  • Gum. Tea. I don't chew gum very often, and it's such a mindless thing to just pop a piece or two into my mouth. I drink tea constantly, and I read somewhere that if you were a big tea drinker before you joined MFP and continued drinking loads of tea, that it should just be counted as your water intake.
  • My mother weighs about the same as I do, but she's five inches shorter. I'm big enough that she can hide behind me completely. Her bone structure is *so* different from mine. I definitely take after Dad's side of the family.
  • I'm 5'9" and my goal weight is 200lbs. I'm currently at 262ish from 280lbs. When I read your title, I was a little horrified, because 140lbs seems so low to me for our height. I have to remember that not everyone who is my height is also my body composition. I am 5'9", but if I were to get down to 140lbs I would be a rack…
  • If it's any consolation, you aren't the only one. ;-)
  • UK sizes tend to run about two sizes different that US sizes. A UK 14 = US 10. You can thank Vanity Sizing for that one. ETA: Here's a handy website for clothing size conversions: http://onlineconversion.com/clothing.htm
  • Like many MFP members, I am working on losing a significant amount of weight. Since I am still fairly young (27) and childfree, I do expect that at least some of my skin will have retained enough elasticity over these years of being fat to come back to a tighter state. However, I have been fat for several years. Most of my…
  • Oh, wow. I *love* BK. Like, an unholy desire. I do allow myself to get things from BK once in a great while- I figure it's something special and I can burn it off at the gym and with careful calorie management for the day. But... delivery? I don't ever have anything delivered, so I guess I'm safe... but this is really a…
  • July 2011- I stepped on a scale for the first time in a very long time. I looked down (well, first I moved my boobs and belly out of the way) and saw a staggering number- 280lbs. After scrambling off the scale and trying very hard to not cry, I decided "Okay, chubbo. That's it. No more of this fat girl crap." A very dear…
  • 2004 Saturn VUE, V6, AWD, Chili Pepper Red! My poor trucklette has 159000mi on it.
  • Mine is a name I have used for years and years. It's the name I go by at renaissance faires and in the SCA, plus it's been an internet handle for a lot of other fora and IM. I have a lot of friends who actually refer to me as "Fiona," rather than my given name.
  • I am also in the Lessened Cramps Camp. I've been using a Diva Cup for I think three years now. My period is actually pretty awesome- it only comes around five or six times a year and it only lasts three or four days, though the first day + is usually super-heavy. In any case, when I was on HBC, my cycle was "regular," but…
  • May I recommend you look into the menstrual cups available? I use a Diva Cup and it is *wonderful.* I can do everything during my moon than I can when I'm not bleeding- including ride a horse. I will usually give myself the first day of my moon off- my back hurts and I just feel icky, so I pretty much stand in a hot shower…
  • Yikes! That's hard to deal with. I'm looking at a similar issue, myself. The guy I'm (newly) dating likes bigger girls. I'm a size 16/18, and New Guy keeps telling me "you're beautiful the way you are!" My response? "Thank you, babe, but I'm not doing this for you." Thankfully, New Guy is an athlete and he totally supports…
  • In January 2012, I slipped on an ice patch. My foot & calf went right; my knee and thigh and the rest of me went left. My kneecap was caught in the crossfire and dislocated. As if that weren't bad enough, the ridge on the back of the kneecap snapped off. I have a hypermobile joint/hyperflexible tendon & ligament condition,…
  • So I hit the gym! I mostly did cardio via elliptical, with a little machine work thrown in for good measure. I did wear a brace (I called my doctor and he definitely recommended the brace), which provided me some needed support. I meet with their in-house trainer on Thursday afternoon for a "design" meeting. This should be…
  • I was told last night when I joined that I had access to their in-house trainer for free, so I'll definitely be taking advantage of that! Hopefully he will be able to help me figure out what I need to do to lose these 62lbs and rebuild my leg. Thanks for your suggestions!
  • Yikes! Good luck and may you heal quickly!
  • I have a pool at home but not one at the gym, and thankfully I live very near the Atlantic Ocean. I am an avid, active, strong, and experienced swimmer!
  • Thanks for your suggestions, everyone! As far as the consult-your-doctor thing goes, the weight loss is at his insistence. He recommended low-impact and cardio for a long period of time to enhance my stamina and load-bearing, and then to move up to heavier-duty exercise. The Breg brace (first link) is from the doctor, and…
  • This probably isn't the rudest thing ever said to me about my weight, but it was recent and from a very dear uncle. Christmas Eve, at an aunt's house having dinner after Mass. We have a huge family, so when we do family meals we just put everything in warming trays and go for a buffet-style serving plan. I was getting…
  • Oh my goodness. You look absolutely fantastic. Thanks for posting; the inspiration is coming!
  • I went to a Great Big Sea concert over the summer. If you've ever been to a GBS show... wow. The crowd NEVER sits. There is constant dancing, singing, jumping, etc. So I counted it as four hours of "dancing, general," and turns out it burns a TON of calories.
  • Yes, the weight loss is a big part of it, but what I find from my lifestyle changes I'm making through MFP is that it's easier to make healthier decisions. I get refreshed more readily. I let the little things go more easily. I am more at peace with who I was and looking forward to discovering who I can be. The last year…
