  • I'm so on board with you on this, I can't believe all the absolutist posts. Life isn't like that and weight loss isn't like that. I'm not a clean eater either, but that's not to say that clean eating doesn't work for others or eating a diet of sea urchins and green beans.
  • They all drink Splenda?
  • I think Splenda is being brought up because that's one of the things you mentioned. The point is that doing the best you can is what's important. It's better to eat some things that may not be up to your standard to make this sustainable for life rather than to do a severely restrictive diet that will be forgotten next…
  • You're going to eat a cheeseburger?!!!
  • Then why the diet coke yesterday in your diary? I think any change made to the positive is great and drink my sweet n low tea with great relish. It's much better than the 2 to 3 soft drinks a day I used to drink.
  • Holy sauerkraut, that is back?! Everyone was doing cabbage soup back in the 80's, I lasted about 2 days on it.
  • Hee hee, I didn't notice the original date. There must have been some searching going on.
  • I'm 55 and not old! I know what you mean about the menopause wreaking havoc. I did the BMR and TDEE calculations previously mentioned and am eating 1350 to 1400 cals a day and am 5'2". I think exercise is a key point of getting me through menopause. You don't have to be a workout monster, just do what you can when you can…
  • Super fantastic. I'm so happy for your future self who will live longer and better. Congratulations.
  • I work 4 am to 12:30 and don't eat anything before work. I wait til my lunch break and eat breakfast (around 9) and then eat lunch around 1 when I get off work. I will sometimes eat a Cutie before heading out in the morning, they take less than a minute to peel As far as exercise goes I usually exercise in the evening…
  • Wow, I'm a clinical scientist and the scientist in me loved this article. You have a great way with words and method of getting your point across. Thanks to the OP for posting this link, it's bookmarked for me to refer to for any future stumbles.
  • If you're going to weigh yourself every day you need to do it at the same time and not keep getting on it throughout the day. Also weighing every day you're going to see fluctuations. If it bothers you, you may want to just weigh in once a week.
  • She recommended a minimum of 1200 and no lower, you can definitely go higher. I'm 5'2" and am having success with 1350 and eating back about half of my calories.
  • That's why I just use the cals for egg, large and don't specify how it was cooked. If I were going to Perkins and had a fried egg I would use the fried egg ni.
  • I lost 34 lbs on WW several years ago and got to goal. After putting 22 of that back on I rejoined last year and only lost 2 lbs in 4 months. I find it's easy to fudge the points. You want something to be 3 points instead of 4, then just eat a bit less of it. You might just be cutting out 20 calories, but the way the…
  • Okay, okay, quit nagging... I just updated my gain.
  • Those are fairly high ALT and AST results. Could possibly be from medication. Besides your hypothyroid medication are you taking anything over the counter? Acetaminophen could easily raise your liver enzymes that much.
  • I think it sounds suspicious, especially since the scale is reacting differently. I would just continue on with the scale you just purchased.
  • Durinbie has it right. I pretty much eat the same foods I always have, just make wiser choices and use portion control. You might just start out logging your regular food for a few days. That will help you pinpoint where you need to make changes. I eat 7 grain bread now instead of white and when I have toast it's just one…
  • MFP sets your calorie goal for you based on what you input for your activity, weight, etc. It already has a calorie deficit built in. But I really recommend reading the In Place of a Roadmap thread. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/804485-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12 . I used it to calculate my calorie…
  • DH and I just shared a tuna sub from there yesterday. We usually have it a couple of times a month. I agree that if you don't have a sodium issue and eat within your calories you can easily fit it into your diet.
  • For the longest time my family was convinced they didn't like them, so they were all mine. Recently though they have discovered how good they are so now I have to share. *pout*
  • One of the neighbors with chickens is a crotchety old coot and when I asked him what his chickens names were he looked at me as if I were nuts. If I had chickens they would be my girls too.
  • And ICE CREAM!!
  • Great discussion everyone and some good ideas. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do if a resolution isn't reached, will play it by ear. On the egg side of it our city recently passed a regulation allowing a limited number of citizens to raise laying hens. So now our next door neighbor and one across the street have…
  • Hi Thomas, welcome to the MFP community. I think no matter your gender, weight, age or other preferences you'll find what you need here. I just ignore the threads that aren't pertinent to me and get help from those that are. I'm sending you a friend request.
  • I try to reserve half of my calories for later in the day for the same reason. But the time I really overeat and then feel like crap is when I get overly hungry.
  • And BTW here's a study on the cancerous effect of aspartame. But as was previously said you can find a study on the toxicity of almost anything. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1392232/
  • I personally use Sweet n Low in my tea, just try to limit how much I use daily. I have no research, but one of the pathologists I work with is convinced that aspartame is tied in with the increase in neuroblastomas in recent years. But who the heck knows. If you like the sweetener you use then just go with it, I would just…
