  • Sounds yummy, but how does all this cream, butter, oil etc not blow one's calorie budget?
  • Thank you CoconuttyMummy & AngInCanada! I certainly do feel "chuffed to bits" ! (had to look that one up in a UK slang dictionary!)
  • I struggled with this myself. All during my childhood, my father would tell me that eating high fat would clog my arteries & make me fat. There's just too much evidence to the contrary now. But we can NOT eat anything without limit, calories DO matter. I find that lower carbs is good for blood glucose, and eating fat adds…
  • I've been eating ~100 grams carbs/day for several months & losing 4-5 lbs/month. I'm able to eat this on a fairly regular basis (13 grams carb, 4 grams sugar alcohol, 4 grams fiber) http://www.breyers.com/product/detail/113881/no-sugar-vanilla and maintain my weight loss.

  • I've been at moderate low carb (~100 grams/day) and losing ~1 lb/week. In the last 2 weeks, I've done 3 fasts each lasting ~40 hours. My rate of weight loss has increased to 1.5 lb/week. I intend to keep this up the rest of the month and re-evaluate.
  • Sugar is not a poison. Even diabetes experts tell their patients to forget about counting sugars and just count total carbs, unless they are taking insulin where knowing your sugars as well as complex carbs is necessary for figuring out a correct dose. [/quote] Sugars are carbs. Counting carbs is best. I've been shocked to…
  • I got serious with MFP back in February when I was told I was pre-T2D. I knew I needed to cut my carbs. I discovered the Low Carber's group here at MFP - a great bunch of knowledgeable and supportive people. I'm finding that I'm able to stick to a moderately low carb, higher fat eating style more easily than with other…
  • Check out the Low Carber Daily group, right here on MFP. Great bunch of supportive & knowledgeable people. I've been eating low carb, high fat for several months now, and losing about 5 lbs/month. My blood pressure & blood glucose are down in addition to my weight. It is a shocker to feel permission to eat fat after being…
  • 35 lb lose
  • For those that are stir-frying, do you cook your cauliflower rice & THEN add to stir fry, or put the raw cauli-rice right in with the other ingredients? The one time I made cauli-rice, I roasted it on a baking sheet, kind of a pain, but came out fine.
  • I'm 37 hours into this week's fast right now, planning on breaking fast at lunch today with my wife at our favorite Indian restaurant - their buffet in this state could be dangerous! Last time I fasted into the 2nd day, the 2nd morning was pretty easy, but this time I feel light headed & a bit dizzy, but thankfully, hunger…
  • I also made a grain-free granola which was terrific. Mine was sugar-free, I added erythritol to the heated coconut oil - based on this recipe: https://minimalistbaker.com/simple-grain-free-granola/
  • I agree with Keith - track your carbs, and measure your glucose!
  • My latest low-carb treat is chia seed pudding. I use liquid sucralose as a sweetener. I've used both unsweetened cocoa & also pumpkin pie type spices as flavorings. Easy and delicious. I sometimes eat this for breakfast to break the monotony of eating eggs almost every day.…
  • I made this a few weeks ago, and came out pretty good. Just need to roll the dough thin. http://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/2012/07/cinnamon-faux-st-crunch-cereal-3.html
  • Stevia tastes terrible. I like.erythritol. Very much like sugar.
  • Tried whipping up coconut cream with berries. Tastes great, but too many calories.
  • A wimpy 80-100 total carb grams for me. I like my occasional oatmeal, beans, fruit & Quest bar. Been managing to lose ~4 lbs/month. Good to know I've got room for more carb reduction if cravings or endless plateaus become a problem.
  • One chapter of my life that gave me tremendous pride & pleasure was starting and directing a jazz acapella group. That group was called "Drawn To Scale", 3 women & 3 men. We sang in the Boston area from 1995 - 2000.
  • I thought there was only blue cheese dressing ....? :)
  • I'm in! Your current weight: 198 (just returned to onderland 2 weeks ago!) Your Fast/Feed Schedule: Include how many days per week you plan to do this: One fast per week. This will be a ~35 hour fast. No snacks after 8pm the day before the fast. BPC the morning of the fast, and no eating the rest of the day. Eat breakfast…
  • Thank you very much for this link!
  • Just did my first fast (45 hour, with coffee, tea & broth) last week. It was easier than I was expecting, and it got the scale moving again. I plan on another one tomorrow, and hopefully continue once per week.
  • Less cravings for treats, more energy, less knee pain, less heart palpitations, improved (but not yet eliminated!) acid reflux.
  • Just now, I completed my first fast. I went 45 hours, put some fat in my morning coffee, drank tea & broth, and it wasn't as difficult as I had feared. I think Dr. Fung's message of LCHF eating and IF rings true to me. I'm currently eating 70-100 grams of carbs/day, which is considered moderate LC. Ketogenic is less than…
  • Sounds like you may be insulin resistant. Read Dr. Jason Fung's work. Eat low-carb, high-fat. Consider intermittent fasting. http://www.dietdoctor.com/the-perfect-treatment-for-diabetes-and-weight-loss
  • I've been reading & watching Dr. Fung for about a month. His message rings true & clear to me, and I just tried a "semi-fast" to see how it feels. Right now, I've had ~300 calories (some BPC & broth) in the last 38 hours and its much easier than I was expecting. I plan on joining our own DittoDan and try doing this on a…
  • Sometimes I feel a small thrill when I feel hungry - I'm thinking that weight loss is happening, and I don't want to disturb that! Also, I feel that a lot of hunger is psychological, and will pass if you distract yourself. Also - carbs tend to make you hungry later on - cut down on carbs - even "healthy" whole grains. Eat…
  • You're inspiring Dan! I was just learning more about intermittent fasting, as you practice. Sounds like there's a LOT more benefit than just the loss of caloies - it really helps to reduce insulin resistance, which in turn helps reduce obesity. I think I'm going to give it a try. This guy Dr Jason Fung is very interesting:…
