If you have a good base, you'll do just fine. 16 weeks is the perfect amount of time to build yourself up to marathon readiness. The more you enjoy your training, the more you'll enjoy race day. Good training, good racing, have lots of fun!

I've got a Reebox RX4000. It's heavy duty. I bought it used off Craig's List for $250. We've had it for about 6 years now, and I use it pretty regularly during winter. My daughters use it a lot, also. The owners before us said they used it every day. I had to change out the padding on the ramp once. It was a 2-day project,…

This was really fun. Plus, it kept me going for a few weeks when all I wanted to do was sit in a corner whining about things. Thanks again for an exciting time! To our coach! HIP HIP HOORAH!!! To our team! HIP HIP HOORAH!!!

Ran a 5K with my 8yo daughter. Her first. It was magic. She had the time of her life. Such a special time. Ran a different 5K with my 10yo daughter. Not her first, but her first without health issues. She's struggled the past 3 or so years with stomach and GI issues. Every time a race would come along that she'd want to…

I have runner's knee from time to time. I swim and bike through it. Mostly bike. Sometimes swimming can aggravate it, if my form goes to hell in a bucket. A pull buoy helps with that. Good luck. Getting over runner's knee is a real booger. KT tape helps me.

Congratulations!!! You ROCKED IT!!! My first 5K was almost 60 minutes. You're a stud!

I have 3 daughters, no sons. So maybe my answer isn't worthy. Still: My daughters are or have been into trains, dinosaurs, hockey, frogs, and dogs. They can't stand cheerleading. One's favorite color is pink, but the rest are into blue. They run 5K races (they're 10, 8, 8) and my oldest has a shirt that says, "Some girls…

I must join in with many others. Calories burned has nothing to do with how "great" my workout was. Come to think of it, your definition of "great" seems deeply entrenched in "average", or "everyday". Every workout isn't great. Few are. Most workouts are, you know, workouts. "Great" ones need a reason for that designation.…

I have 3 daughters - 10, 8, 8. The 10yo has always been a handful when she gets a burr up her butt. I despair every time I think about her teenage years. I've tried my best to build buffers against the carnage. I tell my daughters endlessly how much I love them. Through good times and bad. Even at my most angry, I tell…

My TT bike, my cross bike, my indoor bike trainer, my trail shoes, my running shoes, my swim goggles, my hand weights, and my garmin. And, come to think of it, my workout clothes. I think that's enough to keep me happy for a while.

First and foremost rule: Enjoy yourself. Have fun. Lots and lots of fun. If you find new and exciting ways to enjoy your training, you'll never worry or wonder. Half marathons are great fun. The people who race them show up ready to enjoy their race and their day. If you make sure you have fun training, you'll be sure to…

HRM's have a hard time surviving in the water. Most say things like "good for 50 meters depth" or something to that extent. What they don't tell you is, that's all about water pressure, not about actually getting wet. It doesn't take much before a HRM is ruined. And I've ruined both the watch and the strap swimming. So…
