I'm 23 (does that count as mid-20s?!) and exactly 5'3. I currently weigh 129, but started at 139 or so and hope to get down to 122. I hope to do this without shrinking up top because I'm "blessed" in that area, but we'll see how it goes. I picked 122 as a goal weight because that's what my license has said for about the…

I'm sure that's frustrating. Well give it a few more days and if it's not working, you can always try something else! That's the great thing I've noticed about making the all-over lifestyle change rather than crash dieting - if something doesn't work, you're no worse off for having tried it!

For many women, especially those who exercise regularly, 1200 is juuuuust into the dreaded starvation mode. While that is certainly plenty of calories for some very small women, it is not enough for me even at 5'3 and 129 pounds. For me (and people similar I suppose), anywhere from 1350-1400 calories is still several…

Man, I wish! My officemate has been "trying" to lose weight forever, meaning she goes to an aerobics class once in a blue moon and eats terribly. Chicken salad sandwiches w/ mayo, huge bag of doritos daily, and probably about 40 oz of diet coke a day - it's so hard to see this when I know she wants to lose weight. I try to…

I have no idea, it's like a psychological roadblock or something. It took really seeing what I was putting into my body beforehand to see that a measly 1390 daily calories is not going to make me gain weight. I really want to get into strength training because I can never get anywhere close to eating all my calories on…

hey that's my post you quoted! That's gotta some sort of MFP milestone, right? Happy losing!

Thanks everyone for all the feedback! It took about 5-7 days after upping calories for me to see results. I'm a firm believer in not recording a weight loss until it sticks for a few days, so waiting a day or two was killing me! But sure enough, it has stayed off and I even enjoyed a yummy splurge meal last night!

It never hurts to change up your exercise routine and keep your body guessing! Our bodies tend to get very comfortable with what we are doing.

Thanks, mine too!

Not stupid at all! For me, I went in to my MFP settings and changed my goal from "lose 1 lb a week" to "lose .5 lb a week." That bumped me up to 1,390 calories a day.

This whole weight loss thing is basically an experiment though, right? You could always try upping your intake by a couple hundred and dropping back if it doesn't work. Don't get frustrating, keep up the good work! And I love your Finding Nemo quote :flowerforyou:

I hit my plateau about 3 weeks in after losing 5 lbs. scale stayed stuck for 2-3 weeks and finally budged in the downward direction this morning! I let up on my cardio a bit and upped my calories from 1200 to 1390.

I bow to your math and computer genius. As the world's pickiest eater that will always leave some part of the meal on her plate, this is very useful info for me!

LOL at this whole thread. As for the dead horse *kitten* recipe, I tend to marinate mine and grill it for about a minute on each side, then serve it up with some A1 sauce. Sodium levels be damned.

I like the range idea! There are plenty of days I'm still hungry but have already reached my goal, or are still 200-300 cals under but feel totally stuffed. I just hope that it all evens out at the end of the week! I also try not to comment on people's food diaries - and especialy if they are private. The only time I'll…

Okay first of all, I never in any way was "looking down" on anyone, nor did I say people who logged chores weren't doing something valuable with their time. What I meant (and said, although I guess that's up to interpretation) is that logging everyday chores leads to a slippery slope of misjudging what you ACTUALLY…

I think your list looks pretty good, especially if you're just starting a true healthy lifestyle. It can be really hard at first when you THINK certain things are healthy (lean cuisines, peanut butter, deli meats) but find out that they aren't (for what it's worth, I'n still struggling to give up deli meats). I agree with…

^^ This, exactly. My biggest pet peeve is people who log "doing laundry" or "vacuuming" - if it didn't help you lose weight before changing to a healthy lifestyle, why would it help you now? I don't even bother logging anything that lasts less than 30 minutes or doesn't cause me to work up a sweat - those are just bonus…

okay so I will definitely be buying a heart rate monitor ASAP! what's the deal with the chest strap though - does that get uncomfortable?
-
Wow that's a pretty huge difference! We're almost the same size so I'm sure my calories are also overinflated...so THAT'S what I'm doing wrong! :grumble:

I am by no means a doctor, but I can certainly vouch for this being true for me! I lost 5 lbs my first two weeks on MFP at 1200 calories. Since then, I haven't lost ANYTHING. Not even a fraction of a pound. Even when I sneak a peek and weigh myself at night, the scale is stuck! A few days ago I upped my calorie intake to…

Literally LOL'ed at the South Park reference - friend request coming your way, I could always use a friend with a sense of humor!

thanks for the tip!

I can't even go a whole morning eating just fruit - around 11AM I'd get light-headed and everyone would start looking like talking steaks. Seems like this would send your sugar intake through the roof as well. But hey, to each their own!
-
LOL I'm unfortunately nowhere near Tallahassee - my dad is in St. Pete though! Even that's gotta be at least a 6 hour drive away

Never heard of meetup.com, I'll have to look into it! I agree that real-life motivation makes a huge difference. Most of my family is either very obese or super skinny - it's a strange group. My boyfriend can eat whatever he wants and stay thin as a pole. And then there's me, who practically goes up a size if I gain a…

I'm 5'3! goal is 120-125, I'm...umm...blessed up top and I don't want that to change TOO much!

While I've only been on MFP a month, I've dealt with weight issues, dieting, and exercise my entire life, so trust me when I say that I know it's difficult. It's even more difficult when you essentially have NO real-life supporters, which is my situation. All I was saying is that I'd like some more MFP friends who are like…

jltoffer - I always love reading your posts, it's obvious that you are very motivated!
