What you are trying to compare is volume and density. Not weight. 1lbs of fat and 1lbs of muscle weighs exactly the same!

There is no such thing as "toning". To get rid of flab you simply have to drop bodyfat. Your nutrition is what will take care of that. Of course training with weight will help tighten the muscle, so do that as well.

A little theory for you. Say you are on 1500 calories daily with a 500 calorie deficit. Say you burn of 500 calories from exercise. Now you have a 1000 calorie deficit! So that is why you need to eat it back. Edited a little.
