I agree with this. I think Atkins, south beach, or Dukan could help.

Every body is different. I know I ate well under 1000 cal for years and was quite skinny, although what I did eat was junk. Now I usually eat really healthy but am overweight. Empty cal, healthy cal, it doesn't matter on the scale, it's all just cal. Your health of course is a different matter... But some people just care…

I agree - for me. I just started reading about ayurvedic medicine and body types/doshas. The Kapha body type (me) has a strong and solid body but also a slow and sluggish metabolism. It is actually recommended to skip breakfast and have a large lunch, then small dinner. I have never done well eating breakfast and always…

This is an interesting argument. I think that most are arguing over semantics though. It is well documented that in the U.S. healthier, lower calorie, nutrition dense food is more expensive. Here is one study (by the gov't no less): http://www.csrees.usda.gov/newsroom/impact/2008/nri/03191_food_prices.html Not sure if this…

completely agree

don't do it. The hole will never close back up when you decide to get rid of it.

Aw, thanks! Yeah I am having such a hard time. If I have a good diet day, the next day I feel thinner and am so excited I feel like I'm starting to lose, but then have no milk! Well I'm going to keep at it, slow and steady. Congrats to you too!

maybe time of month? or sodium? But I hear you, this my story. A week to lose it, gain it back in a day, then another week to lose it all over.

36 and bf new mom, trying to lose baby weight without messing up my ms, if you all know what I mean :)

I think everyone is different, but I weigh myself every day, and for me it certainly does show up the next morning if I overeat the day before. Not sure about the water.

Thanks all for the suggestions!! It sounds like Pittsburg is winning over Philly...

Thanks! Do you know the names of a little more urban areas (but still out of the city) that you know are decent? I'd like to search realtor.com but don't even know where to start.

what is your height and weight? that might have something to do with it

The way I understand it is because, say one person runs 1 mile in 6min, but another runs 1 mile in 12min - the person who ran it in 6min only exherted themselves for this short amount of time, versus the person who exherted themselves for 12min, so each burns 100 cal, just one burns it faster than the other. But I…

omg yes - I have a giant plastic bin of gorgeous size 4 (?!?) clothes from, let's see, 7-8 years ago? Back when I ate a plum for lunch and 2 cups of bok choy for dinner. Right now I'd be happy to just get in a size 10.

Just a thought, but maybe consider making your diary private and only viewable to you, then be extra honest with yourself and log every little thing you eat. I have only been here 2 weeks, but I shared my diary with friends b/c I like to get ideas from other people's entries, and would like to offer the same. But to be…

I don't know how to deal with this either, I usually feel like puking after 1 mile. All that has helped me is to go real slow....

oh yes and for desserts (although I often just get tempted with my husband's treats): yogurt bananas honey berries oatmeal

for salads: spinach and romaine tomatoes onions red and yellow pepers mushrooms lunch meat cheese eggs for cooked dishes: lentils quinoa beans ground turkey onions green peppers kale frozen spinach canned diced tomatoes

You can starve yourself, lose weight, look good, and maintain this for a long time. But a day will come when you want to eat like a normal person again, then you'll find out you can't b/c you've messed up your metabolism.

Unfortunately you can not get rid of them. But they fade and turn silvery white with time. Also you can try using self tanning cream to camouflage them. I just ignore mine :)

I had a pouch for 20 years until I started running - it toned my core and flattened my stomach. Now I am overweight again from having a baby, but my stomach (thank God) is still flat from my previous few years of running.

I think you'll like this site, I just joined too. The greatest thing to me is how your food diary can calculate your sugar intake. I know I have issues with sugar. But just from a few food entries I see how deep my sugar issues are - even my choices of "healthy" foods are the sugary ones! Eg., tomatoes, red peppers,…

I am new too, so it is too soon for me to tell if it works or not. But I am unsure about the "eating your burned calories" thing. I'm going to give it a go for now, but that'll be the first thing I stop doing if I find I'm not losing.

so if this would be the case, how would you fix it? If you are eating healthy and excercising already, how else do you fix a slow metabolism?
