Eat more. Anything less than 1500 calories per day for women is starvation...contrary to what MFP says.

My trainer told to increase the calories I eat every day. I did that and it made a difference. My body fat percent went down which it hasn't for a long, long time. Don't know how many calories to recommend but you may want to look at whether you're eating enough.

I have a very good friend who had surgery. He's lost quite a bit of weight but has now stalled. Every day I see him coming in after lunch with a bag of fast food. I rarely eat fast food. In the end, I will bet money that he will always be overweight and I won't because I exercise and eat good food. BTW, since I'm a 50+…

If you use a strapless one you have to periodically put your fingers on the contacts to read your heart rate. Thus, it doesn't measure heart rate and calories for the entire duration of your excercise. I use a Timex RaceTrainer when I'm in the gym and love it. When I'm outside riding my bike, I use a Garmin Forerunner so I…

Something to think about... I'm much more motivated if I set a goal that relates to physical strength instead of focusing on losing weight. For example, I LOVE to cycle. Each year I set a goal to put in a certain number of miles on the bike (and it increases year over year) and to increase my average speed by at least a…

I'm a numbers/graphs geek, too. I religiously record my mileage on bike rides and calories burned during other exercise. It motivates me to be able to look back and see how many miles I rode in a year.

Worry about your own workout and not what others are wearing! Going to the gym shouldn't have to be a fashion show and no one should judge someone else's choices!

Why do you care what other people are doing while on the treadmill? Worry about your own workout and not about what others are doing.

I use a Timex Road Trainer HRM. I usually burn about 700 calories in a spinning class but that is working as hard as I can the entire time.

In the old days before IPODS, etc., the gym was a social place for me. I don't mean that I annoyingly talked while people were trying to work out. It was just a matter of seeing the same people frequently and making a comment or saying hi to each other as we moved between weights or walked to class. Now days the gym just…

Try Larry Scott's protein shakes. I think the vanilla is very good. You can order it at www.larryscott.com

Love my Timex Road Trainer. When I'm riding my bike I use a Garmin Forerunner 305 which includes GPS. Love them both.

I think anything that gets your heart beating faster is "effective cardio".
