  • Cheap at home body wrap to do the day before--causes you to lose water weight only, so very temporary, but I've seen it make a significant difference. We used to do it in the military when we were cutting it close on our fitness evals: wrap everything you want to reduce in plastic wrap for the day. One guy I know lost 3…
  • Definitely! But, I'm allergic to whey and have issues with soy, so I always figured that was the reason...
  • 1) Encouragement: you can definitely do this. If it was easy, no one would be overweight. So, you're discovering it's harder than anticipated. Most of us women do. Stick to it!! It will eventually work...but if you quit, it never will. 2) Insight: stop getting on the scale. I was a daily weigher for a long time. Then I…
  • Here is a pic for anyone interested: In this loaf, I increased the egg whites to 3 oz to up the protein, and reduced the applesauce to 2 Tbsp to keep the moisture balance. I also used 1/2 cup whole grain brown rice flour and 1/2 tsp xanthan gum instead of 1/2 cup all-purpose gluten-free flour to increase the fiber content.
  • I feel you. As a college student and mom (with a 90-minute-each-way commute) I know just how stressful it can be...and just how much it changes your priorities. I know it adds to the depression to put the weight back on, but (as I am doing for the moment), you may just have to accept it for the moment. I wish I could offer…
  • Two points I would like to make. 1. There are more changes going on than just your weight. Your body is shifting to a healthier condition. Sometimes the scale will reflect that and sometimes it won't. That doesn't mean it isn't happening. 2. The scale is not always accurate. If, for instance, you stuck to your calorie…
  • Amy, that's amazing! Hooray for you!
  • I'm with gel91. You're body's already given you all the punishment you deserve. Now listen to it! :)
  • I've always done the same thing. Just chuck the rules out the window when I get upset. For me, it was the realization that I was only cheating myself when I did that that gave me the strength to start fighting it. I mean, I may be chucking the rules out the window, but physics sure isn't, or biology, and my hips and belly…
  • That's wonderful!
  • One of the handy things about MFP is you can put things into your databases. In your case, for instance, you can check other websites to find calories burned for 30DS and then add it to your exercise database on MFP. It'll remember the info for next time. :)
  • Tonsilectomies are pretty good for that too! My daughter lost 20 lbs...
  • Bones don't shrink. Not unless you have osteoporosis, and even then, the mass is coming from them internally, so their outer dimensions are the same. I would reccommend you use 9 stone as a starting goal. As you approach it, keep an eye on your health and your appearance. If you start looking skeletal, then stop losing…
  • How lucky for the rest of us that you have such an amazing cat! As a fellow depressive, I know how hard it can be to go on, but I assure you the world is better with you in it.
  • Being a total geek, I keep a spreadsheet of my daily intake for everything I monitor. The good days are highlight in yellow so they stand out
  • If you're well-endowed and wearing a chest strap, that could be the problem. I've talked to people who had that issue for that reason...it's one reason I won't get a chest strap model HRM. (I'm a GG cup)
  • Never say anything online you don't want everyone to know. If you post it, it's public. Whether or not you like that, it's the way it is. I totally think employers have a right to fire people who publicly badmouth their employers and publicly demonstrates they are not suitable for the company. I understand needing to vent,…
  • Definitely cats. While I love both, cats have "cattitude"--and it amuses me to no end. The versatility and diversity of cat personalities is endlessly entertaining to me. Currently, we have four of them, but we're between dogs.
  • That's wonderful!
  • While I totally understand your point of view, I would would feel proprietary about anything I planted there. So, yeah, if I saw you taking them and I didn't know you and hadn't said it was fine, I'd be bothered by it. Maybe you should just stop by and ask if they'd mind? I mean, most people I know who grow stuff have too…
  • I know exactly how you feel. I don't want to get these stretched to fit, because it would be like defacing them. They are special to me the way they are--the way my husband gave them to me--and I don't want to change them. I wore them around my neck for a long time, but I kept getting my hair tangled in the chain, no…
  • The recipe I adapted these from calls for 2/3 graham cracker crumbs, 2 Tbsp butter, and 2 Tbsp sugar...so I would probably use about half that just to keep carbs/calories down, substituting a light margarine and xylitol for butter and sugar. I might try to go a little lighter on the margarine, too. After all, you only need…
  • Sorry. Mine all involve spending money. It's on things I wanted anyway, and can afford, but wouldn't normally spend it on, because I'm thrifty like that :) So my reward is giving myself permission to indulge a little. Maybe get siginificant other to give you a massage? Give yourself permission to do something fun &…
  • I love that kind of victory! (Hope you found that mint!)
  • I bake a batch of oat bran muffins and have one every morning with my coffee. They're about 50 calories each, and the carbs are fairly low. Here's the recipe: 1-1/2 cup oat bran 1-1/2 cup skim milk 6 Tbsp egg whites 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp baking soda 3/4 c brown sugar substitute 1-1/2 Tbsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp sea salt Wisk all…
  • Also, if you add a little baking soda to the water, it helps prevent the eggs from sticking to the shell when you peel them. This works better than salt. And it's not the stupidest question in the world. That's when I told my ex-husband (back when he was still my boyfriend) that my sister was pregnant, and he said, "How…
  • That's amazing!
  • It takes about six months for your skin to catch up with your body after you stop losing weight. It may not catch up all the way, unfortunately. It just depends on how much damage has been done to it. Skin is like elastic; it stretches and contracts back, but the more stretched it is, and the longer it stays that way, the…
  • I make my own, using xylitol or stevia (natural, low-cal sweeteners). I developed a recipe for fat free, low carb cheesecakes, and I make popcicles (usually coffee flavored). My cheesecakes are about 40 calories each, and the coffee pops are even less.
