  • Binging 2-3 days a week is not what I would call occasional. That's just how you eat apparently. Do you track calories on binge days? I don't know any personal information about you, or how far you are running, but "jogging at a light to moderate pace" is not a significant calorie burner. If you are, as you say, binging,…
  • Finish an Ironman. My first is scheduled for May 18th :) That's my only NY goal. I'm also doing various other tris and road races and long-distance bike rides, but it's all just training for the IM. After that I will get the M-Dot tattoo and then decide what to do with the rest of my life fitness-wise...
  • Ahh, sorry, I see that you have the shoes sorted out, that's good. Varying your running suface can help too. For races I train on the surface type I'll be running on, but for fun and for exercise, trails and treadmills are easier on the knees.
  • WoW! Take days off. Nothing to do with size at all. I run at least 20 miles a week, but I take days off and cross train :) Most runners hate a day without running :) Knee pain could be due to quads not being strong enough to support them, especially at that activity level and supporting any additional weight. I stopped…
  • << Obviously I also love cycling. Congrats!! You look awesome in your winter riding gear and have clearly made huge changes in your life :) Go hit the road!
  • Me too. Exactly. The satisfaction of preparing my own healthy, delicious food, and then having that to eat is so much better than what I had before. FYI - your lunch sounds amazing and excatly like something I would eat. Yay for carbs and fiber! Delicious, filling, and good for you!
  • Yes! Me! I did 2 MS150 rides this year, tons of training rides, and I am training for triathlons again as of 2 weeks ago. Biked about 1,600 miles so far in 2012... I am obviously also a runner and a swimmer though :) Feel free to add!
  • Black Friday - because only in America do we stand in line and fight with others to buy stuff we don't need the day after we are thankful for the stuff we already have.
  • I walk on my rest days, but I am training for an Ironman, run A LOT of miles during the week, and need to keep my muscles loose. The fact that the elliptical is causing or exascerbating joint pain is scary. If you do take a week off and don't see relief at the end, please go see a doctor. The elliptical for me is actually…
  • I just did a half on Saturday, and am training for 2 more halfs and a full, plus a half ironman and ironman in the next 6 months. Yes, I run a lot :) Feel free to add me. I'll certainly try to motivate you to run!
  • Once again you are the voice of reason and I am so happy we found each other on MFP! It's a life and a lifestyle! I can't punish myself and hate life for the next 50-60 years :) My work Thanksgiving, fake thanksgiving (friends), family thanksgiving, Christmas, and leftovers don't count! I'm eating and enjoying :) Hugs!!!…
  • WOW!!! You are my new hero! I just did my first one Saturday night in 1:58:36. You rock!
  • Run. Running burns muscle on your legs and burns a ton of fat. But really, the biggest change I noticed in my legs was when I started biking. Are you sure it's all muscle? I would get your BF % measurements done and then if too high, lose overall body fat. It's pretty difficult for women to build up enormous muscles…
  • Who has two thumbs and ran 34.5 miles last week? This girl!! BAD FOR YOU?!? LOL!!! I'm in the best shape of my life b/c I am prepping for a few half-marathons and a full. Ignore any trainer who can make general statements like that. Look at all of the 70 and 80 year olds still running marathons! Look at all of the people…
  • Ignore it and move on. Don't reduce the amount of healthy food you would eat! Eat healthy food, maybe try and move your body more than you would have, and skip weighing this week. That many calories is only half a pound anyway. It happens to everyone. It happens to me a lot.
  • I'll add you! I have a half-marathon this weekend, plus 2 more and a marathon in the next 6 months (plus 2 5ks and a 10k and lots of triathlons ;) ) Stupid questions are fine with me, especially if it helps you avoid mistakes I made :/ Swearing would never offend me.
  • I run a LOT - shin pain is common. If it's super bad, take an NSAID like Advil, and ice them. Make sure you stretch them, best way is to stand up, and place the tops of your toes flat down in front of you and lean into that leg. Foot will be curved and toes sort of pointed behind you (think of a ballet toe shoe). Stretch…
  • if you wear compression sleeves under your work pants? I am now... I definitely run faster when I am wearing my cutest running outfits!
  • Those women you see everyday are hired to be a clothes hangar. Not to look good themselves (IMHO anyway). I much prefer muscles. I am certainly lean, with a low BF %, but that is through hard work and exercise and training for races. I love my visible muscles. You have come to the right place, because LOTS of women on here…
  • Runkeeper! It is the only one that has been consistent and accurate, and I have about 4 or 5 others on my phone that I need to delete... Feel free to add me if you are looking for more running friends, I run A LOT. Half marathon next weekend and training for a full in January :)
  • Sounds to me like you jumped back ON the track before coming to us! Good for you! Cheer your friends on and know that you will do it again next year or the next. You can do this, you are an IRONMAN! FYI - signed up for my first a few weeks ago! IMTX on May 18th, 2013! I'm going to add as a friend you so you can beat me up…
  • Look at my profile pic - no one would ever EVER call me fat. I'm 5'4" and weigh 124. My daughter who is a ballerina and also a triathlete is 5'1" and weighs 101. EAT! Work on building muscle, and who cares what the scale says. You should not be trying to maintain, you should be trying to get healthy. Good luck honey.
  • I HATE that they took his titles, jerseys, and are asking for the prize money back. I LOVE that they did not award the titles to the second place finishers in each year, ESPECIALLY since half of them are now admitted dopers who have not been stripped of any of their titles. It was a witch hunt. Whether true or false, he…
  • That's excellent! I love mantras that get you up and at 'em or get you through something. My spin instructor yells stuff all the time that I constantly hear in my head on long bike rides - use both legs, spin small circles, etc. One I like for running is "left, right, repeat". I like yours, I will have to remember that…
  • Forgot to say good luck with decision and with race if you decide to do it!! Also, ice, ice, ice, ice, ice, and elevation, and NSAIDs to get the swelling to go away as quickly as possible.
  • Oh man, I feel your pain! I have a half in 9 days and I can't imagine getting injured and not being able to do it after all the training... I say wrap it well and take a serious painkiller before and after. I'm a little crazy though. Definitely sit out from running until then. Yuo will not lose anything (speed, training)…
  • Favorite - Peroni (Italian beer) because it goes so well with pizza. I also like Stella so I can say "Stellaaaaaa" ala Marlon Brando. Have to admit - Bud Select 55 - only 55 calories, not horrible. Always fits in my days calories. I'm a Texan, everyone here drinks Miller Lite. 1,000,000 teenagers can't be wrong.
  • I have a half on Nov 10th in Disneyworld - I am doing 12 miles this Saturday, but ONLY b/c I am also training for a full in 2.5 months, and it plus my half (plus one more half in December) ARE training runs for me. It sounds like you have been training and training well and are happy with your training, so a 2 week taper…
  • I have been on it for almost 6 years. I gained weight because I was sedentary and ate poorly, and that only started 3 years ago. Once I decided to get healthy, I had no problem losing weight. I also have no periods. I understand some women complain about Depo, but for me, I will be on it, and thin and healthy, until I am…
  • This is the BEST recipe. So easy, so good. I make huge batches and freeze. It's so filling because of the protein and fiber, but ridiculously low-cal. Sometimes I make it for boys who refuse to eat food that doesn't have meat in it, so I add shredded chicken, and they love it. For a completely vegetarian option, can switch…
