Just checking - are we using the 'woo' as 'yee hah' or as 'rubbish' in this group?! ?! It has always been a positive group without the snide stuff you get in a lot of the forums - where 'woo' is most nearly always intended as 'rubbish'! We have a fair few 'woo' s creeling in - but given the above I am determindly reading…

Aubergine and red kidney bean casserole .., Chickpea added to many chicken dishes - eg chicken, fennel and chickpea casserole (or rather chickpea and fennel casserole with a bit of chicken!) Lentils alongside or instead of mince in - shepherd's or cottage pie, lasagne etc Refried bean in tortilla wraps Lentil and egg…

I had a horrible time on mine - lots of pain - and insisted it was taken out pronto. Still got chronoc fatige ( reaction to the mirena or all those antibiotics for the suspect infections?) ... Not the same symptoms -but I would consider getting assertive about having it removed if you are not getting the benefits.., Good…

There is some growing interest (University research) into inulin - found in veggies like leeks and you can buy as a supplement - and its role in helping the body regulate its sleep hormones. (It is coming out if the body of 'proper' research into gut bacteria and their impact on health - as opposed to 'woo'! But I guess I…

I agree with the 'make your own pizza' route - lots of veggie topping, a small amount of strong cheddar and some ham. Simple to do. Delicious and not a big calorie hit. Oven baked breaded fish and chips is not so bad calorie wise and certainly better than the take away deep fry (er, can you tell I'm a Brit!). I get Lots of…

It is great that you have a job that keeps you on your feet and moving around. Regardless of your weight I bet you are a lot more healthy! I would (in addition to checking that your eating is as you think it is, and pulling back on the take aways etc) get a little more informed about burning calories... Mfp overestimates…

Well - I went to the pool atleast.. Picked a really bad time - just as they closed all but one of the lanes (for swim club / lessons erc) and so it was just one widish stretch of the pool for all the kids having a splash, any adults trying to swim or pose. Etc etc. Total dogems. I gave up after 10 mins and went to the deep…

Mmm hopefully you will get some answers on swim workout notation over the weekend - it passes me all by! Sounds like you are already doing the right stuff for endurance - gradually build up length of swims / reduce the rests, and drop the speed or go for a less intensive stroke. But it is a good idea tp add sprinting to…

As you say .... Find more fodmap treats (and every day food too). I have had to be on Fodmap before....to be fair, there are lot of things you can eat.....So maybe it's Time to get creative and knowledgeable about what you CAN do! (Rather than spend too much time thinking about what you can't... ) Good luck

I get a weekly veg box (with some dairy and eggs/bread) and every 2 months or so I stuff my cupboards and freezer - with everything from quick and easy (pasta, jar of pesto sauce - just add some peas and a salad ), to lazy treat (frozen breaded fish and oven chips) to proper food (meat joints, minced meat, fish steaks).…

I was told to concentrate on 'kicking' from my thighs and let everything below that be pretty loose...especially ankles. (To move your thighs with any power you naturally tighten the abdominals.) Perhaps calling it kicking is misleading - maybe it is thunder-thighing ?! Is it power up and down, or push one way and relax…

750m of various swimming pootling for 30mins It was good to discover another new quiet swimming slot - 3-4pm. Now this did take some mental determination (I am usually in bed 2- 3 ish, and I don't exactly spring out if it....) but there again, it is another sign of gradual improvement in my boring old CFS that I even…

Just a thought - but if you walked that hound before work (or before bed weekdays or whatever) - you could add some more activity to your life. Being over weight is not good. But being under excercised is really bad for you - your health , your self esteem, your mood, your calories used up etc. Why not aim for one midweek…

Yep - my first 1k in a very long time. (It also took a rather long time to do it...!) The pool was fairly full - and the only space was to join in with the fast lane chap. I managed a couple of lengths before bobbing back over to the very wide (think circle lane for 4-5 people wide) lane to do all my drills...but I was…

Another person who adds lentils to soups and cottage / shephers's pie. I quite often make boiled egg and lentil curry - easy one pot cooking and very tasty. I also boil orange lentils down with some onion and a bayleaf to a good 'mush' and add strong cheese. And use this as a cauliflower (and potato and carrot) cheese…

Try slices of raw or cooked betroot with lots of mint - and yoghurt too if you want. Very good combo. Or 'pop' lots of mustard seeds in a small amount hot oil and pour over matchsticks of raw betroot. Delicious. Or add cooked beets to corn beef hash - fab Or use in chocolate cake (honest!)

Another cfs/me person who benefitted from pacing and also very gradual graded exercise ...swimming for me. Very measurable. Very good for the cfs and the mind - and weight loss. So don't rule exercise out - but find your baseline and go very gently. Mssg me if you'd like more guidance. I worked out my (modest 10lb or so)…

Do you often shout at people who are trying to help you?

Maybe try other strong flavoured sweet things (ie not just dark chocolate) so a little goes a long way - crystallised ginger, chinese sweet dried plums (which are fantastic), or even covered brazil nut or raisins (go easy on the portion control!!)

I'm a shop as little as possible person I get (good quality, much better than supermarket) veg and fruit box weekly - with some eggs, milk and yoghurt. And that keeps me eating lots of veg. And once every month or two my cupboards and freezer get filled to bursting point (including bread mixes) from the online supermarket.…

Great swimming folks - special congrats to UmmSqueaky!! First sesh back in the pool after a few weeks long CFS spike (grrr). Prob just only c500m or so. Easing back in.... But at least I discovered the Sunday morning session is fine numbers wise, and I got my 13 year old girl there too.

'It's going to be hard to confront the wife' Yep - sure is. I suggest you talk with her instead... (oh and offer to help) Sorry to point this out but you are coming over as a bit controlling...and hard on everyone around you. (I can do it too...) Telling people what to do is rarely the answer....but pursuading them might…

Jump on in. There are so many different body shapes and swimming abilities at the pool - and no one gives two hoots. You will be surprised how much better your swimming is, as someone who learnt properly, than most people's... You could of course delberately pick a time - eg a family session or no lanes session - just to…

Water 'jogging' is good (you 'run' in the water but in the deep end so your feet are not on the ground) So is swimming of course! Lots of pools have beginner/refresher/improver lessons - in the uk at least - if you are not so confident or want more motivation. These really helped me get much more out if swimming - and you…

Wow some great swims going on. I think I would find a 'lanes across' olympic pool so frustrating....do they ever put the ropes the 'right' way so people can enjoy the stretch of water Yosemite? (I still miss my 33m pool which was pulled down and replaced nearby with 25m....and occasionally get to a 50m one)

It certainly helped me make an everyday stroll with the dog much faster!

I saw the programme too and found it interesting (tho overstated). For those who didn't, it is research based so atleast there is an attempt at latest research results om which to base your opininion! Anyway I downloaded the Active 10 app the NHS has recently created - that is promoting the same approach. It tells you how…

I did it - to help with IBS that was part of my CFS. It is not so bad. It made me feel i was being proactive and it certainly helped ease the IBS Both cfs and ibs have gotten better - tho i am still impacted by cfs. I stopped the fodmap - once the ins had calmed enough to no longer concern me.

Glad you are doing better !

Well done Yosemite, that sounds a great goal Curly. And I am wryly amused at even you finding the trainkng programmes hard Emmab! Anyway - still finding the webbing on my feet after my long gap. So another 850m swim, in 31 mins - this time pretty continual swimming. And a 'sprint' at the end - 50m frontcrawl in 66 secs. I…
