That men can count calories too; it isn't just for girls!

I especially get this after very intense work-outs, eg, swimming three miles two days in a row. I used to think that exercise was making me over tired and thus more susceptible to colds, but my doctor said it is a form of vasomotor rhinitis, in this context also called exercise-induced rhinitis. There's a couple of…

Practiced with the swim team at my gym today. First time I've done a team practice since Freshman year in high school 41 years ago. Let's see if I can remember what we did: 500 warm-up 10x50 kicking. 3x200 progressive 8x75, breathing every 3rd, 5th, 7th breath 3x200 12x50 12x25 200 cool-down 3,900 yards total in team…

Wow, I never noticed that before. Very cool.

Not to mention 400 yards of Butterfly. Very impressive work-out, Logan!

My kids started calling me 'fluffy bunny' a few years ago, but were quick to explain that this referred to my chest hair and not my weight. Not sure if they were back peddling a bit so as not to hurt my feelings, but the name stuck. They like to cuddle a lot.

Glad to hear you're taking care of everything so well. I took three days off this week because I was tired after swimming 8 miles last week and the rest really helped. When I got back in the pool this morning, at first it felt like my arms were made of wood, but before long I was swimming faster and stronger than ever. The…

I like your coach's relative definition of 'sprints'. I was thinking of that this morning as I sprinted my last mile.

3 miles, approximately 95 minutes.

I definitely think you should stick with the running. Half-marathon was my favorite distance before major foot surgery ended running for me. When you do not have access to a gym, you may want to look into Mark Lauren's book, "You Are Your Own Gym". Here's a thread by hanymamdouh, who has had great success with this…

I used to have this at swim practice when I was in high school. My doctor said it was "exercise-induced asthma." I still get it sometimes, but not nearly as bad nor as frequently. I now much more frequently get 'exercise-induced rhinitis', which basically feels like a bad head-cold after very intense work-outs. A friend of…

Thanks for the reponses. What about month-to-month? Have you pretty much continued to lose about the same amount of weight each month or has this begun to slow down? Do you get plenty of sleep with such an arduous 2x/day work-out schedule? Do you increase the intensity/weight/resistance/time of your work-outs over time or…

Definitely fcus on fitness first, regardless of whether you decide to loose more weight or not. Are you interested in any other sports besides running, eg, swimming, diving, golf, yoga, etc?

They are not at all accurate. I've seen fluctuations of 15% BF from one day to the next. One of the reasons for the variation is dehydration after intense work-outs so you may get more consistency if you always weigh yourself after or before heavy work-outs, but I typically don't pay any attention to these scales.…

Excellent progress! Is their a typo above? November 2014 to April 2014 is only six months? Perhaps it was November 2012 or 2013?
-
Excellent progress. Keep it up! Two questions, if I may: 1) Has your rate of weight loss slowed over time or are you still losing about the same amount every month? 2) Going to the gym twice a day, every day? Or do you take rest days to let your body rebuild? Ever any issues with chronic fatigue or overtraining?

What are some of the more glaring errors? I suppose one of them is the need for so many carbs for the body to function. What about some of the others?
-
Thanks. I gotta try this.

Definitely ease into it. You won't be able to do much at first anyway. It is a hard stroke to swim and you should have a coach if you want to do it right. Only do it when you have a lane to yourself, but don't worry too much about splashing people in the next lane--after all, they are in a pool so they should expect to get…

As a Freshman in high school, one of the popular kids insisted that I go out for the swimming team 'cause he didn't like being the only Freshman on the team. I talked another friend of mine to come along that night--we were both smokers, but we figured swimming was not hard. After all, I had taken swimming lessons as a…

If your goal is to greater health and fitness, not to mention happiness, rather than merely to lose weight, you will need to give up both food and alcohol addictions. There's so much more to embrace in life that will bring true happiness than there is to let go of, things which do not bring true happiness. Let go of the…

We're talking about endurance so why only a quarter keg?

3 miles continuous.

I am no expert about ketosis, but I did come across a quote today that leads me to wonder if the weight-loss gains from swimming in a fasted state might be much greater than a 5% improvement. http://www.reddit.com/r/keto/comments/12amhq/keto_calculator_20/c6vvu7f?context=3 Obviously, this is not a way to cheat CICO, but…

I would find a friend who kayaks or canoes. Seriously, be very careful.

As long as you go into it prepared stop if you feel any pain, it doesn't hurt to give it a try. Take it easy, listen to your body, and have fun. If at any point it stops being fun, call it a learning experience and pat yourself on the back for being wise and wonderful.

So sorry to hear this, cluffgirl. I hope you have some good emotional support to help you through this time.

Excellent progress!! Tell us more about that time when you started to resemble Sponge Bob. Was that mostly water retention? As for needing motivation, have you found an exercise or sport that you truly enjoy? I find that weight loss works best when the goal is not merely a number on a scale but secondary to other goals.…

Maybe. But, remember, this thread is about our goals for 2105. If I succeed in doing a 10k continuous in 2105, I think that will be pretty good.

You're 38% of the way there and the year is only 30% of the way over. Woohoo!
