I had a failed attempt which might amuse... First set - 50 in 58secs (ok, I blush, I am not a fast swimmer,) . Interval rest one minute Second - same. Good Third. Some 'onker' strays into my lane Fourth. I have a mini panic attack on way back? Mmmm not had one of those in the water for a long long time. Clearly not the…

Hi there Miamiseoul - just a thought - but did you talk to the doc about graded excercise (did you se my post?) and also how much walking you are allowed to do. (Usually in the UK 5000 or so so steps a day is not realy seen as 'cardio', unless you are coming from from a base of no activity at all. And is the kind of…

Mmm this looks interesting.... I'll take a peak next week when I have a bit more time. May well suit me too! Thanks.

Thanks everyone. All really wise and helpful suggestions. I have decided to put a shout out to my known swimming friends, and also at my Meeting (bit like church) where I might find some new buddies. I also talked the prob thru with hubby and kiddie, and we've incorporated into our planned new schedules me leaving for an…

Well you are doing better than me Curly - fast fish wise! I did 1 k in 37 mins earlier this week...lotsa drills..thinking on the helpful responses to my other thread. Thanks.

Welcome Quiltedarrow - nothing wrong with those goals, infact very similar to mine!! (I'm a good decade younger, though I also have health issues...) Lovely photo Gojaqs - you look happy and proud. And well done everyone else too... 20 - 30 mins of walkies, scraped 21 - 1 1/4 hours of gorgeous autumn sunny walking, with a…

Oh and if you want to track your excercise efforts with support - there is a challenge thread, and I am in the September Move one. Lots of people with health struggles (as well some big excercisers) on it, and it is has a supportive 'do what you can' approach. You set your own goals, and nobody sneers at goals like '5…

Oh my - and here's me just struggling with the CFS! I am guessing your doc told you about graded excercise? Ie you do that 5 mins a day for a week, then increase by 10% and hold that for a week or 2, then increase by 10%? (That assumes 5 mins is the base your body can do regularly without being too stressed...). That is th…

Ok I think I follow this - but would scale it down to say 8 repetitions not 16. Er, and my intervals would be very much more generous. I guess neither of these matters so much. However, Some 'I am clearly not a swim masters type person' questions: stroke rate, I am counting every arm over or just right arm. Can never…

Yes a v quick swim earlier in the week. Quick as in rushed for time (I bumped into 2 people I could not rush on my way to the pool) but also quick as in trying to go fast, for me. I did the first half of my 'Fit At Fifty' routine (tho to be honest it was a bit 'eek this feels hard' this time!). 500 m or so, over 20/25 mins…

Well done folks - it is good (and a little humbling) to see you guys doing so well, and being so determined.

Biatti - i tried directly messaging you on 'graded exercise' twice but both times it got lost... Can I suggest you either google the term or use the MFP search engine instead (you'll see posts by me there, I just checked). But it is a technique for a graded, measured and non-stress to body increase in fitness which is…

I's like to second Trudi's comment about sometimes deliberately doing 'too much' - I guess it is the CFS equivalent of having a big stuff from time to time! It helps keep you sane...enjoying life..testing your current limits. As long as most of the time you are being mindful of managing energy. Just plan to/accept you may…

8 Sept - c60 mins on the bike for a health appt. (I am guessing it was at 350 cals plus burn pace as I got really hungry!) 350 + cals: 3 out of 8 days (60 towards my 100 total target) Atleast 30 - 3 Rest /lazy - 2

(Btw I am on the September 'move' challenge on MFP - I chose this one as a) it is a nice mix of big excercisers b) people getting into excercises with 'low' goals c) you set goals that fit you d) it is supportive e) some people on it have health issues.... Been on it for the last 3 months or so.....might suit you too?)
-
Ok - you are so not alone! Quite a few of us on MFP, eg I have had CFS for 2 years.. I have had good support and advice I think - we have a CFS centre here in London, and I had a young doctor. The advice has been very much - energy managemt (Google spoon theory, and energy envelope) with a real view to avoid doing too much…

Bialetti - poor you. Does that mean 'scale back' or 'carefully get fitter' in your case? If the latter, feel free to get in touch as I have done a couple of years of 'graded excercise' after getting very poorly..,,

5 Sept - 30 mins bare minimum. But atleast not as CFS-ey as yesterday. So not managing yet to turn round my slow start to the month. Hoping to be more on top of things when my daughter back at school.... But it is good to see people are generally doing better than me - and welcome Melanie and wmismail ! 350 + cals: 1 out…

3 Sept - planned to be a 350 day, but in end we did 'zen cycling' as daughter not well. So a 30 mins tick instead hey ho. 4 Sept - my turn to feel low key. Not a good start to the month! 350 + cals: 1 out of 4 days (58 towards my 100 total target) Atleast 30 - 1 Rest /lazy - 2
