Blech. Diet doesn't taste right. I'd say a nice gin and tonic or vodka tonic with lime would be perfect. ETA: Oh, and if you intend to have more than one alcoholic drink, make sure to drink a full glass of water before starting the next drink. It'll help you drink more slowly and will also help keep you from getting too…

I agree. Couch to 5K made me a runner. Bridge to 10K made me a more serious runner. And now, Active.com and the personal challenge to run a half-marathon (and eventually a full marathon) have made me a happy runner. Sometimes it's the venue. I hate running on a treadmill, and don't generally stick to a program if I have to…

But if you're not eating enough to fuel your body, of course it's going to grab onto every calorie when you do eat more. If it thinks you're starving, which is possible given some of your net calorie amounts, it'll eat muscle and put on more fat. When you up your calories, yes, you'll see some gain, maybe even for the next…

You may not be eating enough (sorry if someone has already noted this). Take yesterday for example: You had 1,452 calories total, and over 420 calories burned just in exercise. That leaves you at a net calorie intake of barely over 1,000. For MOST women, that's not even enough to power your body when you're lying on the…

It sounds like the OP was in an area where dogs are permitted to be off leash. If you are a cyclist in such an area, it's your responsibility and risk to deal with dogs that might be running around everywhere. Same if you're walking your dog ON leash in an area designated for cyclists.

I get frustrated with cyclists, too. I have a friend who is a responsible cyclist, and he's embarrassed by the other cyclists he sees. In my neighborhood, we have packs training for century rides who will ride two and three abreast and not move over when cars are behind them on regular city streets. To be fair, though,…

Not yet. I'm waiting for it to come out for Android. But I want it!

I see what you mean. I just got New Rules of Lifting for Women, and in the intro, even that book talks about how you should cut back on cardio and focus on strength. I don't know that the author was promoting giving up cardio, but he did make it sound like he was poo-pooing it a bit. For me, it's all about THREE things,…

So you binged. Now what? Collect yourself. Forgive yourself. Drink a glass of water. Think about how you're feeling right now. How much you don't want to feel like that again. Give yourself something that will remind you about not wanting to feel that way the next time you feel like a binge--like a bracelet, a ring, a…

^^ This. I can't stand lunges. I even prefer burpees over lunges. Bleah.

Congratulations! In the weeks to come, you'll wonder why any of it scared you so much. Running is more about your mind than your body. I mean, yes, it's about your body, but it's your mind that will keep you from being able to do it. Don't listen to your brain when it says, "That's too hard." Just try it anyway. Your body…

Congratulations!! That rocks... I'm hoping to be able to say this in May after my first... my training is going slow, but I have about 9 weeks to go and I think I'll make it... :) Thanks for the inspiration!

I love exercising in the morning--and I'm not at all a morning person. When I can exercise in the morning (I can't in winter, because I have to be at work too early) I generally get up, eat a banana and drink some water, write for about 30 minutes (I'm a writer, and morning is a good time to kick your inner editor in the…

Training for a half marathon, so I'm currently running 13-15 miles per week, spread out over four days. By mid-May that will be more like 20-23 miles per week in the same pattern. If I'm able to get to the gym, I do strength 2-3 times per week, in between the runs, NROLFW. I've just started that, though, and my focus is on…

I have something similar to this. Clips on the inside of my shorts, so it moves like them. Hardly notice it once I start running. http://www.runjunk.com/nathan-side-kick-clip-on-pocket-5colors.aspx

You're leaning.

And you're in a blue dress.

You have green beer.

Plain Greek yogurt, sliced strawberries or frozen mixed berries, and a quarter cup of Udi's artisan granola usually does it for me pretty well.

C is for cookie!

Mine was running three miles in less than 30 minutes. I broke a 10 minute mile!

OP: Way to go! C25K is a great program if you just keep telling yourself you CAN do it. Looking ahead and freaking yourself out is the only roadblock. Just you wait until you hit that final run. If you're anything like I was, you'll feel so excited you'll want to jump up and down for joy! And now I'm running 10Ks and…

I'm not a newbie runner (I've been running for a while now and am now training for a half-marathon), but here: http://barefootrunning.com/ http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-400--13691-0,00.html Have you ever had a professional fit your shoes? That's the only way I've been able to find ones that work for me.…

One bad day does NOT mean your work is worthless. It just means one bad day. We ALL give in to our impulses every once in a while. But one bad day won't even gain you a few ounces (except maybe in water weight), and you said you didn't even go over your calorie amount! Give yourself credit for being human. You're not a…

^^ This. I usually run at noon, so I make sure I have a light snack of mostly carbs and some protein about an hour before (no more than, say, 150-200 calories total). For example, an apple with a little peanut butter or a piece of bread with a thin slice of cheese. Then when I'm done, I eat lunch within the…

When I see them, I think, "Hooray!" I know how great it feels to build up that capability, and I love seeing people taking their health into their own hands and trying to make their lives more active. And since I also run, when I pass someone overweight who is running, or when I run by someone going the other direction, I…
