I think it's very possible. When you are running you are using the entire body and it's in motion. So you will burn more calories doing this vice doing any other cardio workout. Running is the fastest way to drop the weight quickly, but it is also tough on your back and knees.

1200 calories is way too low for me. I am usually around 2000 or more a day. You have to feed your body with good clean food to drop the weight.

I don't give up any food, I just don't eat it every day and I change the time that I eat it now. For example, I love Nachos. Instead of eating them for dinner, I will have them for lunch. It gives me enough time to burn them off before I go to bed, and now I only eat them once a month vice every dang night. :-)

I have taken a lot of different whey protein over the years, but the best protein are your whole protein, fish, chicken, turkey and tuna. Yes, you should lift weights and do many different abs exercises. The more muscle you can develop the more your body will shed the fat. Stick to you low calorie diet and you will see your mid section in no time.

I eat 3 to 4 Pure Protein bars a day. Since you don't eat breakfast I would eat the bar then, and you could also eat another one after your workout.

I hate to run. I do sprints instead. It's a lot easier on you joints and you still get your heart rate up to burn that unwanted fat.
