  • The more I'm on here, the more honest my log is and the more motivated I am. I'm actually glad when I get obsessed with this site because I know I'll see results!
  • I don't count any activity that got me to this weight in the first place. I count only activity that is added on to my usual schedule. This isn't about adding in as many exercise points as you can. Anything you have already been doing has already given you a benefit. I'm sure you already did housework, so you have been…
  • As others are suggesting, there is more to this problem. This could be a thing where he is too controlling. This could be that you aren't contributing fully to the shared finances. It could be that he has some sort of financial insecurity (like he grew up poor and now he obsesses about every penny, just worrying about it…
  • I like the turkey pepperoni better than regular pepperoni. They fit in my food plan well for a snack here and there. Good protein.
  • My step number goes up a lot when I commit to DEAD time: Drop Everything And Dance. I put music on a lot and try to move. Good music in a commercial? Time to dance. Kids whining? time to dance. Dancing gives you more steps than walking, and I say that's fair because I'm moving more intensely.
  • Fruit, fresh and dried! Keep some packets of peanut butter and tuna (not to eat together) so you have an option if you don't want to go out at night.
  • You can and should lift without a trainer. Use those weights...you are paying for them!
  • My husband really wanted to learn to dive and he wanted me to do it with him so I gave him lessons for Christmas two years ago. I knew I'd never be able to do it if I didn't exercise, and the whole thing really scared me. It was one way to be in control of the process. The more I exercised, the better I felt and I lost…
  • It takes me about two weeks at 1200 and exercising every day to see the scale move. I can feel changes before that, but I don't see it on the scale. You might try measurements or pictures. The time of month has an impact on when I see the scale move, too. Don't give up! It is very frustrating to feel you are doing…
  • Set some smaller goals along the way and re-evaluate as you go. At 46, I've gotten lower than I thought I would. If you keep with it, you might surprise yourself, but don't set yourself up for failure, either. They say that losing just five per cent of your body weight has a tremendous positive impact on your health. Just…
  • The 1290 goal is supposed to be net calories, so eat back what you burn at the gym. Make sure the calories you eat are nutritious. You'll see debates on here that say it doesn't matter what it is as long as it is at your limit. I think it does matter, in a lot of ways. I suggest not drinking calories in soda or juice. Make…
  • If you have access to weights, do bench presses. Otherwise, do timed planks. I set my phone on stopwatch and put it underneath me when I do planks. I try to add to the time each day. You can also do as many "girl" push ups as possible. Start by doing as many real ones as you can, and then work to exhaustion doing girl push…
  • Will someone address how to sign up for this? It will probably take me a few years to get there and home, but what a great idea!
  • I agree that this wouldn't work as is, but it is probably good advice to be aware of snacking, sweets, and seconds, and maybe that's what grandma meant. Just be thoughtful about those things.
  • I decided early on that I wasn't going to log any activity I was doing before I started trying to lose. I figure, I was doing X and I have this much weight, so it isn't really helping me much. I log only what I add on, like elliptical, running, exercise videos. Some days I walk a lot for work. I don't log that, though,…
  • ^^^^YUP For me, if I eat less processed foods overall (especially getting rid of soda) I can fulfill a craving for sweets with fruit. If I eat junk, though, fruit won't do it for me. The better you eat altogether, the better you'll be able to respond to cravings with healthy choices.
  • This is about the dumbest reply I've ever seen. The stick can't be fiber unless you eat it. Inserting it as a suppository will give you no fiber whatsoever. Now, if you eat the stick, you'll need to weigh it first, but at least you are getting fiber that way.
  • Yes, what do I need to do to start this?
  • Love this post! Yes to all geekdom. I recognized your GoT handle Stormborn (even though Dany really bugs by saying it all the time! Aren't we glad everyone doesn't have to report their birthday weather when they are introduced? Hi, I'm Laura PartlyCloudy.) I agree that geeky pursuits can make us sedentary. I try to nerd…
  • Agree, agree, agree. Keep in mind that if those are the things you are already doing, they haven't gotten you to the fitness level you want now. Don't include things you did before if you want to make changes. The calorie allowance will fool you into thinking you can eat more and that you have done more. Those are great…
  • Two pounds in a month may not sound that great, but it is really perfect. Shows like Biggest Loser have distorted our expectations for how weight loss occurs. It sounds like you are doing it all exactly right! Carry on like the boss you are!
  • I make a healthy version of rice pudding and keep it in the fridge for snacks. You could make it and keep it in small tupperware bowls to transport. It's really filling and good, and with brown rice it is a decent enough carb.
  • Sounds like you need one of those treadmill stress test things to tell why it happens. Good luck and stay safe and healthy!
  • Keep it up! After two weeks of being consistent, I get more energy. I crash pretty early, but it does get better.
  • You can do this. Remember, you are smarter and you have more discipline now than you did at 20!
  • This is great advice! Also, next time you do work out, when you are done, focus some on how good you feel right after and for the next couple of hours. It really helps me crawl out of bed if I think about how much better I'll feel when I'm done. Once I'm on the elliptical, it's all good. One trick that worked for me when I…
  • I'm in a similar boat. I'm trying it different this round. Since I don't have the motivation for eating that I had before, I'm not going to try to lose as quickly. If I slip up and have a Coke, oh well. I'll still be moving in the right direction. Would it work if you weren't so hard on yourself? Your exercise sounds…
  • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yup, stick with it. Diet drinks and flavored waters are not as good for your body or weight loss. You'll get used to it, but it takes a while.
  • I haven't been slacking in fitness, but I haven't been keeping up with MFP, and I know it makes a difference, so I'm restarting that documentation. Here's to a great 2014! I raise my water bottle to you all!
