  • Great tips! A lot of people don't cook at home because they think it's too expensive, too difficult, too time consuming. I find it takes just as long to order and go pick up take out as it does to cook a healthful, delicious meal for a fraction of the cost (e.g. last night my husband got take-out Mexican, it was $25 and…
  • I think most of us felt the same way when we first started. I personally was convinced it didn't and wouldn't work and I already know how much and what foods to eat and I've been dieting since I was 16 and I'm so busy and BLAH BLAH BLAH. Insert excuse here. Most of it is mental to prepare ourselves for what we feel is our…
  • I love this! You made me feel not so bad about my sloooooow run today. :)
  • This is awesome! Thanks for motivating me to take my run back outside. :)
  • Weight this week is 155. I'm technically down a half pound since I was at 155.5 last week. Not surprising with my binge eating on Friday and the amount of candy I had last week. Honestly I'm just happy I didn't gain. Last week I ran: Tuesday: 2.6 miles, 28 minutes Wednesday: 1.6 miles, 18 minutes Thursday: 2.7 miles, 35…
  • This. Husband and I just had a talk about delegation of household duties on Saturday, encouraged by THIS topic. We've lived together 4 years!
  • I'm super late to this party, but my parents have 2 rat terriers, which are a little smaller and a little less hyper than jack russels, but have a similar look. They are smart and easy to train. They cannot run with you though, not more than a mile. They have 2 modes, on and off: they like to play a lot and are hyper when…
  • I do the cooking and the dishes and most of the cleaning. He does the grocery shopping, vacuuming, mops floors, and does most of the laundry, unless he's in trial and then I do all of it. It's been a battle because he literally does not notice when things are messy or dirty -- he won't do the chores without being asked.…
  • You guys, I really want to skip my run tomorrow morning, but I really, REALLY want to make my Thanksgiving challenge mini-goal!!
  • OK weight for me isn't the most ideal measurement of fitness, so my Thanksgiving goal is to make these numbers: Weight 155 Waist 30 3/4 inches Body Fat 30% Move to these numbers: Weight 150 Waist 29 Body Fat 28% I'm stuck in a plateau right now so I know I need to change things up to hit my goals. It's gonna be SO HARD but…
  • Sugar free hot cocoa. Sometimes it doesn't work and then I turn to my emergency stash of Hershey's special dark miniatures in the freezer. I only take out one at a time, and you have to wait for them to warm up before eating. I may eat 10 of them, but at least it takes me all day to do it.
  • If you are into cooking, try making your own chicken soup with Shirataki (tofu) noodles or brown rice. Or none at all, you might not even miss the noodles. Make sure to add lots and lots of veggies, and I find it helps my sinuses to make it spicy with red pepper flakes. You can also make (or get someone to make for you) a…
  • Yeah girl! I'm so excited I can almost forget that I'm STARVING right now!
  • I agree with this. Do you have to share a bathroom? Or worse, a communal restroom for like half your floor? You might be a shy pooper. It happens a lot in a new or uncomfortable situation, then when you get somewhere comfortable (e.g. your parents' house with nobody home) you make like 5 trips to the restroom. The first…

  • I'm so in! I am trying to run at 5AM 3 days a week (so hard) and weight training 3 afternoons a week, and I'm doing my first 5k on Thanksgiving. I'll need this support to keep my eating on track with all that working out!
  • I totally forgot the working-Nordstrom-menswear-during-holiday diet. Long hours, 30 minute breaks (15 minutes of which is spent going back up through LP, out the employee door and around the mall to get to the regular entrance), lots of pressure to stay thin, and everyone smokes. It's essentially a coffee, cigarettes and…
  • It's under "signature" at the top of this page, under the message header.
  • Easy: Atkins. Pre-Atkins I hadn't eaten beef or port for 12 years; post Atkins I not only started eating carbs again, but had developed a taste for beef at every other meal and bacon on everything. I lost 10 lbs in 12 weeks on Atkins, and gained back 15 in 8 weeks. I still haven't been able to give up pork. Mmmmm bacon.
  • You guys. You guys!! I'm wearing a pair of jeans I bought in 2005 (when I was "thinner"). I keep having to hike them up because they're a little big now. Yay!
  • You should do it! I hope your leg cooperates. How do you feel about wearing a tutu? (Just kidding.) I ran 2.5 this morning. I usually run in the afternoon and I found it a lot harder to warm up and get to my happy running place this morning. I also wore out quicker, but it may have been because I was on a treadmill. I'm…
  • I went to Express today to try on a dress I saw online. I used to be a 12 in their dresses -- the 10 was far too big (the 6 too tight to be flattering, but it FIT!) The best part: the dress I decided to buy, I had to get in a SMALL. OMG! My avi is a pic of the dress. I still have a ways to go, but this definitely makes me…
  • If you really think on it, you might find you like all the flavors that go on/with white bread, rice, pasta, potato etc. I used to eat potatoes, pasta or rice every day, but now I use substitutes or leave out the white stuff entirely, and use the same flavors. Like mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes (with lots of…
  • You might just need to break a sugar addiction. Taking a friend with me when I left the office helped me, but then I would stop by the 7-11 on my walk to the train and get something terrible like a giant slice of cake. CAKE. In the middle of the day. I decided to do a week with no sugar, and got through it by having a lot…
  • I eat a LOT of raw veggies. I go through 6-7 red bell peppers, 4 bunches of celery, and sometimes a 2 lb bag of asparagus (blanched) a week. I can't get the taste out of my mouth (not bad, just weird), but the snacking keeps me full without a lot of calories. I also love cheddar or ranch rice cakes for a no sugar/low carb,…
  • I'm a big fan of "saving up" calories if I know I have a fancy dinner out some night of the week. I try to stay under in carbs and sugar every day though, regardless of whether it's a low or high calorie day.
  • You can do it! Weekends are always hard, but they get easier. When I started I front-loaded weekend days by working out early in the morning and eating light and clean, so I could have a couple cocktails or apps on Saturday night and chili or BBQ during Sunday football. The key for me to avoid undoing all of my work during…
  • Boxing is a BRILLIANT idea y'all! Thanks!
  • Pretty sure as in I probably should but I work 60-70 hours a week, 40 miles from my primary care physician. Also stress fractures generally won't show on an Xray and require an MRI, and my insurance won't cover MRI without an acute injury. Total bummer. So basically, Ima stay off it for 3 weeks and see if it goes away, but…
  • Costco has good stuff occasionally (but no trying on is kind of a bummer) and I'm a big fan of TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross. It's workout clothes; I don't care if it's from last season or whatever. :)
  • Check out this article: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-242-304-310-7771-0,00.html It's about runner's diets; specifically about how casual runners can gain weight because they hear about "carb loading" and eat the same way elite distance runners do; we don't need that many carbs. It has great tips on what…
