  • An Americano is espresso and water. Starbucks often sweetens their drinks with simple syrup which is probably what you're seeing. There are no carbs in straight coffee.
  • Wow does that tea have sugar in it or something? That's crazy! And veggies are where you want your 20g to come from. Try tracking your net carbs (carbs-fiber-sugar alcohols) instead of overall carbs. That way you can eat enough veggies to get your nutrients and fiber!

  • Make sure you're getting the sodium, potassium, iodine, and magnesium that your body needs when transitioning to a LC diet. Also drink water every chance you get! You'll start to shed a lot of water weight and won't be able to hold on to these nutrients as easily. It'll cause headaches, nausea, fatigue and all the crappy…
  • I can't stress farmer's markets enough!! Especially in the summer while everything is growing like crazy. Buy in bulk and freeze what you can.
  • Also! Consignment shops seem to be a big thing around me so I'm assuming they are near everyone else too ;) Last season's clothes at the cheap AND the ability to sell my stuff that doesn't fit anymore!
  • Also there is not really a "no" carb diet because almost everything contains trace amounts of carbs. Even eggs have carbs. Under 30g net carbs daily is enough for a steady state of ketosis. Which mean plenty of vegetables and fiber.
  • A low carb diet isn't a "weird" way of eating and it absolutely works and is sustainable. I've been doing a ketogenic diet for months and intend to continue this as my normal way of life. Carbs and sugar aren't necessary or needed. I'm more energized and healthy now than I ever was when eating a "balanced" diet.
  • Be sure to fully educate yourself on the woe before jumping in. Net carbs are what you want to track; carbs minus fiber and sugar alcohols. I usually stay around 10-15 net carbs a day with plenty of fiber and I'm losing constantly. This woe is very attainable but you need to know the rules first.
  • NEVER run through pain!! I am just getting over a dislocated patella brought on by running and fencing. One thing I've learned is to strengthen your hip muscles! They keep you balanced when running and will stop your knees from wobbling and going off track. The last thing you want to do is let your patella pop out of it's…
  • Adding muscle will only burn stored fat faster. And it will help with the loose skin you'll develop when the weight comes off. Just be prepared for the initial weakness when your body is fat adapting. My lifts and overall endurance went way down and took a long time to come back up. But stick with it, exercise is wonderful!
  • Don't track your "full" carbs, track your net carbs (Carbs minus fiber)! There is no way to eat enough vegetables if you could all the carbs. And you'll need the fiber on this diet, trust me. Truvia has Erythritol in it that will show up as like 3 carbs a packet but it doesn't spike the blood sugar so you don't need to…
  • My endo suggested ketosis because of my PCOS. I lost 12 pounds in the first week (I also exercise 4-6x a week) and I'm steadily losing 1-3 pounds a week. Insulin resistance is no joke but you can get it under control! A LCHF diet is actually really wonderful once the cravings stop.
  • The only thing I crave anymore is an easy snack or meal! Nothing is easy in ketosis. Everything takes planning and cooking and sometimes I just wish I could throw some cereal in a bowl and call it dinner. But it gets much easier to say no to the crap the longer you stick with the plan :)
  • I've been toying with the idea myself... Where did you find yours?
  • Drop your carbs and up your fat intake. They call it a "wheat belly" for a reason.
  • I started very close to where you are; 31, 6'0, 290lb. Granted, I do have PCOS so my weight issues and ways to deal with them are probably different than most. Ease yourself in to the gym life and STICK WITH IT. If you aren't used to an active gym life then it might really suck in the beginning but hang in there :) I am at…
  • Oh, and most if not all all of my carbohydrates come from vegetables (of which I love and eat often).
  • Okay okay okay... Not that I want to get in to anything with you guys but I've been suffering from PCOS for years and decided to run an experiment. Initially I kept a very healthy, clean, organic and balanced diet while exercising daily and keeping under my daily calories. While in this state of glucosis, I lost around 10…
  • As a former pot head I'd like to inform you that you can NOT smoke pot and lose weight. Pot itself doesn't put weight on you but the crazy food recipes that come with the high sure do.
  • The biggest thing is the fact that I actually LOOK FORWARD to my 5:45am gym date every morning! My arms are showing muscle definition and my shoulders are squaring off and I take the stairs to my 4th floor office without even noticing. I still catch myself wanting terrible food and sometimes I indulge... But I am…
  • Flex all the way!!! Keeps track of everything and is a fantastic motivational tool. I've found it's more accurate than my friends who have other systems.
  • After a week with my Fitbit I realized how sedentary I really was, even after my morning workouts! I work on the fourth floor of a building in an office complex so I started going to the first floor to go to the bathroom. And since I drink a literal ton of water every day I go like once an hour! The steps really add up and…
  • I'll throw myself in to that "add me" pool as well!
