  • To say I'm not a morning person doesn't even cover it. I still don't get up super early by most people's reckoning, but I'm a swing shift worker and I get up much earlier than I would otherwise be inclined to do. The biggest thing for me was to establish a routine. I get up at the same time pretty much every day. My body…
  • Yep, those are definitely abs. Great job! You look amazing!
  • Well, for one, exercising is easier when you're not tired. I always get a better, longer workout in when I'm well rested. When I'm tired, I'm lucky if I show up for my workout at all. I also read an article recently about how being tired impairs the part of your brain that handles complex decision making, which in turn…
  • Smoothies. I add a 1/2 cup of it to my smoothies after my workout (1 scoop of whey powder, a little water, 1/2 c. frozen fruit, 1/2 c. greek yogurt, a little ice). I don't like yogurt just in general, but I have no problems having it in a smoothie.
  • I gave up TV for a bit. After I got divorced and got my own place I found myself eating in front of the tv alot... and then staying in front of the tv for long afterwards! Now I sit down at the table, listen to music, and sometimes read while I eat and I find that I enjoy my meal much more. I don't really miss tv and I get…
  • I think my biggest frustration is the weight gain I experienced after they started treating me. I'd never had to diet before. I still haven't lost all the weight, and I keep wanting to lower my medication to help but then I go back to being hyperthyroid. What's been the biggest frustration for you?
  • Aw, thanks!
  • I've got to agree with you. Summer Ale is AWESOME!
  • Odell's Easy Street with an orange wedge. It's a light and summery craft beer with only 138 calories per bottle.
  • I started on Monday as well. It's going great and I feel awesome! I'm having some minor aches and pains as my body is adjusting, but I'm super excited. I did Kempo today which is my favorite workout in the whole program. I spent the last 6 weeks training up to be able to do p90x and I'm so glad that I did! I don't feel…
  • If you have one close by, try shopping at a Sunflower Market or Sprouts for your produce. Their produce is always awesome, and extremely well priced, especially if you shop the sales.
  • Previously played WoW, currently addicted to Skyrim. Have been playing video games since I was 4, Feel free to add me. =)

  • Just saw an article on MSNBC that said the following: Eat within one hour of rising. Your mom was also right when she told you breakfast was the most important meal of the day. When you skip breakfast, you lose its stimulating benefits on your metabolic rate. You also become more likely to eat unbalanced meals, more…
  • I actually eat a full breakfast before I workout every morning. If I don't, by the time I'm done working out I feel sick and utterly spent That's assuming I even make it all the way through my workout... Don't worry about when you eat because it truly is calories in vs. calories out. Start with something small like other…
  • I'm starting again on Sunday! =)
  • I haven't done Insanity but I have done P90X. I got through 6 solid weeks of it last fall before life threw me a curve ball and forced me to take some time off. I am actually starting P90X again on July 1st and I look forward to finishing it this time. I took "before" pictures last time and by 30 days you could really see…
  • Have the egg whites for the protein and skip the yolks (or have one whole egg and a couple of egg whites).
  • I think the best time to workout is whenever you can consistently do it. If you can establish a routine you are much more likely to stick with it, so if after work is better for you than do it! That's so much better that saying that you have to do it before work (or whatever) and then not doing it half the time because it…
  • I LOVE my fitbit! Totall worth the money. The steps are very accurate, best as I can tell the calories are accurate... I love that you can track your sleep. And it syncs with MFP with no problems at all. Syncing was so easy and now my Fitbit and my MFP talk to each other all day (MFP tell the Fitbit calories in and Fitbit…

  • Bummer! Don't overdo it and hurt your foot more.
  • In the last 6 months I've had 3 family members die young, very unexpectedly, and none through accidents or violence (the youngest was only 18), and one friend who just had a brain aneurysm this last week. YOU CANNOT WAIT TO START TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF! Life is so short, and you want to be healthy and vital for as long as…
  • First, know that you have to get used to eating less calories. It's nothing something that happens overnight, so you may want to gradually taper down to the calorie level you are shooting for. Second, I find that making sure I have protein and carbs at every meal leaves me feeling much more satisfied. I know you are…
  • P90X starts is just about 2 weeks! What are you doing to make sure you're ready? I've been working on my nutrition and getting that cleaned up. I've also been working out 4 days per week to increase my strength and endurance, as well as just making working out a habit. Last time I got halfway through P90X and then I quit!…
  • I'm sensitive to hot temperatures owing to my thyroid condition so I really can't be out doing vigorous exercise when it's 80°+. My apartment has a fitness center, so that's always an option. Mostly I just work out in my living room. I have several different workout DVD's (if you don't have any, consider renting some from…

  • A few things I saw right away in your food diary 1. WAY too many bread-based carbs. The spaghetti and garlic bread along put you over 1000 calories. 2. WAY too many sugar-based carbs. I'd focus on cutting back your bread and sugar to start. Protein is more filling/satisfying and less calories overall. I don't know if my…
  • I LOVE my fitbit! Best money I ever spent! I've been tracking my calories in for a while but I just wasn't getting anywhere. I had no idea at all if my estimated calories burned was anywhere close to being correct. Now I have a much better sense of how I'm actually doing and I'm getting results. It's also fun and…

  • I'm a planner. I have a very low calorie goal, so if I don't plan properly I either go way over my calories or I end up hungry with no calories left before the day is done. I also work 12 hour graveyard shifts at work, so I need to know what to pack, plus being hungry is not really okay (try saying no to the Milky Way in…
  • OMG. That's awesome! But what if I can't really bust a move...? As in, "I don't dance!"
  • Nope. Yogurt is optional. I just use 6-12 ounces of cold water. You can use ice cubes to make it thicker, or freeze your fruit (and then it will last longer anyway) and then the frozen fruit will thicken it up.
