Don't worry your weight will fluctuate anyway during dieting. But I can see from your diary that you are definitely heading in the right direction so I am very confident you will make it. It is fine to go over on the odd day. Your tummy may look bigger after a meal - just natural - but it doesn't mean you have put on…

I have been a vegetarian for seven years and it has become an important part of my life. So long as you watch your carbs and eat sensibly a vegetarian diet is a great way to care for yourself and the planet. My cholesterol level decreased when I became a vegetarian (but not my weight). That took MFP.

I can't totally tell you why but I used to get breathless on runs but I don't any more. I think it is just a question of pushing your fitness up gradually. On hills when you start off it is a good idea to take it slowly. And really good advice not to look up to the top of the hill. Just think a few steps ahead of where you…

Yes definitely, when I am anxious or worried about things I eat more. I certainly used to nibble at any time day and night - bit like chain smoking but I don't smoke. This is now more under control but I still start looking around for stuff to eat when I am feeling bad.

Firstly welcome to the site. Great that you found it and I am sure you will meet your targets. Yes the body does change as you get older but we are all individuals and it is not that you suddenly wake up and your metabolism has changed. Everyone is different changes take place over a period of years. I must say that I am…

Welcome and good luck! It worked for me.

Pulses are great, or tofu if you like it. Egg white and milk too. Decrease stuff with really high carbs like white rice etc
-
Normally after but if you are taking lots of exercise or a long run then you do need something first too
-
It is the fats and cholesterol that people worry about but yes salt too. However eaten in moderation ...

Yes definitely I have had off periods and downs - times I could not get the motivation to exercise. Exercise definitely helps with anxiety - also you can try meditation (takes time and can make things worse at first) Currently I am flagging too but have kept up the exercise somehow

Keep your spirits up! It is really hard to overcome any addiction but everyone here will be with you. Logging on here is the first step it means you have decided to do something. I think a support group is a good idea too but you can do it. Just need to really start believing it!

Apples works for me. Give up something else as well as candy it is easier to give up two or three things than one then if you fail, fail on the ones that don't matter. I did this few years back with cigarettes, chocolate and meat. Ended up quitting all three for good.

Well you have made a start - so you definitely care! The only way I can ever get over my own obsessions is simply to let them go by channeling my energy a different way. Once you start some exercise and dieting it will get much easier. Good luck!

Be patient it can take a week or two to get going. Exercise as well as dieting and so long as you are in calorie deficit the pounds will start disappearing. This site has definitely helped me - so keep up the good work and it will work out! No pun intended

Celery or carrot if raw. Sugar snap peas can also be eaten raw and taste great

Couch to 5K - a running program for beginners that is all I know.

Also I think for kidney function because if you are losing weight your body produces more wastes and these need to be eliminated. Drinking water helps in doing this and thus oils the wheels of weight loss so to speak. Anyway that is my understanding of it.

Yes I have had this though not in the morning. Lemon with hot water or herbal tea. Lemon does contain vitamin C and makes great tea.

If you are running 50 mins per day firstly well done that is an amazing achievement. I have found that the way you measure your calorie burn on a run can make a big difference. The figures from my Garmain, MFP and runtastic.com website all vary a load. I have been using the figures from the Garmain monitor which were…

Eggs aren't dairy - no lactose

Soya protein or egg whites are good to add protein. I tend to be like you carbs are tempting for snacks, have tried with mixed success to replace with fruit. Good luck.

500 calories is worryingly low! Add fat into your diet that will start to help raise the calories. Snacks too are a good idea spread out the eating. Good luck
-
Hi Carrie I tend to be low on calories too. Due to vegetarian diet plus low fat. MFP actually led to me eating more bulk wise But cutting down on cakes. So my diet has better balance now also I have lost weight I think regular running has helped there

I can't stand the insipid processed stuff but the real yogurt is great - love it. Also love soya yogurt - amazing.
-
Yes I agree it can be hard increasing once you have got used to eating a certain amount. Spread out the additional food and look for one or two things with more calories in to supplement your diet.
-
I love running too - but never ran anything more than a half marathon - how did you train for it? I am full of admiration for anyone that runs a marathon. Good luck BTW
-
You have done amazingly to lose 40 pounds. I have problems keeping my carbs down too. I like soya yogurt and sometimes eat eggs for breakfast, when I have these things my carb balance is better. Interesting to see your other responses. Thanks for posting.

Over some days and under on others is fine. Say you ate a load one day - you don't have to automatically reduce the next. Remember how you do long term is down to not one or two days but what is going on over a period of time. Sometimes when I exercise I am miles under my goal but it does not mean I am in starvation mode…

Me too. But for me the only way is to cut addictive stuff like chocolate out completely - and breakfast cereal would really get me going too. Then I eat simple foods instead or fruit (you can safely eat loads of that)

My wife often eats different meals to me because I am a vegetarian and she is not. Obviously it is more hassle cooking two different meals but mainly I eat the same as her but without the meat. Then I add something like beans etc. Over the years, however, she has eaten more vegetarian food - just cos she likes to do the…
