  • She's just obsessed with the scale. Try it yourself: weigh before you wee, full bladdered and after a nice meal, then first thing in the morning after you wee. You too can bounce like Tigger :) We all do. I still like to play the scale game sometimes... it can be fun!
  • Yes, all of mine so far. I can't exercise. I may be able to shortly... you'll all definitely know if it works this time :) My plan has always been to lose enough weight for my blood and joints to forgive me. Then I'll look at cardio for health / fitness and some kickboxing for fun and hypertrophy.
  • Oh yes! Gypped... I was ripped off.... that's one that had slipped past my personal thesaurus. I just hadn't put 2 and 2 together.
  • Under normal circumstance I would say you can't trust anything Nestle says.... but I shall make an exception for her :)
  • Hello, oh utterly interesting new person with something to sell!
  • Sorry, but this always makes me smile. My dad's eldest brother was born with the chord round his neck, so was left with a good set of cognitive problems. He spent most of his life working for a family friend in a garage. He was able to complete small task, like putting protective sheets on car seats and giving a car a…
  • And that is how it has been found to work in lots and lots of gold standard, large cohort, multi cohort, longitudinal studies! Congratulations on your loss :)
  • I'm trying not to be rude, but I know differently because it is my job to. I'm not saying exercise isn't useful in weight loss, it just isn't essential. It is not the main cause of weight loss, that is and has always been diet. I am not being absurd and I would invite you to do some research into the amount of exercise it…
  • Someone said Chris Evans...
  • Dual language kids tend to be slower off the mark... when they get to 6 or 7 years old they catch up and then they tend to overtake their peer group. I can't for the life of me find the piece I was reading on this, but it is a well known phenomenon, apparently. As for those public language oopses: My parents did the Brit…
  • You're probably right. But the whole area is my job .... and I tend to get caught up in the research and then to spout off about it! I have lost count of the times I have responded here as though to a student. I suspect that's why there are groups for teachers here... so we can irritate each other rather than normal…
  • Not disgreeing... honest! Just trying to qualify the apparent simplicity of it. Studies where energy consumption is measured are often lacking in mundane reality which can lead to unrealistic expectations and an overly simple understanding of the numbers. That in turn can lead to people becoming dispirited. Or big…
  • I won't add to the argument... much. But that is less than half of the story, joshdann. I know what you are thinking... my OH is an engineer and looks at me like I am mad when I try to explain how the 'human machine' differs from his mechanical knowledge :) You are not wrong, but the calorie in / calorie out equation does…
  • Yes. All of my loss is without exercise as I cannot do much at the moment. You'll find lots of argumentative threads about this but basically, odd as it sounds, for all sorts of reasons, physiological and psychological, exercise does not make you lose weight. But it does help maintain a loss. Diet for weight loss, exercise…
  • Sod the piccies! YOU ARE THINNER... you're just not then - yet :) Keep the skinny minny mindset too - it is better than your current depressed and disappointed pov. And finally....... people love beached wales. Just think about the news coverage... all those concerned, often crying people offering help, advice and hugs...…
  • 1. To be merely overweight! Should make that one, just 6lbs to go. 2. To have lost 50lbs total.... 16lbs to go Anywhere in between those two will be fine. Maybe drop a UK dress size, squeeze into a size 14!
  • Yes! Just had a late birthday weekend. Indian feast, beer, crumpets, hot chocolate, apple and blackberry crumble with real custard all featured, not logged. They don't happen often and my diet works better, is more sustainable if it doesn't wreck my quality of life. My loss may be slow but it is consistent and, as a recent…
  • If you read round the threads here you will find there are some posters who really like all the information. They like to know what is out there, they seem to like lots of rules, caveats and structure to their diet / workout, etc. Those articles are for those people. Others prefer to stick to more simple rules of weight…
  • May I, as an English personage, got to a shop and purchase a sense of humour instead? Many thanks! And I found dried up husk of a moth in a can of Lilt... they gave me a case of the stuff and were very defensive when I gave it back. I added cans to my never again list!
  • Erm.... I can think of a hundred reasons why that isn't true. Not unless the rice was badly kept/heated... and then you wouldn't need the alcohol! .... think about all of those countries that eat lots of rice and drink alcohol... like India where vodka is fast becoming the favoured drink.
  • No. Changed my mind! Post deleted!
  • You would need access to a very hi tec piece of equipment called a bod pod. In the UK they are mainly found in hospitals and Universities - and private medical centres I assume. You can book a session, it isn't very expensive in some Unis - about £45 according to Google! Cheaper than I thought!
  • I seem to be in full on teacher mode, abby. I just read my post back and I sound so very sour! Sorry! :)
  • Try an osteo too. They work differently from physios. I was fortunate and found a husband and wife physio/chiro team. They didn't have the usual protectiveness about their own way of working and I got a lot of good advice and great treatment. But I did feel that I benefitted from accessing both as sciatica is both a…
  • No, they are not. They do have some affect if you have been run down and lethargic because of undiagnosed pernicious aneamia or surgery, but that is just because once your levels are back up you can stay awake for longer and move more. If you are not ill and have normal levels then you would simply pee out whatever…
  • It is quite a bit older than the 5:2, I think it was one of the versions Mosely looked at. The Dr who wrote it included quite a lot of really interesting research, a lot of noodling on how he and other dieters had responded to 'normal' diets, and recommended some simple guidelines - one rule "eat your calories" - appealed…
  • :) Worked for me and my most whiny clients, students too :-D
  • Add a star jump without a standing rest and straight down into the squat thrust.... also known in some military PT routines as 'complete b~stards'
  • Just popping in to support JUDDDing's great postings. I've been JUDDDing for 20 months, on and off to fit in with my up/down busy and stressful lifestyle. It works for me, I could never stick to daily restrictions, I thought about food too much. With this I have relearned portion control and restraint. And having not…
