As a guy, I have similar problems--I've never been able to wear clothes off the rack. If a shirt fits my shoulders and chest, the sleeves are 6" too long and hangs damn near to my knees. Once a week is plenty, or even every couple of weeks. Your weight will fluctuate several pounds daily (or even within a single day), so checking it too often isn't useful.
