Apparently yes, it's a thing: http://greatist.com/fitness/naked-yoga-review

I have to admit I'm kind of fascinated by this predicament. It sounds like you trust your doctors enough to take their advice seriously, which (I personally think) is a very good thing. When I first began trying to lose weight, I had had many years of back problems and was pretty well convinced that most forms of exercise…

I know this isn't what you were asking about, but if you don't already know about it, it's worth checking out the You Are Your Own Gym program. Lots of libraries have the book and there's tons of stuff on the web about it. It's bodyweight-only strength training and it is VERY challenging. http://amzn.com/0971407614…

Running can be pretty hard on your body, depending on lots of factors (not just weight or overall fitness). With careful training and patience, you can probably get there. But what I wonder is - why are you running? Is running a 5K something you really want to do? Or are you doing it just for health and general fitness?…

Wanted to add that I never heard the expression HSP before. To be honest, at first I thought you (the OP) were making a peculiar joke. But after a bit of Googling, I'm starting to suspect that I may fall into the same category. It's not a clinical concept I'm familiar with, but in going to try to learn more. Thanks.

I started doing yoga when I was at my heaviest. I've always had back problems and I'm not all that young any more, so I wanted to build a base of flexibility before I started doing much else. I love it. I think you should go ahead and do it. The one thing i might recommend is asking around various yoga studios or classes…

Thanks for posting this question. I've been wondering the same thing. I've been following the exercise plan in Starting Strength too, but like you, I'm on a calorie deficit and have been stalling out on every exercise way earlier than I "should". And yeah, I know the whole YNDTP shtick. I figure once I get to my goal…

Something else to consider re exercise, if you're looking for ideas -- I borrowed a copy of the book, You Are Your Own Gym, by Mark Lauren, from the local library. It has a great collection of bodyweight-only exercises that you can do in your living room, at all levels of difficulty and for all muscle groups (so you can…

how do you feel about greek yogurt? ... the other thing is, if you have an immersion blender, you can blend it for ten seconds and have a nice emulsion that doesn't look as oily.

I'm working on doing my first "real" pull-up too. I've never been able to do it before. If I start from a dead hang, I don't go anywhere. If I start a little higher up, with my arms slightly bent, I can do several in a row. It's the very bottom of the range of motion that gives me problems. Here are the resources I've been…

You forgot "brilliant" (pronounced "brih-yant").

Wish I had good advice for you. I've been there. It's tricky to balance it out -- you want to be as active as you can, but not MORE active. Pushing through the pain is really bad advice, I think. On the other hand, the more you can safely keep moving, the better. Probably a good idea to adjust your diet accordingly -- you…

I quit cold turkey too (on July 21, 1996) after smoking a pack a day for about eight years (and many attempts at quitting). I found acupuncture really helped with the cravings, surprisingly. Also, I found that I had to change the way I thought about smoking. To me, this was the key. Every time I tried to quit, there would…

Sounds like your friend is a little overwhelmed thinking about the changes she'd have to make -- not just eating THIS food instead of THAT one but actually changing her habits and attitudes. It's tough, and kids make it tougher (I have two). But still, if she eventually comes around to trying it a little, she'll probably…

I hate to say it, but if your numbers are right, you should do whatever you can to get yourself to a medical professional. 700 calories per day sounds like borderline malnutrition to me, and it appears that your appetite is suppressed for some reason. You really need to get yourself checked out (hormone imbalances can mess…

This is almost ALWAYS stuck in my head ... But currently it's Manfred Mann's Version of Quinn the Eskimo ... how's that for random? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liIQLIx2Onw

happens to me pretty frequently too (strangely enough, only with female masseuses). felt really self-conscious about it at first, but no one ever seemed fazed by it.

I've had many many years of back pain, and I've done a lot of yoga. I think yoga is very good for your back, but like everyone else is saying, it's risky to just do it on your own, especially if you're already injured and/or very tight and inflexible. Hamstring tightness could be your single biggest problem, if you don't…

For serious bodyweight workouts, have you seen the book You Are Your Own Gym, by Mark Lauren? It's a good investment.

Couple other points to keep in mind (I'm not an expert either): first, yes, changing your body composition is a slow process. You don't say how long you've been at it, but don't get discouraged. You're simultaneously metabolizing fat and building new muscle tissue -- that's a lot of work for your body to go through.…

That's fantastic progress for just one month. Keep it up.

First of all congratulations on what you've already accomplished. I don't have anything to add to what's been said above, but I wanted to say -- if you're exercising regularly, lifting heavy, and eating right, maybe you don't need to worry too much about the number on the scale now?

The smell of a freshly sharpened pencil. Don't know why, but I love it.

It's totally normal to feel self-conscious about running ... I was sure my neighbors would be looking out their windows, giggling at me. I've found it's helpful to go to a park where there are a lot of runners. When I do that, I can usually count on someone looking even goofier than me. But the important thing is, if you…

Here's another tip you might not have heard about before. If you can get Gold Rush apples at a farm stand or something, try those. They can be hard to find (you won't see them in stores), but they blow all other apples out of the water. I get them from a nearby orchard, and they'll keep all winter long in a plastic bag in…

If you're into that kind of thing, join a social website like Fitocracy and post your workouts there. You'll get lots of encouragement, for one thing. Also, it turns workout tracking into a kind of game so you're competing against yourself and against others. It's pretty cool, and it's a great community of people who can…

Turned 42 last week!

You probably realized this already, but you can substitute it for brown rice pretty much anywhere you'd use rice -- soups, salads, casseroles, vegetable dishes, etc. You can even cook it in a rice cooker, no problem. I eat it constantly.
