  • Beetroot is also really good raw… Finely chop into thin matchsticks (or grate?) and then coat with yoghurt/salt/pepper and lots of ‘popped’ mustard seeds (Ie fried in oil) Or try with seasoned yoghurt and lots of mint (this one works better with cooked beetroots, but can be for raw too). I made a fab beetroot and orange…
  • It can be difficult - especially if the food is delicious, cooked with love etc etc So last time 2 months meant 10lbs perhaps 2 lbs of which was water weight (I agree with the suggestion to wait a week after you come back before weighing yourself ..) So one month is potentially 4 lbs or roughly 1 pound a week, or 3500 too…
  • Hello - not vegetarian or from an Indian background, sorry - and I hope you find some folks who are. However a few thoughts - some people seem to struggle more with lowering carbs than others (brown rice is low GI so for many of us it ‘keeps you fuller for longer’) so perhaps be open to the idea that lowering calories…
  • A lot of ‘me too’ here plus I use yoghurt mixed with an egg and seasoning as the ‘béchamel sauce’ for lasagne - sometime with a light covering of grated strong cheddar or Parmesan cheese…
  • I’ve bought mainly organic (fruit/veg) and/or free range (meat) for years - for a number of reasons Yes taste - a lot tastes so so much better. Enjoy those eggs! (I supplement with non organic and yes generally you can tell) Kindness - I find much mass production in the near industry cruel Convenience - that veg box…
  • I’m British - I don’t think about produce as a noun at all… I think ‘fruit and veg’ for ‘fruit and veg’ and misread ‘produce’ entirely to make it a more commonly used noun over here. Well, I think it is a general UK language thing … but may be just a my family thing? I’ve lived in the Sates so my mistake is even more…
  • For ages I never read this thread as I misread it as ‘for the love of products’ … duh. I’ve been enjoying dipping into it now though. Though I still don’t think of fruit and veg as ‘produce’ let alone ‘products’! Anyway my first post on the thread is to celebrate my daughter (18) who made supper tonight - a substantial…
  • And if you buy high welfare (free range etc) chicken - every bit of it tastes so much better, with much more flavour….it is definitely worth the extra money on taste grounds alone IMO.
  • I lost my extra baby weight through keeping up the breast feeding - by the time your lovely baby (congratulations!) is guzzling away in great quantities, you are likely to find this is nature’s way of helping you slim down again. So I suggest you rely on this mentally and don’t worry about calories so much for now. Just…
  • I hired a water rower - loved the water swoosh noise and feel of the machine. Found the rowing deadly boring though - tried a few ways to spice it up - but basically I needed to be on real water. I returned the rower, got my bike out of the shed with success and am still trying to get to the pool more regularly…. Rent…
  • Interesting to see all the different approaches - just a couple of additional thoughts. It is not just celery that can last longer by sitting in water, I often do the same for my lettuces too (change the water regularly!) and carrots that need reviving. And if you find buying smaller amounts tricky, try buying a weekly veg…
  • Well - the problem is not usually the oats themselves, more the mill in which they are ground … which may have been used for eg wheat. So for most people with coeliacs the answer is to buy ‘pure’ oats (Ie non contaminated) - as yes they are gluten free - - but not all….as some still react and indeed caution is required.…
  • I keep a small tub of mixed seeds and dried fruits and nuts in my work bag - for an energy boost between clients etc. I vary the seeds, change around the dried fruits and nuts to keep it fresh. Most recently I have added roasted whole nuts - I had not realised how much nicer they are roasted, nice discovery!. You can do…
  • Hey again LG ! And that sounds a good plan, I’ve had a few days of feeling poorly - so it was nice to get back to some exercise today - brisk dogwalk this morning, Pilates this evening. Food wise: Breakfast - muesli with mixed fruits of the forest, extra walnuts and yoghurt Lunch - pumpernickel bread with ham, humous,…
  • Yes - another wee session in the pool which felt good (faster - or rather less slow!, and I went a bit further)… rebuilding the habit.
  • (Not trying to derail from the OP question - which has been well answered … Just the need protein for muscle angle may no longer be thought of as up to date … Eg this is an interesting listen with a UK academic expert.. Zoe podcast of 25 May:…
  • I was on holiday for 2 weeks - and I did not also put on at least 2 pounds (fat/water whatever) as usual, and was curious not avoidant about getting back on the scales. I broadly ate at ‘luxurious maintenance’ (!), did lots of exercise, and a week later so far the average weight line has stayed static.
  • Personally I would pop in some cheese and oatcakes too… cube the cheese or buy the mini squares. A bit more protein to keep you full….
  • I do…. (Sorry for the delayed response - just put cfs/me into the search engine and came upon your post) DM me if you like?
  • Welcome ‘just another’ Jen - though I am sure you are just as special as all the rest! I am still holidaying here in Wales and not looking at MfP so much - but we did have one of the best meals of my life the other day - a 6 course taster menu at a very posh (rosettes and stars and awards) hotel to celebrate 25 years…
  • Hope the 4th celebrations were fun! Some recent highlights here include mackerel for supper, and the best sausage and bacon sandwich I’ve had in ages - we walked to the cafe, and avoided the tempting cake counter! Yesterday - toast and jam/marmalade/lemon curd for breakfast Omelette with tomatoes for lunch; apple and…
  • Today’s walk shorter than anticipated…. So probably a maintenance day…as the eating stayed at holiday level… hey ho. Breakfast: croissant, homemade gooseberry jam, toast Lunch: country pate with mushrooms, and homegrown cucumber, in a roll; bara brith ; apple Snack: more Welsh florentine, and er Um er - a Magnum icecream…
  • I’m a woman who makes a mean cottage pie - but sadly for you I make it for me and my hubby not ‘strangers’ … sorry! I use a lot of the tips above. I also A) sometimes make it with lambs mince - or shepherd’s pie B) use yoghurt for the mash rather than lots of butter C) add red lentils to ‘stretch’ the meat (as well as lots…
  • Wishing you luck!
  • Your doctor and your nutritionist seem to me to be gently suggesting you spend your energies elsewhere - other people on this site are trying to inform of the logic behind this advice. (And to answer your latest question - do abs or any other exercises at any weight or stomach size - but just go gently if you are out of…
  • Bit off track here too - eg celebrating daughter’s end of exams meant fish and chips then chocolate surprise pudding, her choice. it was however a great celebration! We are now on holiday in Wales - and today was 7.5 miles of coastal path up and down. Stunning scenery and no need to worry about today’s Welsh cakes, or…
  • Yes it’s good to see folks staying focussed - despite the difficulties. Well done! Yesterday was a good day in our house - end of exams for our daughter, and a holiday from work for me. Breakfast - poached eggs toast all round to set her up for success in the final one Lunch - celebration trip to the local cafe, Tuna and…
  • Thanks for the lentil burger recipe! Hope you feel fully better soonest LG… Food Highlights from Tuesday and Wednesday were - smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel in the cafe after walking along the river with my dog, and my first nectarine of the summer. Today: the calorie deficit streak continues: Breakfast: Toast…
  • I have solidarity to offer at least (I manage cfs/me and recognise much in your story). My advice: well listen to yourself (!), you have made a lot of progress in regaining some activity, but you know you have been (and still want) comfort eating…and you sound very much on the right track. On the exercise front - walking…
