I use "circuit training" for vigorous exercise that I can't find in the database.

As others have said: Tighten your strap. Make sure the sensors are wet. Wash your strap in the washer. Change the batteries in your sensor and/or your watch. Also, make sure that your strap is UNDER the bottom edge of your sports bra. Sometimes, depending on the bra, it will push under your chest strap or cause your strap…

Cozumel has amazing snorkeling!

I'm actually partly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain.

I like Runkeeper. I think it's free, but I'd pay for it because it's good.

As a former nurse recruiter, I would NOT say that your family had issues. There really isn't a stigma attached to being a SAHM -- many parents choose to stay home for a while. "Issues" that result in a parent leaving a position have a very negative connotation and the recruiter is left to fill in the blanks, and may not be…

A dad started a great photo blog titled "Reasons my son is crying" www.reasonsmysoniscrying.com/ about all the irrational things his toddler cries about. Maybe someone should do this for their teen daughters, too. I'm dreading the teens, as my pre-teen daughter already acts like she is a hormonal 15-year-old.

I'm several years out, and I can drink enough water to stay hydrated while running in the heat or working out intensely at the gym. After the initial post-op healing period, I've never struggled to get fluids down. I don't see any reason you couldn't train for a marathon.

I use a more narrow, toes straight forward stance with bodyweight squats. I use a wider-than-hip-width stance with toes pointing slightly out when doing barbell back squats. I have to use a more sumo or plie-type squat (wide stance, toes out) with goblet squats to keep my balance. In my experience, they are three slightly…

I hate to be cynical, but your surgeon's office tells you that you "need" to take the shot because they can bill your insurance for it every month. They don't make money off of the sublingual form you buy at Costco and take yourself. I am going to NP school, and we have frequent MD guest lecturers. You'd be amazed at how…

I feel the same way about Sea Salt Caramel.

What were the results of your EKG? Did you get a copy or did the tech say anything? I would imagine that you'll be quickly cleared for surgery.

There is a group called VSGers that has a lot of support and information.

I was concerned about the possible implications of the malabsorption process of the bypass. I also did not want to dump (but I do dump with the sleeve, so there's that.). I was not a super-heavyweight. I was confident that I could lose 100 pounds with the sleeve. If I had been heavier and needed to lose 150+, I would have…

I have found that I can drink up until I start eating with no ill effects. I cannot drink while I'm eating or for 45 - 60 minutes after I eat. I agree with others that drinking and eating at the same time allows food to slip through your sleeve more quickly. I have also found that drinking on top of a full stomach makes me…

I heard the statement that two words are the key to happiness: "savor" and "serve." I have learned as an adult that happiness is made up of joyful moments that are most often temporary and fleeting, dispersed between the drudgery, chores and obligation. In order to truly revel in these blissful moments, we must also allow…

I should also add that I don't particularly like many of the "normal" food items as much as pre-op. Some just don't sit well in my sleeve. Pizza... meh. Bread... I really like toasted whole grain bread, but otherwise... doesn't sit well. Potatoes... meh. Pasta... I like the taste and a little is okay, but too much doesn't…

I worked my @ss off by lifting heavy and working out hard during my weight loss phase and maintained almost every bit of my lean muscle mass. I maintain now on 1800-200 calories. I eat plenty of "normal" food.

I agree that it's irritating. I'd walk up and set my stuff down and say, "Is it okay if I work in?" Although most people don't like working in with others (or maybe that's only me), they will either agree to do it or they'll pick up their stuff and move on to text at another machine.

I think you would be better off quitting smoking altogether. While e-cigs are arguably better for you over time than regular cigarettes because they don't contain "smoke," they are really only better for your lungs. They still contain nicotine, which impairs your healing and increases your tendency to develop serious…

I agree with Relentless. I started this process, way back before I was even committed to surgery, by attending water aerobics at my YMCA. Water aerobics are a great workout -- you can do as much or as little as you are able. I also agree with MangoPickle. Losing weight is probably 90-95% what you eat, especially in the…

I would like to see the scientific evidence that coffee is a powerful appetite stimulant, because I dispute that fact. Coffee stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, therefore it actually decreases appetite. That being said, I was allowed to drink coffee 3 months post-op. I do not count it towards my fluid intake.…

You know when you drop your cell phone in the toilet and people tell you to put it in a baggie filled with rice? It's probably like that... maybe... you know... toxins and stuff don't like rice... those toxins... you know...

I don't think that verbal abuse of children can be justified by a calorie deficit. I think you need to get some professional help.

One word: muffins. Don't, under any circumstances, order a muffin and think you're getting a healthy, low calorie treat. You can eat 3 cookies for the calories in a muffin. (700 + calories for the big ones.)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was a life changing process for me. If you can find a counselor who specializes in disordered eating, I would highly recommend giving it a try. What helps me is to plan my food in the mornings on MFP and stick to my plan. If I truly feel hungry and feel like I need more food, I don't allow…

My response is similar to Thaeda's response. I don't feel the need to convince everyone in the world that WLS is the best solution for weight loss. I researched and weighed the evidence and believed that it would be the best solution for me. That is all I needed. If you have not tried multiple times to lose weight with…

Even without a chemistry class, you are a genius. This is perhaps the smartest thing that will be written on MFP today.

LOL I only had to bring my mask. I love my CPAP -- can't sleep without it and feel like crap if I try. I definitely wore mine most of the evening after surgery and overnight.
