I'm all for "everything in moderation" and not completely giving up any one food entirely while I lose weight, but this is just so over-the-top unnecessary!

thanks, this looks awesome!

I didn't come up with the term "skinny-fat" I stole it from this article: http://www.crossfitsouthbay.com/2011/05/skinny-fat/ which has been circulated on MFP for a long time now. I wish I was creative enough to come up with that name because it's exactly how I feel!

Awesome, thank you for posting this! I searched the forums for strength training advice but it's so hard to weed through everything. Never even saw this!
-
Feel free to add me as well! I've got the early 20s-metabolism slump going on, but I'm just about at my goal weight now. Good luck on your journey!

I find myself paying a lot more attention to food in general now - good, bad, or ugly. If I see a complete stranger eating crap, no, I don't judge. How do I know what their routine is? This could be a cheat day for them, maybe they've already lost 200 lbs, who knows. However, if I see a friend/relative/coworker eating crap…

Personally, I really really love workout clothes  But who am I to judge what someone else wears? For all I know, that's all they can afford. Or maybe they've NEVER set foot in a gym before and this is their first time. I distinctly remember wearing a huge baggy t-shirt the very first time I ever went to a "real" gym…

All good ideas! I'm usually close to the limit with carbs, but today was particularly carb-y because I was stuck in class all day with baby carrots and granola bars to eat. Any other ideas for a high-protein snack? I already ate dinner so I don't exactly want to eat a steak right now!

Hi there! I took just a quick look at your diary for today and I have a few suggestions. First, 300 cals seems like a bit much for oatmeal. Have you tried switching to another brand? I eat Quaker Maple flavor - Reduced Sugar. It's pretty good, and if I want it a little sweeter I sprinkle a little splenda on it. Also, do…

Just a small dose of shameless self promoting / I don't want to write the same thing all over again, but here is a link to a forum post I wrote a few months back: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/313543-i-was-scared-to-up-my-calories-too-until?hl=I+was+scared+to+up+my+calories+too I was in a very similar situation…

For the most part, yes, I only drink water! But if I do drink something else, even if it's just coffee and splenda, I log that. Not so much for the caloric impact, but just to keep an honest account of what I'm putting into my body everyday. As for food, I log those as detailed-ly (is that a word) as I can. Butter and…

WOW, that can't be the same person! So glad we're friends on here, you are quite the inspiration. congrats! LOVE your bikini!

I got a little teary writing it  As for your questions, I think it's yes to all of them. Tracking calories is time consuming, weight loss is hard, it's just me and her at home, she works long hours, etc etc. Thanks for your kind words, and I will be sure to update in the future!

Ironically, my mom has been giving me the talk on weight my whole life! I was born with a dislocated hip (fixable with surgery), so it is imperative that I stay small to keep excess strain off the hip. And yes, throughout my teen years, I resented it very much - particularly considering that I was always on the smaller…

 Thanks everyone for your support and feedback. The subject has come up in the past, but only in a fleeting or superficial way. What I would like to do is ask her to see a nutritionist and offer to go with her to the appointment for support. Hey, we could all use time with a nutritionist, right? I think deep down…

Ooof, I'm with ya girl. Not officially diagnosed yet, but I've already been tested for celiac disease and thyroid issues, and thankfully both came back negative. Personal hunch, I think I've got good ol' IBS with a hefty dose of dairy intolerance. Like others said: see a doctor, and hang in there! I myslef really need to…

WOW. just wow. you look incredible, and this is just proof that the scale is NOT everything! the difference in your pictures is incredible!

amen to this whole thread! I do love the look on people's faces though when they ask me what my secret is, and I tell them hard work and counting calories. Really people, it's not rocket science! But not everyone's at the point where I was, you really have to get to a breaking point to change your habits. oh, and I cringe…

Same here! I always feel the need to point out a negative or "correct" the person and it's kinda embarrassing! I second the poster above who said just grin and say "thank you!"

Hi there, another Amanda here! :flowerforyou: You and I were in similar situations. I also started out on MFP eating 1200 net calories a day, plateaued, then upped it to 1390 calories a day by changing my goal to "lose .5 lbs a week." That was over a month ago, and since then, I have seen fairly steady results! As for…

Haven't read all the comments here, but in my experience, healthy living is one part education and one part will power. I think it's really up to the individual which one they need more of. However, education is SEVERELY lacking and even the most will-powered person will not gain a healthy lifestyle without education. For…

I've often considered this, because my gym is less than 1/2 a mile from my office! However I tend to get very red in the face while working out, so I've always been too nervous about it. Now I'm thinking maybe I should just bite the bullet and see how it goes! Gotta take advantage of how close it is to my office.

I'm dreading Thanksgiving personally. Not a big candy eater, but I have quite a soft spot for baked goods and comfort food. Not to mention, I *should* be at my goal weight by then, so I worry that I may get a little too lax about eating healthy between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So glad to hear that upping the cals worked for you, it worked for me too! I also scaled back my exercise a bit as I approach my goal weight - I find it's too hard to eat all of the exercise calories. I find that the pounds are still coming off even without as much exercise. Good luck to you!

Took a 30 second look at the Sensa website and here's what I found: 1. Big, bolded letters promising me "a gym body without going to the gym." Not possible. You may lose weight, but you will certainly not get ripped and toned like the people peddling this product without some sort of weight training. 2. An overly…

Great thread idea! I am inspired by all of my MFP friends, whether they have 10 lbs to lose or 100. They are all on here every day, logging the good, the bad, and the ugly, and exercising even if it means sweating through a JM video at midnight after a long day. I was going to give a shoutout to Gary (500lbs2marathon) but…

I started at a similar weight as you and am working toward a similar goal, so this is just based on my experience and knowledge gained along the way. Unfortunately, 2 pounds a week is really not realistic at all. For the first few weeks while your body readjusts, you may lose up to 1 lb per week, even with exercise. This…

Your height: 5'3 Current weight: 125.9 Goal weight: 122 Daily calorie goal: 1380 NET - I got this amount by changing my goal to "lose .5 lbs per week" which, ironically, has helped me lose more than .5 lbs per week. Do you eat exercise cals?: Depends on the day. On average, I eat half of my exercise calories back in case…

My driver's license weight is my goal weight! 122 lbs, I'm only 4 lbs away!

That guy is absolutely wrong, go for it! And for the record, I weigh 127 lbs and 30DS kicked my *kitten*. Still have yet to do it for 30 days in a row! :grumble:
