It's definitely worth it to visit a specialist -- maybe a sports-medicine physician who specializes in running. If you have a local running group, ask around for doctors who have been helpful. Avoid acupuncture / chiropracters, as well as surgeons! My experience with nearly all of these types of repetitive-stress injuries…

Absolutely -- just add your name / goal to the bottom of the spreadsheet following the instructions above!

For a true challenge: The Pikes Peak Double. This requires running the Pikes Peak Ascent on Saturday (half-marathon, 7800-foot climb to 14,000 feet) and the marathon on Sunday (run the trail both ways, climbing to the top and then running back down). You are only allowed to do this if you have completed the marathon or…

I'm doing the Leatherwood 50-miler. I do the same thing, but in this case it's easy because one of my running buddies did it last year (and he's the one who roped me into it this year). He finished in 11:13 and usually does better than me at longer distances, so that's why I'll be happy with a sub-12-hour result.
-
This looks kind of cool: http://chelanman.com/ You could do a half marathon Saturday and a sprint tri on Sunday. Otherwise I'd suggest rolling your own -- look for a Sunday half marathon on halfmarathons.net, then find a 5k or 10k to race the day before.

Join me on a 19-mile trail run one of these days and I'll show you how to burn 900 calories and not even be halfway done :)

Yeah, Sage Canady could only manage a 9:56 pace on that course, and he has run a 1:07 half (5:06 pace). So that's a pretty tough course! I will be thrilled if I complete my upcoming 50-miler in under 12 hours -- a 14:24 pace.

Made one more update of the January sheet. Let me know if you add any miles to this sheet and I'll re-up. Great job in January, everyone!
-
Posted the February sheet. Great start, everyone!

February challenge is up! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1192038-february-mfp-mileage-challenge

Time to log those January miles, everyone! I had a good month with 272 miles -- hope everyone else hit their goals!
-
Awesome! Congrats! 9 runners have hit their goals so far and several more are close -- I think some of them just haven't logged their miles here.

I've read it, and it's the book I'm using to prepare for my first Ultra in March. (By the way, it's actually called "Relentless Forward Progress") As David says, preparing for a 50K isn't that much different from a marathon, unless you are talking about a tough trail 50K -- then it might take as much as twice as long as a…

That was absolutely the case for me. I got serious about running when my kids were old enough to drive themselves to their various activities. Now they are both out of the home and the sky is the limit. Thanks!

Yay! I hit my mileage goal today -- in the snow! 5 others have also made it with two days to spare: Marikevr, Pafagel, Runningchick70, Tappae, and Wombat94. 9 more runners are within 15 percent, and I'm pretty sure some of the others may be in range but haven't logged recently. Let's finish strong!

I bought a CD off of these street accordion musicians during a trip to Europe in 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6wjA1NjXTQ

There's your inspiration, Jen! A 30-minute PR in Houston. It can be done!

If you can run for 30 minutes at 5.3 miles per hour you are basically beyond c25k. You are a runner! Yep, at this point you can just run steady miles at a comfortable pace and you will continue to improve. There may be a point where you will find it difficult to improve without doing intervals, but that is likely a few…

He has friends! It's not a selfie...

I have re-sorted the spreadsheet and updated the tally on the front page. Nice job with your mileage--you're almost there!

I think you are going to need to start tracking in some way. Running makes you hungry, there is no getting around it. Tracking will help you see which foods are contributing most of the calories to your diet. You will also start to see which foods aren't 'worth it'--the ones that don't fill you up but still have a lot of…

Just be careful where you do this. A friend of mine put her brand-new Garmin on the railing outside the YMCA and when she came outside 2 minutes later it was gone.
-
Wow! Great job finishing! That actually sounds like it could be fun in a sadistic way though.
-
Congrats on hitting your goal! Nice work.
-
Thanks! I just finished a 34.7 mile weekend, 71 for the week. I actually don't feel too bad. Two months to go! According to the Facebook page for the race the actual gain for Leatherwood will be somewhere between 11,000 and 14,000 feet (depending on whether you measure using Garmin or topo software). Yep, it's going to be…

I'm turning 47 in less than a week and I won my first ever overall victory in a 5K road race just a few months ago. 40s and 50s are prime running years!

^^^ this seems like the most likely explanation -- the fact that the OP mixes up her runs actually increases the chances of this happening. Nosy neighbors trying to figure out who the new person is. Probably harmless.
-
Leatherwood 50-miler is March 29 -- which means I need to peak out in my training by March 9. So really only about 6 weeks left.
-
I have found that strength training is often more important than stretching for these sorts of injuries. Try doing some heel walks, toe walks, and calf raises (as part of a general runner's strength routine).

I live in North Carolina so I haven't actually experienced a "too cold" day. The coldest I've run in here is 5 degrees, a couple weeks ago. With enough layers, I was fine. I didn't even have to break out the ski gear. I think I actually have enough clothing that I could run comfortably down to about minus 10. But I guess…
