Depending on your diet could be losing weight but from muscle and not fat. Are you on a pretty severe calorie restriction diet with lots of cardio?
-
Would opt for more nutrient dense food if I was restricting calories. Not much nutrition in any of their products...fiber for filler...processed grains/sugar for calories. Synthetic vitamins/minerals to make the label look good :)

Spinach

I actually use nut butters to increase the my fat content, after giving up processed foods I never get enough fat in my diet...

So true, worst case you retain a little water for a day.

Not sure how "healthy" I would consider bread. It is a cheap source but nearly all micronutrients are added with same chemicals that are in cheap multivitmins. Check out the nutrient breakdown here: http://www.fatguyweightloss.com/why-i-eat-sweet-potatoes-and-not-rice/

One of the reasons I do not see Primal/Paleo completely going mainstream. Not a lot of money in it for big businesses, they are not good and providing quality/local foods at a profit.

Are you remembering to add oils used for cooking, if you are add more butter/coconut oil to your veggies. If you like drinking your calories coconut milk is a good source of good omega-3 fats and easy to consume. Lastly nuts which are easy to overdo especially in the almond flour form.

I agree, I would like to think that my body is more complex than heat/energy distribution. Ultimately I think there are several factors into weight loss, insulin levels (Taubes/Eades), food reward (Stephan Guyenet), calories in/out, as well as just straight nutrient density. Most all of this comes as common sense but it is…

My goto shake, chocolate protein powder, 1/5 of a banana, and 8 ounces of coconut milk. Also good with a tablespooon (or two) of some nut butter if you need the extra calories. Really like chocolate? Add a teaspoon of cocoa powder for the chocolate richness without all the calories.

Spinach (and another other greens in my fridge), 3 eggs, some sort of pork meat (sausage/ham/bacon), and if I haven't had starch that day a potato peeled and cubed. Usually ends up being a scramble buit sometimes it turns into an omelet.

Check out the book Lights Out by T. S. Wiley. One suggestion from it is to not watch TV, use computer, cell phone an hour before you go gto sleep. Also ensure you bedroom is as dark as possible. Also can go with supplements such as a dose of Mg couple hours before bed.

Best bacon is at the meat counter...though I am cheap and normally go with best thick center cut variety I can afford

Awesome responses, I actually find myself coming to MFP discovering I really need to eat more calories since I have started a more strict paleo diet (was more healthy foods low carb with paleo dendencies before) I actually avoid the nuts/dairy because I find they can stall my weight loss like Sofithomas mentioned…

Cordain and Robb Wolf are pretty close (given Robb was a student of Cordain that makes sense) they only area I see where they differ is Robb is cool with sweet potatoes (and white potatoes in moderation) Robb is not against high fat meats/butter if grass fed, in his book he made this distinction but target audience for the…

If you find your weight loss to stall you could also look into replacing some of your fruits with veggies...less sugar and more nutrients. But like others have said if coming from natural sources I wouldn't be that concerned.
-
Why not go for coconut milk? Less sugar, high in Omega-3s and I haven't found anything really negative about it in scientific studies...all positive.

Some good concepts here, fro one you immediately know how life will be after thety reach their goal. Too many people go into a diet with the idea they can eat whatever they want after they reach their goal. If this calorie level can not sustain your lifestyle, might want to pick a different goal. This also has burn down in…

What micronutrients do you lack eating tons of meat, vegetables, and limited fruits? Seems things not included in low carb that are more lacking in nutrients. So high carb would be less nutrient dense correct?
-
Exercise has plenty of purposes, though fat loss is not one of them.
-
Probably because of the lack of "heart healthy whole grains"...if too many people adopted paleo what would the USDA and Pharma industries do?
-
Try grabbing a piece of sugar cane and consume it, sure they went after the berries when they are in season...just like I do. I personally do not consider my diet "Paleo" I eat foods that are naturally nutrient dense. Once you remove the "enhanced" nutrients added to grains/rice they are really nutrient poor (even without…

Seems to be a relation there...

I followed a high carb diet for a year and my hair thinned as well...but I think that is because I got a year older...

From your reference paleo man ate 205 grams of carbohydrates per day with an estimated 100 grams of fiber that makes 105 grams of carbs a day. For some this wouldn't be low carb but no where near the 300-400g the typical "modern" man is eating now.

Don't really exercise just do stuff like walk instead of taking a shuttle, etc. As long as I eat the right food, the diet is pretty easy as well.
-
I am down 67lbs with pretty much diet only (walk about a mile to work 5 days a week which I don't really look at as exercise) The thing you have to be careful about is picking foods that are nutrient dense, if you eat lots of starches (bread, rice, pasta, processed foods, etc) your body will not get the nutrients it needs…

Avoiding processed foods is a good start. I have no issues with salt, seems unless you have an existing medical condition doesn't really do much good or bad to average person. I put a little kosher salt on my meat and eggs but not much other than those and for that a small pinch at most.
-
Personally I feel your body getting the nutrients it needs is much more important than the number of calories you eat. When you do this your body feels full. If you just eat less nutrient dense foods your body is still "hungry" because now it is not getting the nutrients it needs and provising less calories to do it. I…

I have an N=1 experiment that proves this wrong...consistently lose 2lbs a week with a 500 calorie deficit. Simply gut flora alone has more effect on weight loss than the calories you eat. If you body is healthy you will drop weight as a side effect not the other way around.
