  • I agree totally! The last race I did, I started off SO slow (to conserve my energy and I was weary of the pain I've been feeling in my shins) that I was keeping pace with power walkers for the first mile. But I never ONCE thought I was "just jogging." OWN YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS!
  • Running my first half in July and I cannot WAIT to get my decal. I see decals on cars all the time and feel like they're friends I just haven't made yet.
  • Hi! In about three days, I'll be celebrating my two-year veganniversary. I had a few false starts, and then it stuck. I started losing weight before becoming a vegan, but healthy eating through veganism has really set me down a great path. I've lost over 90 lbs total at this point, and have become an avid runner working…
  • Heeeeey I know you! Okay, I have between 40 and 50 to lose, I think. My goal is more dress-size based than it is weight based, but the pounds are a general guidepost, too. My dream dress size is between an 8-10 to a 10-12, based on what looks good on my frame. Anyway, here to cheer you onnnn!
  • I'm totally eating enough. And someone mentioned something about nutrients: I take vitamins and I'm a vegan so I'm super aware of my dietary needs. I just fantasize about food and food and foooooood.
  • I've already lost over 65 and have about 66 to go!
  • It takes a while, but getting comfortable with being honest in your weight loss goals has a surprising effect with the people around you. You don't even have to say, "I'm trying to lose weight," but adding that you're cutting down refined sugar the next time you decline will start to plant the seed of "oh, she's health…
  • A food processor takes up some room, but is well worth it. I used mine all the time (in the midst of getting a replacement). For grating and slicing vegetables, mixing dough, and making hummus, there is NOTHING better. I need to make a pureed soup and I'm craving it so badly, and cannot live without a food processor!
  • Some days I've only eaten 900 calories and I don't feel genuinely hungry anymore, but I go ahead and eat 300-500 more calories just to make sure I make the bare minimum. There's a difference between feeling hungry and being hungry, I suppose, in some cases.
  • Unless she's extremely short, I don't think going below 1200 calories a day is a good idea, even at a sedentary activity level.
  • Have your eating habits changed since then, even when you're not logging it? Small changes can really do a lot.
  • The chocolate protein ones are 200 calories. It's a healthy amount, but it keeps you full and has protein that fruit doesn't. I budget for them, and usually only eat them in "hunger emergencies" instead of, like, once a day like I used to.
  • Odwalla Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein are, in my opinion, much more worthwhile calorie-wise. They taste better (again, in my opinion), and have 12 grams of protein. Sometimes I eat half now and half later, e.g. before and after the gym. I love them!
  • I seriously doubt that. The stomach has muscles that contract and expand, just like your bladder and other parts of your body. You can train your stomach to feel full on less food pretty easily (I'm doing it now), and I'm sure that if you're used to filling it with massive quantities, that will take some time, but your…
  • Cravings take a long time to minimize, but it's worth fighting through them, and when they're gone, they're pretty much gone, except I get emotional triggers and that's a bad habit I also work on. Okay, so what I do for cravings: Sweet food: Fruit! If you start tasting natural sugars in a correct balance, as is found in…
  • I'm 26 with about 74 lbs to go. Please add me if you're interested! Side note - vegan! Anyone else?
  • This is EXACTLY what I was going to suggest - it's fantastic!!
  • Edit: Just saw your signature, and you do, so good for you!
  • You can definitely do it. I think something that might help is making sure you have little interval goals as well so you're not constantly focused on one monolithic finish line.
  • I started on SparkPeople but got kind of, I dunno, overwhelmed with how much stuff is on there, lending itself to tedium. So far, I like MFP quite a lot.
  • As far as nutrition and weight loss, I find it easier without animal products. I'll add you, and you can see my food diary. I usually go over with protein (I used to track on SparkPeople and it was the case there as well).
  • oo ooo oo! I'm a vegan! Here I am!
  • I live in Portland as well. Welcome! I'm very, very new to this, too. Additionally, I'm a vegan, so yay veggies!
  • I had a couple months of counseling a few years back, and while my panic attacks went away, I didn't get any help with my dietary habits. I think if you want help with that, you might want to mention in counseling that you think there is a link between stress and your health, and in a specific sense. E.g., when I'm…
  • This all makes me super happy I joined. It's rough to go it alone - I have come to realize how much the support of others can help!
  • Thank you for your encouragement!
