like crazy. It's got to push out all of the toxins that got left inside while I…

I don't know about the affordable part, but when I first starting eating raw I did my research and got an excalibur. I think anything with a temperature gauge is great. Also, I have known many people who bought less expensive dehydrators at first just to make sure it was something they were really going to use before…

I've been thinking about buying this book lately. For those that read it, how was it helpful?

Two recommendations: If you can find Theo chocolate bars in your area (they are local, but they also sell them at Whole Foods - maybe nationally?) get yourself some now! My favorite is the salted almond dark chocolate - vegan, and only 70 calories for a sixth of the bar - totally workable into a daily limit. The second is…

Hey, welcome to the site! There are some good veggie/vegan/raw groups on here if you want to connect. I've been vegan for about a decade and also found that vegan doesn't equal healthy ;). Right now I'm on a raw food kick and am feeling the same awesome energy that I felt when I first went vegan. I have a sweet tooth but I…

Hey! Welcome! Someone on this site recommended this site - therawtarian.com, and it is my new favorite. Everything is really easy and delicious. Unbelievably so. I haven't found any cookbooks that I really love, because I'm really busy/lazy, but I have used Living on Live Foods a few times and the raw recipes in Brendan…

First of all, you are going to be ok! We all screw up sometimes, and sometimes that can stretch for a week or two. If you feel like crap about yourself, you are going to be unable to do what you need to do. So show yourself compassion - focus on what you have done right, like logging on here today and asking for help! What…

Hello, just checking in. 14 days in and I've lost 4.6 pounds. I'm feeling great! Plenty of energy, and I just keep thinking raw food tastes so good, why would I ever go back? Of course, convenience and habit. For example, today I'm teaching three Bikram yoga classes and historically I would get pho for lunch to replace the…

I am ten days in and feeling great. So much more sustainable than when I've tried to do all raw in the past. Over the years I seem to have increased my comfort and repertoire of raw foods to the point that it doesn't feel like more work or limiting in any way; mostly I just feel like I get to eat delicious stuff and feel…

Thanks everyone! I guess maybe I should have added that I HAVE lost about 30 pounds overall . . . but again, the weight loss hardly seems the point anymore. :)

I finally splurged on Vega protein powder, and I love it! I got the vanilla and it's delicious - tastes even better than spirutein. It's spendy, but it's quality protein and soy free.

Hey, I haven't taken those but I'm wondering if you have now, since you posted a few weeks ago. Notice any benefit?

There are some really great vegetarian groups on here, if you want to search under "Groups" you'll find plenty of info :)

Just checked this book out on Amazon - it looks great! I'm a super lazy/busy vegan who loves eating raw, but I need quick and easy. Maybe I'll buy this book on payday :)

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your responses. It makes me feel much more confident that I'm doing the right thing instead of just being a slacker, you know? I was able to get in for a massage this afternoon, so hopefully that will help. If not, I will try to get in to see my doc on Monday. Thanks again!

Thanks, Dragonnade. Maybe I'll go for a walk instead and focus on stretching it out. I've been applying heat as well, maybe I'll try some ice and an anti-inflammatory.

I don't usually put any type of milk in my smoothies. Right now my standard has been spinach or kale, strawberries, protein powder, and orange juice. Also I add in ground flax and chia seeds. Sometimes I add different fruits, and if I don't have any orange juice I just add water.

I'm also lost . . . vegan and gluten free here, leaning toward raw. Right now I feel like 20% protein is a goal for me as I'm just starting P90X and am hoping to build a lot of muscle. I had a nutritionist adamantly tell me that I needed no more than 15%. The P90X guide says 50% (!) to start. Raw foodies say - doesn't…

I have a 5 tray excalibur. It does take up some space, that's for sure. But I love it. I've been slacking on raw food so I only use it maybe once every few months. But it is definitely worthwhile. The main things I make with it are flax crackers, raw teriyaki almonds, and kale chips. My husband loves to dehydrate fruit on…

When I'm trying to increase my raw foods intake I make a couple of dips - either a sunflower seed pate or a raw cashew dip - and couple that with raw flax crackers. And of course, smoothies smoothies smoothies. There are a couple of raw groups on here if you're interested - might find some good info!

Yeah I try not to eat soy too much and I am usually only looking at sustainable diet changes, but with P90X I am looking at doing high protein intake for a limited time. I also have a brown rice protein powder but I haven't looked at the carb/protein ratio yet.

I've been staring at this same beast. Trying to work up to 50% protein. I think I'm going to be eating a lot of high protein tofu (14 grams per 100 calories) and also protein powders. Trader Joe's soy protein powder has 25 grams of protein and zero carbs, if I remember correctly. So far those are the two items I have found…
