I LOVE alcohol. But I have given up my love affair for the sake of my health. I drink rarely now, enjoy it very much , and always end up saying "what the heck" for the evening and scarfing down a load of carby stuff

A good summary here http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/drinking-eight-glasses-of-water-a-day-is-healthy-right-wrong-803993.html Of course our body needs water. It's the arbitrary forcing down of 8 + glasses a day ( in addition to all other liquids consumed ) that is a big old pile of…

Ha, true! In the UK we conventionally use stones and pounds and it is always a joy to crack through the barrier into the next stone down
-
Just think about it. It makes no intuitive sense whatsoever that the body would require you to chug down several large glasses a day over and above your requirements. it's a man made myth, an a recent one at that. It just makes you pee more. THe body is a finely tuned machine, and has its own mechanism to ensure you drink…

I love tinned chicken, and would slice some up with some salady bits

PB67, you beat me to it! Yes, it's a myth. same with "to flush out toxins" Utter rubbish

at 135 and 5'4" i was a 32 J. In the uk we are fortunate to have the most wondertful large size bra specialist shop and I had lots of great bras that I am looking forward to wearing again. I hit 190 recently and my breasts are just preposterous. I can't wait for them to shrink.

sounds like it's working well for you. It actually makes a lot of sense. Keep up the good work

are you losing weight?
-
Can someone point me in the direction of scientific studies that show " eating first thing kick starts your metabolism" ? Intuitively , it makes no sense whatsoever but it is oft repeated as fact.
-
If it works for you and you're losing weight as predicted, keep going.

And to paraphrase your quote, i have always said "whoever says nothing tastes as good as slim feels never tried my mum's cooking" My mum got ill and died earlier this year. I was completely crushed and it has changed me forever. I ate and drank to stuff down the pain , and am finally doing something about the mess I made…

Great post formicaman. yes I feel that way a lot. I have incorporated it into my new motto " You have two choices. 1) Give up 2)Keep going

It is such a relief to see so much sense on this thread . So much nonsense is written about "starvation mode" Try googling SM , and your computer will suggest "Starvation mode myth" with many excellent links

I'm the same heigh and have set 132 as my goal. I would be thrilled to be 140! You know how to do it. There are no secrets or shortcuts. How much have you lost so far?

It's not proper food. That's all that matters. i can't believe people are suckered in by stuff like that.

You don't really need to ask . Of course it does
-
sdokeefe, there is NO foodstuff in the world that will make you gain more weight in bodyfat than the weight of the foodstuff itself. In case you did not get it first time around, THERE IS NO FOODSTUFF IN THE WORLD THAT WILL MAKE YOU GAIN MORE WEIGHT IN BODYFAT THAN THE WEIGHT OF THE FOODSTUFF ITSELF. Now do you understand?
-
very well put

there are some problems that can't be fixed by chucking money at them. RIP Steve

great post. I'm astonished at how many people still believe you have to cram down 8 big glasses of water a day whether you're thirsty or not. so obviously nonsense intuitively
