It's just physiology.

If you're new to lifting' you'll be able to gain steadily for around the first year without having to eat a great surplus. Use it and enjoy it. Strong lifts 5*5 is a decent starter program to work with. After that, the best way to gain will be to eat a moderate surplus of around 500 per day. I'm afraid you just have to…

Just checked back in on this thread and saw all your kind replies on my post. Glad I could be of help guys and gals :-) Jay

In my opinion, the hierarchy of needs in terms of nutrition are as follows: Calories in vs calories out - or 'are you eating less than you're expending?' If it fits your macros - or 'is your Protein/Fat/Carbs split on point?' Sweat the small stuff - or 'Vitamins and minerals = micronutrients' My advice is not to think…

I don't think this is hugely uncommon. There's a phenomena called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) which is pretty common. With DOMS, the worst of the soreness is 2 days afterward - you may feel sore at day 1 and day 3, but the worst is at day 2. How to combat it? Regular training... If you work a muscle group every 7…

Ha! Other booze will work.. The basic premise is simply to get as drunk as a skunk to purposely dehydrate after a week of excess hydration - a 40% spirit (vodka, gin, bourbon etc) and a diet drink for mixer is the cheapest way to drink calorically speaking.

Water weight is a necessary evil I'm afraid. It's a false economy really, but you can manipulate water weight quite easily should you wish. Steps as follows to lose a huge amount of water weight in just 6 days. Water - drink 12 glasses a day for 2 to 5 days. This convinces your body it doesn't need to hang onto water as…

Take a look at my diary. I regularly get about 200 within about 1600-1800 cals... It can be done.
-
Go for it Joe! You can totally do this. I'm also back up in the BIG league again, so I'm totally with you on getting back to it. Jay

Apples to oranges comparison really... I've done both. 30DS = decent beginner's DVD. It'll hurt you at first if you have little to no prior exercise experience, but your body will soon adapt. P90X = full on program with a mix of weights/cardio/flexibility. It's tough going, but rewarding. Either one - you'll need to…

Just to update y'all. I got this one and it is SWEET! http://www.amazon.co.uk/UPGRADED-FUSION5-PREMIUM-QUADCO-TABLET/dp/B008YE4XW0/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Works an absolute treat and pretty much takes anything you can throw at it. Cheers Jay

I think it's a lot like that around here. It comes in waves... Jay

In for the addz - throw them my way. Big into lifting, 4 days a week. 230 bench (for what it's worth). Cutting at the moment at 1800 cals, bulking gets up to 3 or 4 thousand! Jay

Yep, this. It may be a bit uncomfortable for you to sit directly in front of her and stare, but it will definitely be uncomfortable for her! But of course, try it the nice way first - ask (politely with a smile) if you can jump on for a couple of minutes and then she can get straight back on. Be interested in hearing the…

Right here! 1800 is an extreme cut ;)

My my, this thread blew up didn't it.... My advice from post 2 stands - compound multi joint lifts (bench, squat, lunge, OHP, chins, rows, DL) plus accessory lifts (curls, pushdowns, flyes etc) as secondary work if you feel it neccessary. Sleep 8 hours a day, eat a surplus to grow and rest 48-72 hours between working the…

So you're doing a full body workout every session and doing just 3 sets on one movement per body part right? Sure, that's valid and can work. To get the best bang for your buck, stick to compound multi-joint movements - so bench for chest which gets shoulders and tri's involved, chins and rows for back which get your bi's…

That's pretty cardio heavy, which is cool if that's what you're into. I'd suggest lifting heavy 2 or 3 days a week personally. By heavy I mean lift a weight you can only lift in a given movement 6 to 8 times - if you can physically lift it 9 times it's too light, pick up something heavier, if you can't get past 5 it's too…

In for the lolz...

I use like 4-6 sprays of fry-light at 1 calorie per spray. Out and about I just do the best I can.

Muscle up and get on with it sweetheart.

Get to love roast chicken breast bro! :) But yeah, GOMAD will get you 2400 fairly decently macro'd calories in and is pretty damn foolproof. Get that gallon in! Jay

Until I can't stand being fat any more and my belly distends outwards!

Bump for later!

Yeah, I've had this problem. My current strategy is to increase my bench weight as a main priority and hopefully training for strength will translate to mass gains. It's not quite as easy as whacking on more weight every week though, had to change it up a bit to break through a plateau and move it up to the next level. I…

Day 1 - 5lb of water. True story! Jay

Drat you MFP... I was all set to buy a Zoo Storm and now I'm back to deliberating over if I really need a camera or Bluetooth in a tablet... Reminds me of the time I got my first iPhone and thought 'do I really need the latest 4S? Naah, the 3G will be fine'
-
Oooohhh... The nook HD+ is an attractive proposition! No cameras though... It's not a dealbreaker by any stretch (I won't be out taking pictures with it), but it would be good to be able to video skype family abroad from it. No bluetooth either which is a kicker... Jay

I actually have a proper e-ink kindle which I'll never give up - love it! So no issue with reading kindle Ebooks :) J
