  • Having a calorie INTAKE of under 1200 calories isn't recommended, because of how the body reacts when you come out. there have been plenty of medical research into it. Anyone remember the story of a strict 600cal medically supervised diet can stop diabetes, latest study shows this not to be the case but it can be used to…
  • Dividing it into average loss and writing down what you should be at each week could be good - if your actual is below that, you'll be happy and if it goes above you have time to think and rejig to get it all back on track. My goals originally were to lose 100lb, no set date, and lose 20lb of it before I go on holiday in…

  • They probably got the figure from one of the sites like this page on about.com http://exercise.about.com/cs/nutrition/a/protein_2.htm which quotes the following calculation 1. Weight in pounds divided by 2.2 = weight in kg 2. Weight in kg x 0.8-1.8 gm/kg = protein gm. From your start weight of 277lb seems he was using…
  • I'm keeping a low fat diet and do cardio n strength. Your body needs protein to repair muscle and so it doesn't strip it from elsewhere, you need to keep levels up. You do need some fat but like me you have stores ready for use :-) My legs are powerhouses so I tend to do elliptical trainer for 30 mins on highest resistance…
  • Wow what a difference. Congratulations
  • How are you working out calories burnt by exercise? MFP tends to be over generous, so if you are going by them then you will think you need more than you do. You don't say whether you are taking protein drinks or whether you are doing mainly cardio. If you haven't reached a plateau then maybe it's not such a big worry yet?…
  • The missing component of the charts is muscle mass, which if you look at the chart figures above is 30%-20% and not effected by age or sex! I have similar type scales and according to your chart need to convert 15% fat into water. I have noticed so far that as I'm loading weight and body fat my water and muscle are going…
  • That's good suggestion. Only counting what you do extra, not everyday activities. The idea of 1200 calories is that you need around 2000 to maintain weight for normal everyday activities, so will lose on 1200. If you are logging calorific cost of everything you do then out may seem like not taking in enough calories. Also…

  • Fish is a good source of protein. I have had cooked prawns as a snack (180g pack is is 150 cal and 32g protein, which is half the calories for a similar amount of protein from a bar) Protein bars and shakes are milk protein based and have milk sugars, the shakes tend to be less calorific wise and they a absorbed quicker…
  • As the OP is also in the UK, have you tried Aldi supermarket. They often have 59p deals on fruit and veg - if you don't mind only going for those (they change weekly so you do rotate) then thats cheap. 6 kiwi for 59p - 3 kiwi for the price of a bag of crisps. Its always been the way, fat, sugar, salt are cheap. After 1…
