  • The only thing magic about grapefuit is how great it is this season.
  • Turn off the zone alarms. Problem solved.
  • Oh that's interesting - I have had good luck using yogurt in Indian dishes. I would think it would have been okay with tikka masala. But yes, I bet you can find light coconut milk in the UK. Sorry for giving a US specific brand option. This makes me think though that if you can't find light coconut milk, buy the regular…
  • This is just what I was going to say. Also, do a trial at the gym you're considering first (nearly all have this). Make sure it fits you. My gym has people of all sizes and fitness levels. I felt comfortable there when I weighed 300 pounds, and I feel comfortable there now. Honestly, walking in the first time was hard. I…
  • I often use the light coconut milk from Trader Joe's. I honestly think it's just watered down coconut milk but it's fine for curries. Nothing beats a high quality full fat version, but if you're watching calories it will do.
  • Both of these things are absolute motivators for me. I lost 130 pounds (2.5 years of maintenance) and with such a substantial loss, I *know* people are just waiting for me to re-gain. I am too stubborn to give them that satisfaction. And, I'm finally buying the clothes I've wanted. I invest money into nice things -…
  • @althom2‌ Just wanted to reply to say that I know you can do it. When it's different, it's different. When it feels good and not like punishment or torture, you know you're on the right path. I can't wait to read your success story thread :)
  • Tagging for the tips.
  • This happens to be if I was too hungry before I ate. For instance, busy day for whatever reason where I go 6-8 hours before eating until I'm famished, then I sit and have a nice big dinner, but I still feel hungry when I'm done. I try to go on a walk, have a class of water, etc - but if I'm still hungry, I eat something.
  • 130 pounds lost in 18 months without a plateau. I steadily lost about 2 pounds a week (I was 120 down exactly one year from the start), then purposely slowed down my weight loss as I transitioned to maintenance and trained for a half marathon.
  • No tipping, but a Christmas gift is nice.
  • I make green smoothies two days at a time in my vitamix. I actually like the taste of them more after a few hours, and they're totally fine the next day too. I could never use them as a meal replacement though...they're just a delicious snack for me.
  • Best decision I ever made was to be on my own team. <3
  • I do, @aplcr0331‌ - thanks for the compliment. I try not to be an egomaniac jerk so I'm glad I succeeded :)
  • http://www.amazon.com/Barleans-Organic-Oils-Omega-3-250-Softgels/dp/B002VLZ8AI Barlean's Orange taste like candy. Even my toddler love(d) them. I don't take them anymore but they were the only fish oil I could handle.
  • I didn't respond to that thread, but I don't log everything. Most days I'm good about it, but I take many days off from logging at all. Why do I do this? Because when I started here, weighing more than 300 pounds, I set out to not just lose weight but develop a system for maintaining that loss. When you have 130 pounds to…
  • Just as an opposing viewpoint - I starting lifting weights when I weighed more than 300 pounds. I lifted religiously three hours a week, with cardio 90-120 minutes a week. If I skipped a session, it was cardio, never weights. I lost weight crazy steadily and - bonus! - I kept a good deal of muscle. Now, 130 pounds of…
  • Does your gym have classes? If so, see if they have Body Pump on the schedule. It's not a class I personally take, but it will teach you tons of lifts (with good form, if you have a good instructor) using barbells. Then you can use those skills as a basis for moving onto the barbells in the weight room with a program like…
  • Imagine how incredible you're going to feel when you do the whole thing :) Because, if you keep it up, you're not far from it.
  • ^^ very good answer. I weigh raw whenever feasible, because cooking method and timing can alter cooked weight but raw is more consistent. for instance, take 120 grams of raw chicken. If you cook it beautifully, it will be moister and therefore weigh more than if you overcooked it. You'll be underestimating if you weigh the…
  • This, exactly. My daily calorie intake ranges from about 1700-4000. Yet I maintain happily. My TDEE is a little above 2500. That gives me at least 17,500 to work with in a week. During the workweek, I typically eat about 2000 a day. That equals about 10,000. So that gives me 7,500 to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday. If I see…
  • Thanks everyone, especially @schillewis‌ - really appreciate the comments :)
  • From looking at your diary, it doesn't look like you use a food scale. If not, it's likely you are eating more calories than you think. (also, sidenote: totally giggled at your Sunday Feb 15 entries. that's my kinda day!!)
  • I went from a 22/24 to an 8/10. With the exception of one pair of pants I wore at my biggest (gotta keep them around for comparison purposes!), I donated everything that is a 16 and above. I kept sizes 12 and 14 - why? If I get pregnant, have a health issue, or some crisis comes up, I accept that I might go up a size. So…
  • I turned that warning off. yes, you're fine if you're over your protein and fat targets. Consider those a minimum goal, and fill the rest of your calories with carbs.
  • I pressure cook big batches and freeze them all the time - I usually have chickpeas and black, pinto, and kidney beans in the freezer at any given time. I dry them well, then just freeze in a large ziploc bag. They don't clump that way.
  • Eat it. Work it into your calories. In fact, work treats (not cheats) into your calories every day if you want this to be enjoyable, sustainable weight loss.
  • Hey, thanks a bunch. I'm still here maintaining, 2.5 years + now :)
  • If it's convenient for me, I slice/peel/stem/core the fruit, then weigh the edible portion. If it's not convenient - for instance, if I am bringing a banana or orange to work with me - I use MFP's default entries (the ones without an asterisk, based on USDA data) and estimate. I have been doing this long enough to know the…
