Use him for workouts. Not diet. Count calories diligently, get enough protein, and eat foods you enjoy to reach a reasonable, sustainable calorie goal. Keep up the strength workouts and do some cardio too. Crazy diets are crazy. - Signed, formerly obese person who lost 130+ pounds and has been maintaining for more than two…

Same here, and it didn't update all weekend either.

There is no better answer. OP, your post is full of excuses. You can probably find excuses for all the other excellent suggestions in this thread, too. But nothing will work until you stop letting the excuses win.

My Fitbit is syncing fine with the Fitbit interface; the sync between Fitbit and MFP hasn't worked properly for a week, though.

The fact that I made a choice to love myself, as I was, before I started losing weight. It is easier to choose healthy foods or hit the gym when you're doing it as a reward, not a punishment. I was awesome when I weighed more than 300 pounds, too - now I'm the same amount of awesome shoved into a smaller body ;) I jest,…

Cook your own food, and it will solve 95% of your sodium overages. The only time I go over is when I eat restaurant food or make Asian food at home (like homemade miso ramen, for example).

Thanks so much, everyone, for all your encouragement!

I've made most of my gym friends before/after group exercise classes - the best place in my opinion. Also, now that I've made so many friends there, it makes the class even more fun. I have also had a lot of conversations while stretching, initiated by me and others. I don't mind if people chat between sets when I'm…

Yep. I really do suggest you get one of those mistos or invest in a nonstick skillet for making pancakes. We make ours on something like the link below, and we don't use any oil at all.…
-
Sorry. Due to the molecular properties of oil, it does not evaporate or "steam" away the way water or other liquids might. If it evaporates at all, it occurs very slowly - much more slowly than it takes to cook a pancake. If you are using a cast iron pan, it is possible that some of the oil is being absorbed into the metal…

What an excellent point.

First of all, I don't think I lost weight all that quickly. I lost an average of under two pounds per week. It was a good clip, but it wasn't an unhealthy pace. Second, I don't know why you're losing more slowly than I did. Your diary is locked so I can't see how much you eat or how accurately you log. Maybe it's because I…
-
Let me tell you how I do it. My MFP and Fitbit are synced. When I exercise in a way that is not just walking, I log my exercise on MFP. That means that I use my HRM, or MFP's estimate, to log it. Fitbit doesn't do a good job "seeing" that you're lifting weights or spinning or doing any other non-step based activity. For…

Since your diary is closed, it's hard to know if you're eating enough.

I love this! Your son's doctor sounds amazing, and I am soooo proud of your son for doing this! He will have a lifetime of adventure ahead of him.

TDEE, kind of. I wrote a blog post about why, and how to calculate it, awhile back. It can be found here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/ShannonMpls/view/tdee-exercise-calories-an-alternate-way-to-customize-mfp-goals-238045

That's really kind of you!! I wish I had the time to add that to the mix, seriously.

Or just EATING! While losing, I took at least one (usually 2-3) days off a month. Those are days you might have called cheat days. I would take them on special occasions, weddings, events, etc. It was so lovely to have a day here and there where I did not log, I ate without thinking of calories, and yes - sometimes I would…

Tara Pope's NYT article "The Fat Trap" was a debbie downer, wasn't it? But look at who she profiled: people who lost their weight eating 700 calories a day of fake Medifast food. Should we be surprised that it's hard to return to normal? Change your definition of normal, and the solution isn't as hard. that's not to say…

Oh, cookie butter. Yes, you're right. It's precisely like nutella. Just a spoonful is fine, right? HA. To be totally honest, I have a hard time having both cookie butter and nutella in the cupboard. Yet....both are presently in the cupboard. And also a 2.5 pound bag of swedish fish. Try to make a rule for yourself: no…

This is actually not a "true fact." This is, at best, a theory (with very little scientific backing).

I love mayo and pb. Just not together. Actually, scratch that. I ordered a burger recently topped with peanut butter, mayo, pepper jack cheese, bacon, and pickles. It was everything.

And I sure hope they balance that with the benefits: There are 400,000 deaths attributable to obesity in the United States each year. Your anecdotes aside, actual scientific research shows that WLS is an effective method for producing weight loss in obese patients in both the short and long term. And WLS is associated with…

Do you actually know anyone who had WLS as a first option? I don't. Also, have you read the actual research on successful outcomes of dieting/exercising vs WLS on the long-term? (spoiler alert: They have a lower risk of gaining it all back than I do).

Am I the only person who finds this incredibly gross? From the patronizing tone, to the ridiculous suggestion that the runner must be paying off a "debt." Maybe the other runner is avoiding the author's gaze because he's a damn creeper who is judging his or her every move? I don't see how this is supposed to make a person…

I'm very sorry to hear about this woman's death. However: 1) A great number of people die each year from complications associated with morbid obesity - heart disease, primarily. (2) Studies have consistently shown that for some people, gastric bypass is a lifesaving surgery. (3) All surgeries carry with them inherent risks…

I feel like this is a trick question. Why are your only options milk and juice...and not water? If you're drinking apple juice, you may as well be having a Coke with breakfast if you prefer it.
