  • I'm petite and my goal is 1200 calories. I do add in 100 cal for breastfeeding, and then eat back my exercise calories. What helps me from being hungry all the time is planning to eat something every 2-3 hours, and eating enough protein/fat. I take snacks to work with me like nuts, granola bars, etc. I don't eat anything…
  • Only about 6lbs to go to get to my goal.
  • You'll probably get a fair amount of responses that say never drink it. I'll just say that I drink Diet Coke, and it has never interfered with my weight loss. It does not cause me to crave sugar or anything else. I wouldn't say that it's without risks, because not much in life is--I'd just say do your research and go with…
  • I've lost about 4 lbs in the past 30 days using MFP. That's about as good as it gets for me. :)
  • I love nuts as a snack. Yes, they have fat, but a little bit of fat can go a long way toward helping you feel satisfied and keeping you from wanting to snack on other things.
  • I eat small snacks/meals throughout the day--usually I'm eating something every 2 hours or so, but I don't necessarily stick to that. I don't do it for health reasons, but I just prefer doing it that way, and it works for me. Keeps me from being hungry all the time.
  • I love regular potatoes. I hate sweet potatoes. So for me, that solves that problem--I just eat the regular ones.
  • I like Fitness Blender--on their website you can enter the criteria of the workout you're looking for (i.e. cardio, toning, yoga, length of workout, etc), and search for exactly what you want. There are quick ones if you're pressed for time, or longer ones, and you can combine a few together if you want. I do sometimes go…
  • Three lbs in four weeks sounds about right on. Depending on how much you have to lose, 0.5 - 1lb per week is generally a pretty reasonable expectation (possibly slightly more if you have a lot to lose).
  • Yes. I enjoy group classes, but haven't been able to fit them in my schedule for years. I'd love to be able to do them again someday.
  • If it were me, I'd go with nuts, string cheese, peanut butter crackers, jerky--something with some protein/fat. I find that if I snack on fruit only, I end up hungrier than if I didn't eat it. I need some protein/fat to keep me from wanting to eat my arm.
  • I'm usually a slow-starter when it comes to losing weight. I may not lose any weight in the first few weeks. But if you're doing the right things, eventually you'll see results. Just remember that it's the trend over time (long periods of time) that really counts. And I agree with whoever mentioned taking pictures, and…
  • Totally estimating: $8500 if you include jewelry and glasses. :)
  • I never had to try to gain weight with my pregnancies. I gained quite a bit with my first, and a reasonable amount with my second. It's not uncommon, though, to not gain much in the first trimester, and then see more weight gain in the second and third trimesters. If you are going to regular prenatal visits, they will…
  • First, congrats on your baby! I have found losing weight while breastfeeding to be a delicate balance. My experiences with each of my babies has been very different. First things first, though: at a week old, I wouldn't worry at all about weight loss. I'd focus on just building that breastfeeding relationship and building…
  • This is just me, but whenever I hit a plateau, I increase my calories for a few days, and that usually gets me going again. I started actually planning days of increased calories (extra 200 or so) every so often, and it seemed to help keep me from plateauing.
  • A few times a week. I used to weigh daily. I have no problem with either way...I'm just not in the habit of weighing daily right now, so I do it when I remember. I know that, overall, it's about the trend over time, so I don't get hung up on the day-to-day fluctuations.
  • Mom of small kids here! I have a 5 year old and an almost 2 year old. It's a challenge, for sure. I lost 69lbs after having #1 (took me 2.5 years), and so far 31lbs after #2. I have about 8lbs left to go. Finding time to work out is definitely not easy for me, especially since my husband is on the road a lot. Feel free to…
  • I don't find myself super hungry very often. I have my goal set for 0.5lb per week, which for me is 1200 cal, plus I add in 100 cal for breastfeeding a toddler. Anyway, what helps keep the hunger away for me is eating small snacks/meals throughout the day, and always including fat & protein in my snacks. I find that if I'm…
  • One of my favorite snacks is a handful of nuts. If I'm struggling in the afternoon, that usually helps get me through. I try not to eat a snack that doesn't have some protein & fat, because otherwise I just end up even more hungry than I was before. For example, I wouldn't eat just an apple as a snack, but maybe an apple…
  • I don't like the texture, but plenty of people like them.
  • Yeah...that one seems a little "off" to me. It said my upper limit for healthy weight should be 105 lbs. No. I tried a different one (one on the CDC website), and it said my healthy range was 96 to 128. That's much more reasonable.
  • As others have said, since it is not required to be on food labels, it is not usually there. So many of the enteries in the food database here are not correct with regard to potassium. Really, though, unless you have lab work done and it shows a potassium deficiency, you shouldn't try to supplement. Too much potassium can…

  • I just eat the ice cream. I haven't bought ice cream lately, but I used to regularly have ice cream every night after working out...and I still lost weight. I'd buy individual serving cups, and I'd work them into my day, calorie wise.
  • Congrats on your baby! I'm a mom of two. My youngest is 21 months old, and I've got about less than 10lbs to go to get down to my goal! Good luck with your weight loss, and feel free to add me as well!
  • For me, a low fat diet. Of course, I grew up watching my mother who dieted in the 80's, and low fat was all the rage. Margarine, skim milk, plain rice cakes, etc. While I've never used margarine as an adult, I did tend to default to a low fat diet when trying to lose weight. But then I realized that I just don't like being…
  • Yes. My favorite "off the grid" meal is Mexican. We might go out for Mexican 2-3 times a month, and I don't worry about it. I've been doing it for years, and it hasn't ever interfered with my weight loss. Most of the time I do log it if I eat it, but then also I do sometimes take days off from logging, just as a mental…
  • It has been a struggle for me during some stages, and other times it's been easy. It all just depends on your routine, where your child is developmentally, naptimes (if your kid takes naps), bedtimes, etc. And all of that stuff can change over time, which is why sometimes I have a good workout routine, and sometimes I…
  • I haven't read all of the comments. :) But I do sometimes allow myself days where I don't log calories, just sort of as a mental break. And I might go over calories on those days, or not meet some of my other goals. Since I don't really restrict anything in my normal diet, other than maintaining a calorie deficit, I don't…
  • It wouldn't work for me--I like to eat often throughout the day because, well, I like to eat, AND, I tend to get shaky and lose focus if I haven't eaten in a while. But if it works for you, no harm. :)
