  • Got about six miles in this morning - first run since last Thursday. 24 hours to vacation (not that I'm counting), so hope to run regularly next week (in Canada, where it's not so @#$%^ hot).
  • Missed my run this morning. Pulled something in my back yesterday and I can hardly bend over to tie my shoes. Maybe tomorrow.
  • Doubling your running time is sort of asking for injury. I would suspect plantar fasciitis too. Take ibuprofen morning and night, try freezing a water bottle and rolling your foot on it, the boot thing may be really helpful, but since finances are an issue, just stretch it out a lot. Stay off it as much as you can, and get…
  • Six miles today in a light rain. It was actually kind of refreshing.
  • It depends on what your goals are. If you are simply looking to lose weight, long and slow may be a better way to go. If you want to pick up some speed, you need to work on adding the run part to your walk/jog/run work out. If you always run at 11 minute pace, you will always run at 11 minute pace. Try throwing in some 1-2…
  • Best thing is to get running buddies. Nothing gets me out of bed better than knowing people will be waiting on me. No run for me today - P90X plyometrics instead. Just as well - intense thunderstorm and tornado warnings - not a great day for running out doors.
  • Got six miles in this morning. Fairly slow - wasn't feeling it today. I have been in a 'logging in' slump the past week as well, but I found after logging religiously for so many months, I have a pretty good idea of what I should be eating and where my calorie count and carbs/protein have been without having to log it…
  • When I am training for a 1/2, I tend to run more miles than the programs recommend. When you have several good 15 miles runs under your belt, 13.1 doesn't seem intimidating at all:laugh: If your long runs are already 'long enough', if you enjoy them and don't have any injury issues that signal you should be easing up, I…
  • SIx mile tempo run in this morning. Lots of entertaining posts to come home to. Good day all around.
  • Something that keeps my mind occupied on long runs / races is, once I have found my stride / rhythm and am running comfortably, I pick out a runner 50-100 yards ahead of me that is moving about the same pace and try to catch them before the next bridge / mile marker / whatever. You will have to push yourself to make up the…
  • I don't think it's whining to complain about people being 15 minutes late for a run. People have jobs to get to, kids to take care of, places to be, not to mention if you have been running for half an hour and you are supposed to pick someone up and end up standing around, it really messes up your run. It's just…
  • Tuesday is supposed to be my 'speed' day, but got up this morning at 5 AM and it was already 85 degrees and 90% humidity. Left the GPS at home and just wore my heart monitor ; ran about 6 miles pacing off my heart rate instead.
  • Six mile run this morming -supposed to be tempo - with the heat and humidity, the group sort of fell into "long run" pace, but, you know, some days, you're thankful for that:wink: P90 X tonight.
  • Got a 6 miles tempo run in this morning. It's getting too hot and humid to do track work, even at 6AM:grumble: Becky, I would agree on your priority; work on your distance first to get your stamina, add in hills to build your strength, and worry about speed later. It will come soon enough as your endurance and strength…
  • Great job!!:drinker: :flowerforyou: :drinker: :flowerforyou: :drinker:
  • On my first round, I did the 'classic' routine, and fit my running in whenever, usually on a stretch or yoga day. This time I am doing the 'doubles' schedule, substituting the cardio X work out with my running. When you do that, you do leg work outs on running days. Seems to be working well so far (it is easier doing the…
  • No run today. After a 7 miler yesterday followed by P90X leg workout, my butt is still sore! So - did Kenpo X and some Wii Fit with the kids. Shuntae, if you can already run 4 miles, you have enough 'base' to be plenty strong enough to train for a 1/2 Marathon by October. Kechie has already given you some good advice. Go…
  • Good job, Becky and Christine:flowerforyou: :drinker: :flowerforyou: :drinker: You know, you can't help but feel really proud when you have a really good race. Last year I won a dorky little trophy for placing in my age group in a 10 K, and that thing sat on display until Christmas time. Got 7.25 miles in this…
  • Haven't had time to post lately. Ran 5.5 Tuesday and Thursday, and have been doing P90X everyday. Sherry,- sorry to hear about your stress fracture:frown: If you can't run for 8 weeks, can you do non-impact stuff, like elliptical or spinning to maintain your cardio fitness? Hope you're feeling better soon.
  • GOt 5.5 miles in this morning. Tempo seems to have slowed down since the heat and humidity kicked in, but it was a good run anyway.
  • Jess! You ROCK! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: Congratulations :flowerforyou: Mary - good job on your first 5K. :flowerforyou: Ab ripper X / Yoga X for me today - maybe some pool time this afternoon if I can drag the kids from their video games.
  • Yes, you should take a rest day, let your body recover and heal. Maybe some stretching or a short walk, but nothing heavy duty. Your body will thank you for it.
  • I run three days a week, usually before breakfast. Runs under 60-90 minutes I usually only have 8 oz of water or Gatorade when I get up. Runs over 90 minutes, I may have a banana or some toast or waffles, nothing too heavy. I usually follow my runs with a big breakfast, cereal with skim milk, scrambled eggs (egg beaters),…
  • Congrats on your first race. It isn't so much about finishing well, it's that you got out there and did it ; that is the accomplishment. Keep up the good work!
  • The big thing is to cool down properly and get a good stretch in after your run. make sure you are hydrated well. Have some carbs with some protein (4:1 ratio is best) shortly after your run to help with muscle recovery. You can try the body-builder's trick of taking glutamine supplements. It really does help with that…
  • Hi Jess, good luck with the triathlon.:flowerforyou: On week 1 of second round of P90X. Doing doubles, using my run days instead of cardio X, so keeping busy here.
  • Had to cut the usual run short today, only got 4 miles in, but it was still a good run.
  • It goes without saying that you have to work on your hydration all week long, not just on your running days. Sports drinks are great on run days because the electrolytes enhance the water uptake, so you don't feel like you're sloshing around during your run. You are supposed to drink it full strength, but if I know I am…
  • No run today - got plyo X done this morning
  • OK, I'll bite. What is Sassy water?
